You forgot about Catwoman's surprising new cast member. Dare I suggest it's a baby?

The cover to the march issue of Outsiders shows Dick Grayson as Nightwing, so I'm guessing they're just fucking with us fanboys with all of that "who's gonna be wearing the costume"... Also, Batman and Detective Comics' covers seem to have swept the "Dick becomes Batman" under the rug. IMHO, it would have been a kickass idea.

Well, there's also apparently a new Nightwing in Supergirl, too so that could be how they're dicking around with people there.

And that solves the Supergirl vs. Supergirl and the Legion thing, eh?

Aertho
21:56 / 12.12.05
How, exactly?

I know there's like four or five Supergirls running around right now, but I can't keep them straight.

This was the only one that caught me off guard. This might be better asked in the DCU surgery thread, but did the original Nightwing & Flamebird still exist in post-Crisis continuity? Was Supes/"Nightwing" still the inspiration for Dick Grayson's adult codename?

Re: Nightwing, they never seem to have his continuity sorted out between Outsiders, the Batman books and his monthly series. I mean, in the last JLA he was in Bludhaven fighting Brutale as Nightwing, when for the last year or so (our time) he's been on the run all over the country with Tarantula, a mob enforcer, and now Deathstroke's bitch as 'Renegade'. I know the timeline of various books are all over the place, but it gets a bit funny when one character switches sides between books, and it ruins Dick's character arc. I still like him as Batman's replacement btw.

Yes and yes. They did a few stories where they (re-)established this...Chuck Dixon did a few stories when he wrote the monthly NIGHTWING title about how Dick went to Supes and said "Hmm, gosh, I need inspiration" and Supes told him a little bedtime story about two Kryptonian heroes of legend...one of them named...DA DUMMM.... Nightwing.

What, you mean like the last time they did that?

FinderWolf
14:49 / 13.12.05
The last time they did that, it lasted 3 issues (through each Bat-book of the month).

And I hope Grant Morrison is still going to write Detective...

The new Robin costume looks kinda cool (similar to the most recent Bruce Timm Batman animated design), although his bat-scalloped cape gives him a Battle of the Planets/G-Force look.

Supergirl & Power Girl...Nightwing and Flamebird? Bizarre...just bizarre.

And Byrne's Demon series still exists "One Year Later"? I thought it was due for cancellation, following on the heels of his crappy Doom Patrol.

It's not looking good so far, as the first two "one year later" Detective issues are part of some sort of Bat-crossover. Still, GM could take over once IC-proper wraps up...

McDaniel looks like a better visual fit for Green Arrow than I'd thought he would be.

I am always indecisive about Scott McDaniel. On the one hand, I think his writing has a very early 90's immature vibe. Plus, he can draw Nightwing looking like he is five years old. But he draws a damn pretty action scene, very fluid. I liked his work on Richard Dragon.

SPOILERS!!

There is

a theory out there...

That the Red Hood aka Jason Todd somehow come back to life...will be the new Nightwing (not the one that hangs out with Flamebird, apparently there will be two Nightwings now in the DCU). This is why he looks exactly like Dick Grayson in the upcoming preview covers - because as we all know, Jason Todd looked pretty much exactly like Dick Grayson.

I thought something along those lines too. It'd make sense considering the current Nightwing's predicament but then, Batman is pretty hardline on the whole 'we don't kill' policy, and I can't see Dick handing over the 'brand' to a mass murdering drug dealer. The last Batman issue pretty much established that Batman and Red Hood can't get along: when confronted by some meta-villains they have to team up to survive, everything's going swimmingly until Red Hood takes a tazer to Captain Nazi's eyes (who wouldn't though?). Bats then realises that he has to 'take (Red Hood) down'.

Considering that the latest numbers for Blood of the Demon are in the same level of the last issue of the already canceled Dull Patrol, either DC is publishing it due to contract obligation or they have mad hopes the One Year Later thing might trick a few readers into buying it.

FinderWolf
13:53 / 14.12.05
I think it may be that they've slated The Demon series for cancellation but it was scheduled to have a few issues left before it dies and so they figured why not incorporate it into One Year Later. I could've sworn Rich Johnston reported both DC's Byrne titles (Doom Patrol and Demon) were both scheduled for cancellation.

Also, as for the Red Hood-as-Nightwing thing, maybe he is bad but still takes over as Nightwing, steals the suit from Dick or something like that. That would explain the blood-spattered Nightwing glove on the cover of the One Year Later Nightwing cover...

Wonder Woman's cancelled as of issue 226, relaunch/revamp pending. The rumor is that Diana will die or be depowered in IC and be replaced by Donna Troy in the new title, but this seems unlikely to me for various reasons...

For god's sake, if there was one villian I figured it would be okay to rough up a bit, I would have figured it would have been Captain freakin' Nazi.

Yes. Dick becoming Batman would neatly make up for him being dead, although it's concievable that he may be a less-than-effective crime-fighter in his deceased state.

I dunno. You could throw him at the criminals and scare the shit out of them.

Nope, you're the first. I didn't know Jason/Red Hood even had a trademark weapon.

Also, Robin is framed for murder post-IC...maybe Red Hood Jason tries to mess with both Dick and Tim, framing Tim for murder and dressing up as Dick to sully Nightwing's rep as well...?

In Infinite Crisis #3, Geoff Johns takes the DC Universe and absolutely flattens it.

Okay, I'll get specific since no one asked.

The Amazons? Gone.
Blue-Eyed Luthor? Alex Luthor.
Atlantis? Fish Food Crumblies.
The Anti-Monitor? A giant mind-wiping missile with Breach, Black Adam, J'onn, and others strapped to his enormous girth.
The Watchtower Unabomber? Superboy-L.
Kal-L? A patsy.
Batman? The world's last fucking hope.

Rock the fuck on.

Yeah, I lucked out, living on the Island. I just took the LIRR in no sweat. I'd hate to be living in the Burroughs right now.

But hey, it's not like Bulleteer #2 or ACME Novelty Library #16 also...came...out.

Ouch.

Okay, so we got Lady Quark from Earth-6, Black Adam from Earth-S, Ray from Earth-X, Martian Manhunter from Earth-1, Anti-Monitor's casing from Earth-Qward, Power Girl from Earth-2, I'm expecting a double cross from Alex Luthor, wherein he jumps on to rep for Earth-3 and straps Superboy in for Earth-Prime... where's Breach from? I thought he was new?

Who's the rep from Earth 4?
