Cool! Nice to see that kind of attention to detail from DC. Thanks for the info.

An annoying post-Identity Crisis bit...DC just revealed in Catwoman #50 that Zatanna and the Justice League played with Selina's mind to make her become more good (retconning the beginning of Brubaker's Catwoman run, because *begin sarcasm* it wasn't a good enough idea to play on Catwoman's ambivalent hero/villain status and then have her naturally want to be a little more on the side of the angels while retaining a darker vigilante streak, oh nooooo...) I'm annoyed because Brubaker's run was fantastic, and it didn't need any explanation for why she turned more "good" - she's always been half-bad/half-good (a very simplistic way to put it, I know).

Yeah. Catwoman 50 was horrible. Picked it up cause I picked up the Zatanna JLA and Zatanna Superman, and none were very good.

I'm pretending I never read that issue. It was a cheap plot device, nothing else, and it hopefully will never be mentioned again.

Yeah, I'm doing the "pretending it doesn't exist" thing with this development also. In addition, Geoff Johns already covered the 'fallout from villains we tried to turn good through magical brainwashing' in his Flash run, which makes this new Catwoman bit seem even more unnecessary.

As far as I am concerned, that issue of Catwoman takes place in the same parallel Earth Highlander 2 and The Omen IV take place. Earth CRAP THAT NEVER HAPPENED. And I like to imagine this Earth is in a very smelly corner of the Anti-Monitor's belly.

Earth CRAP THAT NEVER HAPPENED.

Can I use this Earth for bad days at work, missteps with girls I like, and poor alcohol related decisions?

Please say yes.

Only if you don't mind you and everybody you know being involved in a MASSIVE CROSS-OVER EVENT, and only if the girls you like unite to destroy you, the bad days at work involve you building a sattelite that goes crazy and starts killing your friends and a drinking binge causes God's spirit of vengance to destroy all magic. And something with black holes.

Maybe this Crisis can also undo Leslie Thompkins becoming a vengeful, resentful murderer in the Batman books. That would be nice.

this, from Newsaram's IC #3 silly run-down, made me laugh (even though I like Kyle Rayner):

>> As for the reception of a new Blue Beetle from fans? Hey, Kyle Rayner was the last legacy character at DC to get his powers by accident in an alley, and that turned out okay, didn’t it?

>> Oh …yeah, that’s right.

Regardless of the contents, the original cover for Catwoman #50 was amazing, its too bad they ganked it before it hit shelves. I may make a poster out of it.

I actually like the development, but that may be because I've never read Catwoman (its on my list). To me, she's really been nothing more than a guess star in whatever book I'm reading, and I've never found her "hero with an attitude" schtick very convincing or all that enjoyable.

I think this could make for a pretty good story, with Catwoman ultimately deciding to take the same route as all of you, just pretending it never happened. I think Bruce would be the one this ultimately affects the most. How can he be involved with her knowing she may only care for him because of Zatanna? If nothing else it serves has a yet another "reason they can never truly be together", and we can always use more of those... right?

I'm enormously sad about what's happened to Catwoman since Brubaker's run, and this just caps it. Rrrgh...

Lel's right- this is really more about Batman than it is about Catwoman. Whereas Selina can probably think: 'okay, my mind was diddled with but I'm happier now than I would have been as a villain', Batman's sticking point has always been free will, it's central to his philosophy, hence the 'we don't kill' policy- because even the Joker could turn himself around (there was a story where the Joker, thinking Batman was dead, suddenly became sane).

I had a funny semiconscious theory about Alex' plans; way I see it there's three different 'anti(matter)' universes available yeah? Qwardian, Earth-1 from the Earth-2 OGN and Earth-3.

Given he's using the Anti-Monitor as a tuning fork, and he's from Qward (stop me if I'm wrong) could he be trying to usher in one of, or rather a composite of, these 'dark' universes as dominant paradigm in order to 'go home' like ET, or am I just talking out my ass?

Aertho
01:27 / 05.01.06
Ass talk.

Pre-Crisis Earth 3, where Alex is from, is as matter as the rest. It was his specific superpower to be made of matter/anti-matter. I think.

Anyone else? Or do I still misunderstand?

The Falcon
03:07 / 05.01.06
Er, a bit maybe. Matter was in brackets because I wasn't sure what Earth-3's status was; 'bad' universes if you prefer.

Aertho
03:25 / 05.01.06
Bad schmad. This is Watchmen. Again. Ozymanius Luthor, more like. Post-Crisis Earth is a mess, and seems to me that Alex Luthor is merely finishing the job Monitor left for him. Fixing the planet at all costs.

Mario
09:29 / 05.01.06
And, these days, Qward & the CSA Earth reside in the same dimension. The former is an analogue of Oa, not Earth.

Tom Coates
09:42 / 05.01.06
Are we sure it's a missile? It looks like one of the enormous tuning forks from the original crisis to me - the ones that stabilised the earths and stopped them occupying the same space and exploding. (I know too much about this shit)

FinderWolf
13:35 / 05.01.06
Mario said up above (as Chad pointed out also above): "That's not a missile. It's a dimensional stabilizer, from Crisis." I can't verify what a dimensional stabilizer does at the moment, other than, uh, stabilize the crossover of dimensions...?

FinderWolf
14:14 / 05.01.06
Actually, Tom defined it right there. Carry on. So it seems it's definitely not remotely a missile, even though many of us thought it was at first glance. Maybe it'll serve as a focal point and delivery mechanism for the massive mindwiping energies Luthor is getting together...?

