Wanted to step in with some things:
1. The Mama Cass song ("Make your own music") is from the late '60s, not '70s. I think it's from '69, in fact. As for its significance, there was a great premiere-episode writeup over at Entertainment Weekly which claimed the song was a message from the producers to their fans:
"the tune has multiple meanings, and perhaps one of them is aimed squarely at those who spent the summer clacking on their keyboards about last season's allegedly dissatisfying season finale and demanding hard and fast answers to the mysteries of the Hatch, the Monster, the Others, et. al. The rejoinder from Lost: We make the music, you listen; please, dance with us — but we'll do the leading, thank you very much."
2. Did anyone catch Desmond's line, asking if the world was still out there? You get the feeling the guy was under the impression the world was about to end. And also, for a guy who, according to some fans, is part of a worldwide conspiracy, Desmond sure seemed off his rockers. I suppose living alone for that long would make anyone a little nuts, but Desmond seemed more panicky than outright psychotic. Like he's there to hide from something.
3. Jin clearly said "the others," referring to the beefy B-movie extras who came rampaging out of the jungle foliage. And it looks like they already have the feisty brunette from last season's final episode captive -- the lady who met Jack at the airport. Here's betting she and Sawyer will strike up a romance -- providing future dramatic tension, with a Jack/Kate/Sawyer/New Girl quadrangle. |
