(Apologies for the two posts in a row, but my laptop was running out of juice)
Spatula: sorry for those games of SF3.
Nonsense. I had great fun. I just get far more out of playing against or with people I sort-of know than I do Random Gamer X.
And really, I spawned most of those.
No problem with the Ken usage, mate. The last couple of days all I've had is people using bastarding Ken against me without appearing to know how to do anything other than his fricking specials, so it's nice to fight against somebody who can hit the punch or kick buttons without having to quarter circle forward beforehand while using him.
Nice Elena. She definitely deserves my attention, just too good.
Elena's an odd one. When I played Singho the first day I got the game, I won one match against him - I'm fairly sure it was with Elena. Everyone seems to hate her, but her moves are fairly simple. There's a 623 kick, which is just a dragon punch in disguise and nearly alway works wonders as a buffer move when you're knocked to the floor*, the two spinning kicks (421+K and 214+K, iirc) which work well in combos and can fool yr opponent into dropping their guard - I think it's the 214, but one of them's got a really odd hit pattern to it, so people tend to stop blocking after the first two hits and get smacked by the follow-up pair - and the added ability to poke like crazy and luck out with link combos as a result.
I can only think it's the fact that she's always moving around that makes her difficult to fight against - her standing animation is so much more elaborate than any of the other characters, it must make it hard to identify signposts.
Tell you who else I'm starting to enjoy - Chun Li. She's like a bloody ninja, flipping out all over the place. You can't even press back without her bouncing off one of the walls. The short fireball's easy peasy to chain into and you can really abuse her split kick. Spinning bird kick's still near useless, though, unless you can get the hang of buffering it.

you guys sound like fucking machines at it!
Can't speak for Paleface, but me? Nuh-uh. I know how to do most of this stuff in theory - because, bar parrying, it's all stuff that's been present in past Capcom fighters (EX moves come from Vampire Hunter, Super Cancelling was in SFEX+a, and so on) - but I'm finding the change in pace between the games in which I learned those techniques and SFIII to be making life very difficult. In other words, I'm not actually all that good at it in practice.
MAME isn't liking me at the mo. For one thing, my joypad lags quite badly when I try to use it for beat 'em ups, and for another I recently decided to change frontends to EmuLoader and I hate it. It's screwing up the sound on every game and takes about five minutes to boot.
If you've got Kawaks or Final Burn Alpha, though, and know how to configure them for Netplay (because I don't), I'll deffo be up for some games. I've got most of the decent CPS2 beat 'em ups on the hard drive already, gathering virtual dust.
*By the way, I'm now finding that to be the easiest way to avoid getting knocked straight back down when you rise - buffer a dragon punch if your opponent's next to you and obviously going to twat you back down. The special takes priority over whatever they're trying to do, as far as I can tell, so you either connect and punish them for cheekiness, or you miss, in which case the dragon punch makes you jump over their attack and still saves you from humiliation. |
