"Pampered punk"? And since when has Cap had brown hair?

This is just plain weird.

I absolutely love the totally incredulous tone of your post, Mario - makes me chortle every time I pop by this thread.

I do recall reading about the new secret ID thing. Wasn't aware that there was a physical component.

And I'm so glad I could amuse you, Nonoss.

That preview looks fun. I willing to bet that this new Thor is not the same Thor we all know.
He looks a tad bit meaner.

Well, he could be sporting a new 'tude, or he could just be exhibiting yer standard Millarisms. Too early to say, really.

Who exactly is Cap calling a pampered punk? The Major Mythological Figure and one of his best friends? Or Dagger, who was pampered by emotionally distant family right up until she ended up on the streets, was abused by drug dealers, and mutated against her will?

Well, they're out-o-context panels, so I'm guessing Tony the moustache is on the receiving end of this adrenal Millarism.

This is only vaguely on topic, but in FF 538, does anyone else think that one of the people in line is Clark Kent?

I hope not to off topic (maybe not . But does anyone see the resembalance of Neil Gaimans piece he wrote about Captain America in 1602 (i won't add spoilers for those who havn't read it yet ). And how this could have been the Genisis of teh civil war story line (forgiveness if this has been mentioned previously i just didnt see it ).

That would be really neat if they actually brought 1602 into continuity and somehow made it all come full circle. I had misgivings about 1602's writing and art as it was happening, but the plot itself was very intriguing.
I'm really curious if Civil War, Annihilation, and Planet Hulk are going to all tie together somehow.

Somewhere along the line I found a real through site for Marvel's Civil War. Now I cant find it for the life of me. It had a synopsis for every issue and tie in and a scorecard for who was on what side and what not. Was kind of like a wiki format but it wasnt that. Anyone know where this is? Was the most detailed site for CW Ive seen and eliminated my desire to buy titles i have no interest in getting with the whole marketing scheme aspect of this.

After typing and then deleting several posts, all I can say is this: I hated Civil War #4 with such fury that I can't really talk about it, because I immediately turn into the sort of fist-pounding Internet comics complainer that I normally despise. Battle not with shitty comics, lest ye... um... sound like someone who cares too much about shitty comics.

The big summer event of 2007 is going to be a series entitled World War Hulk, which from the title suggests Hulk comes back to Earth and peacefully negotiates with his good friends the 'kind and noble humans'. Maybe he will bring cake.

VERY MILD SPOILERS

Actually, I thought it was considerably better written and more exciting than previous issues. Cap still suffers from Millar-dialogue, but everyone else seemed to actually, you know, be in character, for the most part. With out spoiling too much, I thought the battle with ‘Thor’ was very well done. The characters most affected by what happened actually reacted almost like real characters. Hank Pym in particular. Tony Stark was even acting like a human being. And Sue Storm rocked it so hard this issue. After the “unmasking” of issue two and the set up of issue three, this issue actually had things of real importance go down. And that last page made me way happier than it had any right to.

I don’t think Civil War has quite the “Fuck yes!” feel of the Ultimates or the crazy-awesome feel of the Ultimate Fantastic Four run Millar just finished up, but I think it’s improved quite a bit this issue. Just my opinion, is all.

World War Hulk? Sounds like the perfect time to tell the Maestro story in continuity! Let Hulk rule the planet before Scarlet Witch blinks it all back to the old days.

I enjoyed Civil War 4 alot. I don't understand though why Pym couldn't have shrunk Goliath back down to coffin-size. That didn't make alot of sense, but it looked cool. And the man in the shadows watching Cap's group... My money's on Frank Castle.

If you read Iron Man this week, you got a little insight into Tony Stark's logic behind his decision to back the reigstration act, which is one of the few things that's bugged me for the length of this series.

Reed seemed kind of out of character at times.

Spoilers

On one hand he is the totally wrapped up in 'the work' and doesnt seem to be the idealist he always struck me as (I havent read FF in years though)

On the other hand he took an evening to have a nice dinner and sex with Sue. These events in the same issue just don't click with me. Add in the "I think Parker is acting strange, maybe he is one of them commies I hear so much about" line, and the fact that nobody seemed to notice that Sue protected everyone from FrankenThor and this issue, while good for the overall sotryline, seemed pretty poorly put together.

I actually like the super-obsessional Reed, and I don't think idealism and the occasional bout of extroversion and human kindness are at odds with it.

Hey, I'm a big geek but I manage to have strong values and very good social life.

Making robotic clones of your dead mate, however, well, that's a leetle dodgey if you ask me.

I don't want to sound like I'm Millar-bashing, but it seems to me like he really doesn't know how to write really smart heroes. All of his geeks are anti-social.

It's not that Millar's characterisation is always appalling so much as it's (on the whole) one note: unpleasant.

Now to my mind the FF have always been a little unpleasant, so I'm okay with his Reed, however, at base, the character is simply Millar doing what Millar does.

The new issue of Spider-Man arrived in the post today.

I recommend having a flip through in the store re: Reeds's motivation in Civil War, the dissolution of the Fantastic Four and Peter's partnership with Tony Stark.

Well worth the wait.

Did Stark make a deal with Green Goblin?
Osborn is a manipulative genius, and last month was shown to be working with Hydra agents posing as SHIELD. So what if Tony's 50 State Initiative is a plan devised by Norman Osborne? Imagine half the superheroes locked away in the Negative Zone, as the other half are tricked into helping a terrorist organization take over the US.

By the way, Spidey should have known to try to escape in his old cloth suit. He knows the Iron Spider suit is bugged.

[puts on fanboy hat] I know these are, well, comics and all, but why would a clone of Thor have Thor's Norse god-given, magically inspired powers? Wouldn't a clone of him just be a guy who looked like him who couldn't 'call down the lightning'? Would a clone of Jimi Hendrix have his guitar-playing talents/skills? Ah well. It's just comics and people can't really fly and radioactivity doesn't give you super powers. Not sure where I'm going with this. [takes off hat]

CW and FF have very different versions of Sue leaving--I prefered the FF version, personally.

When I was younger this lack of iron-clad continuity would have bugged me. But as an adult in a post-New-X-Men world, I don't really care if one version or something doesn't quite match another version of something. It's like hearing a story from two different people at work--one directly involved and the other repeating rumors. The gist is the same, even if the details aren't.

How does the FF version differ? The sheer psychological fuckedness of the CW version was what finished me on the series.

She confronts Reed and does a substantial amount of wreckless property damage. Then she leaves after having told him off. No Dear John letter. Then Ben Grimm tells him the same and leaves the team.
It was much better than the Millar version.

I also liked Iron Man eavesdropping on everyone.
