Batman's kryptonite piss! Awesome!

Funnily enough, Batman just got kryptonite-infused and taken over by some evil entity to kill Superman in the pages of the newest ridiculously-written Jeph Loeb SUPERMAN/BATMAN book. So it's conceivable that a Kryptonite-glowing-green Batman could piss Kryptonite.

I'm just sayin'.

DiDio is now saying that IC will be a "direct sequel" to the first Crisis. And at a recent panel discussion, when asked if the IC mini would address Hypertime, DiDio responded "Wait and see." Hmmm...

Did anyone see that picture in Wizard last month that showed Batman with 2 swords, and Superman and Wonder Woman all surrounded by Doomsday monsters?

Big shit like that. That's the kind of stuff I'd like to see in Infinite Crisis.

I am hoping that it's not all explodo and decapitations. I want reality warping silver age nuttiness, hypertime hijinks and all around Morrisonian looniness. (Actually, would it not be grand of GM was writing the series instead of/with GJ. No offense to Johns, but GM is the shit).

Our society is so strange. That means "cool" now, where as it used to mean...well, excrement, really.

Yes.

Alright, Infinite Crisis has begun. Lets take a final (mostly spoiler free) look at the past year and a half of DC Comics, and make a list of the comics/storylines that actually MATTERED when discussing Infinite Crisis. I just read Superman #221, and it claimed to be a "tie-in" to Villains United AND O.M.A.C. Project.

Ok, it showed Bizarro turning down an offer from the SSoSV, and an O.M.A.C. started a fight with Superman. For half a page.

That's hardly a "Tie-In". It's not even a story. The rest of it focuses on Jimmy Olsen adoring Supes but treating Clark Kent badly. By the end he learns a valuable lesson in how much your friends really do mean to you.

It was terrible.

So, when you add to the list individual issues of supposed "Tie-Ins", please clarify why they are 'quality' "Tie-Ins".

Oh, and if you have to say "this guy died", please, spell out their name with the "#" symbol. This will prevent any spoilage for those who may not have read it, and will provide seconds of fun for those who have, and are trying to make sure that the name of the deceased is spelled correctly.

Example: Blue Beetle = #### ######.

I'll start it, and anyone and everyone feel free to add to it.

-Identity Crisis: Because it effed up the JLA's relationships.

-Countdown To Infinite Crisis: Set the whole thing up, and we learn that there is a huge conspiracy afoot...and who's behind it. And #### ###### is offed by ### ####.

-O.M.A.C. Project: Continuation of the aforementioned conspiracy...with Batman.

-Wonder Woman #219: Superhero morality questions are raised, and lines are drawn in the sand. And ### #### dies.

Villains United-A new Secret Society of Supervillains is created...I think that the main reason this series matters is because it introduces us to a myterious figure known only as "Mockingbird" who is pulling some strings in the grand conspiracy.

Alright, I'm sure that there are alot more. Or at least a few. So join in before we start discussing I.C. #1.

well, today we see the first issue. I'm hoping all the rumors of Wally West biting it are red herrings - it would be too obvious and lame for this generation's Flash to die just because the previous generation's Flash died in the first Crisis... and of course, I'm also hoping this is good, although the first few preview pages don't bode all that well...

It's continuity heavy as all get out, but Jimenez fucking rocks all over it. He does this amazing Spectre splash page that is going to fuck people up, both in the DCU and reading the book (you'll get it when you see it).

I loved this book and leaping from IC #1 to House Of M #7 in my Slush Pile made the glaring differences in quality abundantly clear, in case anyone is interested in what side I'm taking in the Blue Earth/Red Earth Crossover Election.

It is, also, a bona fide sequel to Crisis On Infinite Earths. Surprisingly, Villains United #6, also out today, has a lot more shocking revelations. Well, except for the last page of IC #1, which was a doozy.

So, yeah, a very tight book, but mostly you'll be interested in it because Phil Jimenez knocks it out of the park. Truly brilliant work on his part.

And Batman totally bitchslaps Superman. Like, "FACE."

Oh shit, I suppose I should contribute to Oddman's listup, as there were a few months where I was literally getting pretty much every DC book being put that had even an inkling to do with IC, but honestly, after reading the first ish, it's pretty clear that a whole lot of it isn't essential reading, especially since all the minis sort of hit the reset button before the big show (for example, all those OMAC crossovers? Kind of useless, since they all retreat to Broseph I in OMAC #6 and get new orders.)

Just read all the minis (and, yes, that includes Sacrifice, and Donna Troy) and the Power Gal arc of JSA: Classified. And the last few pages of JLA, I think, #119, whatever the last issue of the Johns/OC book is/was.

Just to dispell the necessity of the crossovers with some detail by example: The Nightwing/Villains United? Only because there's some vague connection to Deathstroke.

Do I regret getting all those crossovers? Not in the least. They might not be impacting the main Infinite Crisis miniseries, but if that's all you're interested in, you can easily follow along just reading those issues. The Countdown minis set the stage, but again, are not essential. The crossovers with those are even less essential, but they all do a really excellent job in pulling the entire universe into a coherent narrative. Which is a worthwhile endeavor in my humble opinion, and which is why I read most of them. A few weren't that great, but not because they were hamstrung by continuity, but rather because the creators involved weren't really my kind of soup. No one stepped on anyone's toes and, surprisingly, none of them were that obligatory. The Countdown minis set up the breadth and scope of all these threats and it only made sense that they would end up affecting other titles.

