the fact that there have been Earth-2 people in our world (not stuck in the Superman II mirror) this whole time is a bit of a stretch.

In that connection, I just got around to reading VU #6, and in the end it almost seemed to be implying that the CEO-style Luthor has been an extradimensional interloper all along, while sci-fi mad scientist Luthor (the "real" Luthor in post-Crisis continuity) has merely been hiding. It'll be interesting to see how far back they push this, ie. which Luthor will prove to have been involved in various seminal DCU events.

That sounds like Clone Saga.

Simplist, I'm really unsure of that whole double Luthor business. So far, unless I'm wrong, the only mention of another Luthor was in Villains United #6 and for the life of me I couldn't figure out who is who except that the Secret Six was run by the double. I've read the mad scientist/evil businessman Earth 1/Earth 2 arguement and it sounds concrete online, but has it been in the comics? I can't remember.

Do you know of another appearance?

AFAIK the two Luthors haven't been explicitly mentioned anywhere but VU #6. But the Luthor (aka Mockingbird) that appears at the end in the purple armor, and who is identified as the "real" Luthor of present continuity, seems, at least from that limited context, to be the classic mad scientist version. The Luthor who appears on-panel throughout the first five issues, however, seems to be the CEO-style Luthor we've been reading about for most of the last two decades, yet he's the one who admits (to Pariah) to being the "second" Luthor. This would seem to indicate the first glimmerings of a massive potential retcon, in which inconsistent Luthor portrayals over the last decade are explained by the long-term presence of the double...

In the most recent Adventures Of Supeys, I recall some dialogue by whatever Luthor was in it (he was wearing the Armor) about interloperedness of some sort. So it's slowly disseminating into the rest of the DCU.

And the Pariah thing, yes, that's what he does, but we didn't see him doing it. We just saw him in Luthor's basement, so we don't really know how he got there. And then he got shot in the belly.

Did anyone ever in their wildest dreams imagine that that was how that guy was going to bite it? So bizarre.

It remains to be seen how long this alternate Luthor has been around (and just what alternate place he's from. Earth-2? Hypertime?).

I got the impression Pariah showed up very recently screaming about the end being near and was promptly captured by villains.

Didn't CEO/Prez Luthor actually morph into Mad Scientist Luthor on-panel in Superman/Batman?

Triplets
02:02 / 02.11.05
That's what has me confused.

Let's answer it this way: Is Mockingbird the Silver Age Luthor or the Modern Age President Luthor?

President Luthor is generally shown with green eyes. The Luthor on the run has green eyes. The Luthor on the run is also wearing the big green power armor that he was last seen in in Superman/Batman.

Regardless, I don't think there's any way to know for sure until the Crisis comics actually get round to it. The potential for wackiness in interpretation or coordination on DC's part is pretty high.

Near as I can figure out, the Luthor situation is like this:

Luthor-Green: The Post-Crisis version with green eyes. Was the head of LexCorp, President, etc. Eventually went a bit nuts, started injecting Kryptonite-enhanced Venom into his bloodstream, and wearing armor. As Mockingbird, created the Secret Six, and seems to have calmed down again.

Luthor-Blue: The blue-eyed Luthor from the Society, and is apparently an alternate-universe version of Luthor-Green. As he knows about Pariah and Lady Quark, he might just be the Pre-Crisis Earth-1 Luthor (who had blue eyes).

(The only other surviving Luthor unaccounted for is the one from EARTH II, but given that he's supposedly almost a perfect genetic match for the post-Crisis Luthor, I'd assume he has green eyes. Anyway, he's supposed to be a hero).

I kinda hope that Luthor-Blue IS the Pre-Crisis Luthor, just because it could lead to a scene with both Luthors in armor, duking it out.

When in Superman/Batman did this morphing occur? During the Carlos Pacheco-drawn alternate reality storyline recently?

First story arc, chapter 6. "Morphing" is being used metaphorically in this case to refer to the change from cool-as-a-cucumber Prez L in S/B #1 to babbling-about-crises-in-the-sewer-in-his-purple-and-green-threads badguy-on-the-run Luthor in S/B #6.

Which has just reminded me that sewer-armour Luthor was going on about crises - just goes to show they had the whole new crisis thing planned for a while in advance.

No, I'm pretty sure Post-Crisis Luthor has had green eyes since Man of Steel #1.

oh, I thought you meant "morphing" as in 'shape changing before our very eyes' like Terminator 2 did.

from Newsarama's WizardWorld Texas report on IC-related things:

* Animal Man will play a "key role" in Infinite Crisis. "And hopefully, he makes it out of it," DiDio said.

* Captain Carrot will appear in Teen Titans. (not really IC related but fun news nonetheless)

Captain Carrot??!!

Insanity, but at least we missed the opportunity to see CBR columinist Scott Shaw's good Captain drawn by Rob Liefeld... or would that have been genius?

Feel free to call me by my given name, Findo. No worries.

As far as new comics go, I just happen to slide by my LCS at 10 AM on the way to work and usually read at least one new book on the walk over and one or two more over breakfast.

You can bet your ass I'll be all over Inifnite Crisis #2 as I toodle through Times Square to the office. And then I'll get in the elevator, walk into my office, turn on my computer, check my email, pull up Barbelith and write:

"DUDE. This comic kicked more ass than Tobias' Hair Plugs on Arrested Development! New Lost tonite will be R0XX0RZ. I was reading The Dark Tower again on the way to work and IT STILL R0X. Have you read my latest comics? They are so rad!"

And cetera.

Hot damn, kids. If you're anything like me and have been trying to get through Crisis On Infinite Earths for like decades, all to no avail because, well, it's so difficult to get through (BORING), this ish contains a Crash Crisis Crourse that tells you everything you need to know. Along with some incremental plot point movement involving the OMACs and the Amazons and (!) The Joker, but the Super (and I mean Super) bombshell is that the Earth 2ang Clan have sat around in their dimensional pocket for a long time, have watched the DC Universe spiral into assrape and despair and have finally made a decision.

The Earth that was saved in Crisis was the wrong Earth, and they're going to bring their Earth back.

"This corrupted and darkened Earth must be forgotten as ours was...so that the right Earth can return."

I'm mostly pissed because the E2 Superman, who's being hailed as this season's Greatest American Hero, has decided in his infinite wisdom that this universe isn't worth saving and is willing to destroy it all in order to bring a "better" world.

That's not hero thinking. That's defeatist.

Granted, Our Lady of the Phoenix Consciousness did the same thing in Here Comes Tomorrow, but she's not E2 Superman, is she?

Hopefully, Wonder Woman will snap that sunuvabitch's neck too.

Yeah, he's a bit misguided. I bet he and Clark will have a phat showdown, and this old decrepid Lois (who is now deteriorating because of Earth-1's bad manners and penchant for cornholing apparently) will stop Kal-L and say "Honey, it's so not worth it. Look at all these people. Give them a chance to fix it themselves."

Intervention Crisis. Coming 2006.

Not to mention there's still OMACs and no magic and two Luthors, one of them planning to mindwipe all the heroes, all kinds of crazy shit, oh and galactic war and a gaping hole in the center of the universe.

Poor Kal-L picked the wrong day.

Oooh! Next ish blurb:

"...and Batman is offered his last chance at the life he's always wanted. But at what price?"

The cover is Bats approached by Kal-L with Old School Catwoman and Robin behind him (probably metaphorically, not actually in the Batcave with them)

Drama, baby!

Thanks Benjamin for adding spoiler space, but... etc, etc... so embarrased for asking this.
