Before this Tail-aways episode, I thought "The Others" was actually 2 different groups. One was the dirty, silently-walk-through-the forest and kidnap-people-to-eat-or-convert, and the other group was Ethan/Boat Kidnappers. However, after the tail-aways episode, and after seeing how similiar Ethan was to the "Other" who tricked Anna Lucia's group, I'm starting to think otherwise.

The reason I had that theory in the first place is we know Walt and Claire's baby are special (powers?). There seems to be a difference between the people who want to kidnap the kids with powers, and the people who are just kidnapping whoever.

Someone passed me this info. Not sure what site it's from, but it's all stuff having to do with the Hanso site (which I think can be considered an official source of info).Location of island revealed? Also fits with theory mentioned above.

Go to the Hanso site's Active Projects page:
http://www.thehansofoundation.org/activeproject.html

Click the Life Extension project, and you get this:
http://www.thehansofoundation.org/lep.html

If you move the mouse over the last paragraph of the letter (this talks of an 'incident') - there is another link hidden....click it to get here:
http://www.thehansofoundation.org/khr.html

Then you have a load of jumbled stuff on the page - but you can enter characters into a field - enter 'Copenhagen' (don't forget the capital 'C') - this should get you to a new 'classified' document that talks about the 'incident' in question.

There is yet another hidden link on the Hanso website. By clicking the picture of Alvar Hanso, you get a small snippet of computer conversation like in last nights episode, then another classified document, which is a response to the one in the post above. And on a related note, wasn't Zanzibar where the plane full of heroin supposedly came from?

no clue what this all means though...

how would it give away the location of the island? there certainly could be another Hanso facility in Zanzibar...

Whilst I think the linked to speculation is interesting, I'm far from convinced. All that talk about magnetism starts promisingly, but gets a little out of hand, and seems just a tad too nerdy. Also, that business about the "collective consciousness" and its origins is a bit of a leap. We simply don't have enough information to make a sensible judgement call about the controlling forces behind the island, IMO.

Copenhagen, Synchronicities, electromagnetism....hmm someone`s been reading David Bohm. (hence the Dharma project)

How about the Dharma people created an area of spacetime where human conciousness interacts more strongly with the wavefunction of the universe. ( a copenhagenist view of "wholeness and the implicate order")

The others separate out the people who will create a "good reallity" from those who are going to create monsters, disasters, planes full of drugs etc...
Basically creatures from the I.D.

This isn`t Gilligans island it`s forbidden planet.

As for last week's episode, it really didn't do much for me. The producers have tried in vain since the show began to give us all sorts of hints about Kate's explosive and mysterious past. But now that we've seen what she actually did, it wasn't explosive, shocking, or even interesting. It was like a redneck soap opera: "I done blew up Pa so you could get the insurance money, Ma." And the ramifications of her backstory were just befuddling: so Kate sees remnants of her stepfather (aka her birth father) in Sawyer? The black horse represents her father, or her guilt over murdering him, or was it the animal that caused the car wreck which allowed her to get away from the ever-annoying cop, who despite his death early in Season 1 keeps showing up in flashbacks? Regardless, the horse on the island took this show into Twin Peaks realms, and that's not meant as a compliment.

The stuff going on around the island in "real time" blew away Kate's backstory. This season so far has been the reverse of last season. Last year, the backstories were sometimes the best part of the episode: Locke's past in "Walkabout," Jin and Sun's respective backstories, Locke's trip to Australia, etc. But this year the backstories haven't had the drive of the island stories.

The Dharma educational film was a bit much a few episodes ago, so I wasn't thrilled to see its return -- especially the deus ex machina of Eko having the cut-out scenes! But who cares, it was fun seeing Locke and Eko interact. One thing that bugged me, though: when Locke was surprised to see Eko had the missing film, Eko said something to the effect of, "Don't confuse fate with coincidence." Now, if he'd said this to Jack, it would have made sense. But isn't Locke Mr. Faith/Fate/etc? Also, the guy playing Eko is a MASTER of the simmering glare -- I burst out laughing several times at his expressions, especially when he just got up and stormed off after watching the Dharma film, glaring all the way.