20:42 / 06.01.06
Do we actually have any evidence that the function of the, er, missile-like construct/dimensional stabilizer does have anything to do with mindwiping? Sure, that's what Alex told the villians to get them on board with his plan, but it seems to me he's running multiple scams on the various players. I suspect his real agenda remains unrevealed at this point.

Aertho
20:48 / 06.01.06
"Mindwiping" is what the villains are scared of, and the only reason they'd join together, right? Of course Luthor's scheme would be to "mindwipe everyone -especially the heroes!"

I think he's going to rewrite the DCU. Who doesn't?

Mr Tricks

My bet is that Earth 2 continuity kicks in, but in a modern day context rather than the WWII era.

Simplist
23:40 / 06.01.06
To put it another way, why would a "dimensional stabilizer" drawing on the energies of natives of miscellaneous alternate Earths be necessary for mere (albeit large-scale) mindwiping? I'm thinking AL plans to recreate at least a portion of the Multiverse for reasons as yet unrevealed. One thing I'm curious about is what he promised Superboy-Prime in exchange for his cooperation -- S-P wouldn't necessarily be all that excited about the return of Earth-2, would he? Maybe he believes his Earth is coming back as well?

Mario
00:42 / 07.01.06
I doubt mindwiping is Alex's plan. Based on some details, I think he may not be trying to bring back not the multiverse, but replace Earth-1 with Earth-3 as the primary template.

Note that there are three slots left, but FOUR Earths unaccounted for: Earth-2 (Kal-L or Kara) Earth-4 (Nightshade) Earth-Prime (SBP)...and Earth-3.

Re: Earth-3; That's what I said. I just find it hard to think they'll completely dinghy JLA Earth-2, the only ogn DC's put out in the last seven years.

Wouldn't it be a kick if Alex Luthor is defeated by the "Earth 2" Luthor? In a way, that's his father....

Just a heads up, they got Nightshade in the DoV Special that came out this week.

That was a good read. They're really just decimating (ha!!) the status quo now. Bust this:

SPOILERS, COME ON!

- Captain Marvel is now caretaker for the new Rock of Eternity and thus can never leave.
- Nabu is dead, killed by the Spectre, all in a ploy to get the attention of Spectre's boss, which it does, and then Spectre is sucked into a new Mystery Host (get your copies of Gotham Central to read more! I'm guessing!)
- All that remains of Dr. Fate is the Helmet, no Nabu powers, but it's still deemed powerful by Nabs in his dying words, so Shadowpact chucks it into the sky, hoping that fate lands it in the lap of someone worthwhile. New Dr. Fate series, coming at some point whenever.

Also, in this week's Teen Titans:

SPOILERS! Where once there was a yacht, now there is not!

- Kid Eternity is back and he nonchalantly explains how and why dead people have been coming back so rampantly. At first Robin blames Eternity because he's been chained to the door betwixt the living and the dead and has disrupted it (somehow?) but Kid says "Nah, Broseph. It's been well fucked since Superman came back from the dead." (His words, not mine.) Now, wasn't that after Jay Todd died? So, we'll have to see how all this shakes out, but it looks like DC is actually going to try giving an explanation for how and why people are coming back to life. Good luck with all that.

Spec: Kid Eternity is a lock for the new Teen Titans.

And then there was this week's Superman. Another installment in Verheiden's non-ending stream of excerable dialogue and hack-ass situations. Superman is cornered by a bunch of fire-based villains who are setting outer LA ablaze. They've now Crossed The Line into killing because of what WW did to Lord. Okay. Whatever. But Superman explains that it was a mistake and, INSTANTLY, one of the Vills CHANGES HER MIND and turns on the other villains because Superman has explained it SO WELL. Fucking clown shoes. I can't wait for this ass-run of Superman of to be OVER. Every so called IC tie in has been a completely contained, completely irrelavent (Blackrock? Fuck you, I watch Lost too, dipshit) total dog.

Aquaman was quite good though. I don't know where this Kirk guy came from but he's like a Charest who can keep a schedule. Way to get me to care about Artie before you replace him with A That Guy From Smallville Analogue.

And JSA was also fantastic. A nice little character study of Stargirl with good art by the Villains United guy.

I think I'll do this every week! Bob LaBlaw Lobs Law Bomb!

I seem to remember that Nabu/the Doctors Fate died after Zero Hour, so they'll be back in no time. And how could Captain Marvel star in another ill-advised attempt to relaunch a series (which they're bound to try again one of these years) if he's stuck in some other place? He'll be sprung in no time.

Please do do that every week, Ben, as I spend the money I'd likely otherwise spend on midtier comics on smokes instead.

Also, I like your posts lots. Expert use of the phrase 'fucking clown shoes'.

I thought the dispatching of the current Dr Fate and Lyta (Fury) was a little unnecessary. Sure Lyta's history is almost as fucked as Donna Troy's, but that's no reason to banish her. As for poor Hector Hall, his been dispatched 3 times now. First as Silver Scarab, then as a version of Sandman, now a DoV causalty. *sigh* The poor couple had only just got back together too. I actually think Hector made a good Dr Fate, I really liked the mini they did. He was also one of the few heroes to sport facial hair too, a rarity in the cleanshaven world of superheroics.

Bah! I guess its time for yet another edgy teenager to be given superpowers in an alleyway...

Mario
20:39 / 08.01.06
That's the new Blue Beetle. *sigh*

I don't think Hector ever really got a fair shot at the role. He spent most of his tenure looking for Lyta, arguing with Nabu, or fighting Mordu. He never really found his footing.

As for Aquaman... he won't be a Smallville type, he'll be a Prince Valiant type.