Continuity Awesomeness Award For Infinite Crisis #1: The Gotham Central Reference.

Ha ha ha ha! Sweet.

But worst cover spoilage had to have been for Villains United #6. You get to the store, take a look, and you don't have to read the issue.

OR DO YOU...?

(Actually, you do.)

It certianly did. One fascinated and excited me and made me anzious to see what happens next. The other was Infinite Crisis #1. (Although the visual storytelling was pretty sloppy in HoM #7 in parts.)

Although I was surprised to see Gotham Central refrences in IC #1, as well. I can't help but wonder if that was more than coincidental. Given the subject matter and all that.

Specifically, the son of the pre-Crisis "good" Luthor from Earth-3. He was rapidly aged to adulthood during Crisis.

Okay: Since I'vve not been suckered into participating in the countdown, let me issue some questions that may or may not bring us all up to speed.

1. Wonder Woman, Batman, and Superman are fighting an ethical battle in the ruins of ther JLA Watchtower. Superman mentions looking for J'onn. Where is J'onn?

2. Watching television, Conner Kent AKA Kid Superclone whines about Luthor. Why is Luthor considered a fugitive? The television also shows the Teen Titans fighting monsters. Who are these demonic-looking monsters?

3. Donna Troy rallies some cosmic-level heroes to fight in the Rann-Thanagar fallout. Nightwing remains to fight an enormous amount of OMACs. One OMAC targets a superhuman identified as Ratcatcher. Do OMACS target and tackle both superheroes and supervillains?

4. GL Corps are situated between Rann forces and Thanagar forces in the Polaris sector. Thanagar blames Rann for the destruction of their homeworld. Is that statement true?

5. GL Corps have also elevated "Warrior" Guy Gardener back to GL status. What happened to his secret alien heritage? He no longer has Adam Ant facepaint.

6. What iss changing the nature of the cosmos, mentioned by the Guardians? I would assume it is another wave of Anti-Monitor universe destruction. Also: why are some of the Guardians female?

7. One Gotham Central officer mentions the name Corrigan. What are the facts of the GCPD case surrounding the human past of the Spectre?

8. The Freedom Fighters, the surviving heroes of Earth X, are ambushed by Villain United. Phantom Lady dies most guesomely, and earns a place at Women in Refridgerators. I would expect that gore in Identity Crisis DCU, but shame on Phil Jimenez. Who else died in that battle? Hell, what's the hero deathcount thus far?

9. The Ray is saved from death - possibly due to his 90s makeover. Luthor is an ambiguous name, when utterded by Psycho Pirate, so no question there.

Also: Can someone elnlighten me as the the status of Power Woman/Power Girl/Supergirl of Earth-2/Karen Starr? She is losing control of newfound Kryptonian powers, and aparrently needs saving.

Who's the villain behind all this?

Anti-Morrison?

2. Luthor is a fugitive because he went batshit insane, put on a big green suit of power armor, and fought Superman in downtown Metropolis while telling everyone he's a big supervillain. It was written, badly, back in the first arc of Superman/Batman

4. I think so. I read the Adam Strange mini and the first issue of Rann/Thanagar, and I seem to remember something like that happening. It all blurs together though.

5. IIRC, he got injured fighting Parallax or one of his flunkies back in GL: Rebirth. While he was injured, his... ahem... human and alien DNA struggled for control of his body, and the human DNA won, and he got a new ring and became GL again.

7. Are they looking into the human past of the Spectre? Or were they just talking about the current GCPD detective who is also named Jim Corrigan?

Spectre/Jim Corrigan

My bad. I really have no idea. So that's two Jim Corrigans? Spectre one and GCPD one? Which one's the smartest boy on Earth?

1. Wonder Woman, Batman, and Superman are fighting an ethical battle in the ruins of ther JLA Watchtower. Superman mentions looking for J'onn. Where is J'onn?

Unknown. Last seen in JLA when the Watchtower exploded.

2. Watching television, Conner Kent AKA Kid Superclone whines about Luthor. Why is Luthor considered a fugitive?

I forget who he ended up getting exposed as murdering, but he went bugfuck in superman/batman and ended up becoming a public enemy again. This is very relevant to Superboy since he's discovered that he's a clone of both superman and Luthor.

It's also important to note that as of Villans United #6...

..

...

..

...

There's 2 lex luthors. One leading the secret society of supervillans and one opposing him and on the run.

3. Do OMACS target and tackle both superheroes and supervillains?

Yes.

5. GL Corps have also elevated "Warrior" Guy Gardener back to GL status. What happened to his secret alien heritage? He no longer has Adam Ant facepaint.

If I recall correctly, one of Hal's last actions as the Spectre was to remove those powers.

7. One Gotham Central officer mentions the name Corrigan. What are the facts of the GCPD case surrounding the human past of the Spectre?

The Corrigan from GCPD imvolves a completely different and *seemingly* unrealted Corrigan.