Oh yeah, the Jack/Kate kiss. The producers are really throwing us around. Kate's been acting smitten with Sawyer, but then runs to Jack and makes out with him after trying to kill Sawyer, whom she later confesses to compare with her repugnant father. Okay. Jack however proved himself to be the player; knocking back a few with Ana-Lucia later that same day -- don't you want to save that alcohol for future medical emergencies, Jack? Guess not. I hate to admit this, but I find myself like A-L a bit more now. I'm 99% sure this is due to when she just kept pumping bullets into the guy who nearly killed her. And as for Sayid on the TV screen in the Army office, it was a nice trick, but much too fast and clever for its own good, and nowhere near as cool as Hurley's WTF??-inducing appearance on the TV in Jin's backstory, last season.

Also, I really loved Michael going to town on those ancient computers. That was hilarious. What was he trying to do, boost the memory or something? Who, when discovering a well-stocked bunker in a mysterious, desolate island, decides to tinker with the freaking computer?? Maybe he wanted to play solitaire or something. So who thinks it was really Walt writing to Michael, or some devious Other trick? The preview for the next episode looks pretty interesting: looks like Michael gets into the gun cabinet and goes out for some revenge.

That's a heartfelt post Buttergun with many valid points but Eko's glares took it all crapness of the episode away for me at least. I'm beginning to hate half the running time of the episodes and entire episodes sometimes except for the cool bits. I'm really not in favour of backstories of first season characters anymore because I dont care about any of those characters. The present is much more interesting and the show's strength lies in the mystery not in the soap opera elements and teasing love triangles within triangles that should left to daytime soaps.
I tend to like deus ex machinas because they open up fourth wall possibilities but this was just a foul little fart of an idea. I could be wrong.

I think he meant that Locke was seeing fate where there was only coincidence. Interesting line, IMO, as it suggests that Eko's supposed religiosity is a little more complex than we've been led to believe.

I have to say, I feel similarly about this episode, it just doesn't stand up to the rest of the good stuff we've been spoilt with recently. Although I would like to point out that what Kate did was most definitely explosive.

For the record, I really enjoy the soap operatics. I don't know how you could watch the show and not enjoy 'em - they're integral to it.

Not to take Lost too seriously, but Kate clearly desperately wishes she was in love with Jack so that she wouldn't have to face her feelings for Sawyer (and now we know why). Her make out session with Jack was her last ditch attempt at avoiding a relationship with Sawyer. She admires and looks up to Jack, and wishes she could be in a relationship with someone like him. However, she is in love with Sawyer.

I did a binge watch of the first nine episodes of season two last week, after not being particularly moved to watch after the really weak season one finale. I'm now hooked enough to watch the rest of the season.

I did a blog on my reactions in depth, but here's the cliff notes. The Dharma Initiative and hatch stuff is great, but the flashbacks are killing the show. For one, they take time away that could be spent developing the characters, but they're also symptomatic of the larger trend that all the character development is retroactive, and the people don't change much in the present. That really hurts the show. At this point, you'd think being stranded on the island would be a bigger trauma than anything back home. But that brings up another problem. Things are way too comfortable for these people. Other than the Tailaways, it seems like they're camping out on a beachfront resort, not stranded, with their lives in danger at all times. If you're doing a show about people standed on an island, at least take advantage of the unqiue stories that this offers you.

Yum.

That new episode was quite good.

Er. Do I have to bother with SPOILER space?

I'm even more firmly convinced that the 'security system' is a cloud of nanomachines, as someone suggested way way back in the thread. It's about time they gave us a real clean look at what people are seeing.

A bit bothered by Charlie's rush back to his heroin... not sure why, but it takes something away from his character for him to be the drug user who seemingly can't quit.

I intensely enjoyed Eko's backstory. The entire opening scence in Nigeria was well done.
