But that adds a level of depth to the show I hadn't considered. I know nothing of Alias, but since it is somewhat government-involved, and deals in secrets, what are the poosiblities that the secret cheifs of Alias know of the Island?

Yeah right it could happen... but perhaps there ARE nano-sentinels in the 777's liquor.

I don't for a minute believe Boone is off the show. He's being rebuilt in the soil.

Also, in another 4th season episode of Alias titled "A Clean Conscience", Sydney and her sister go to pick up a friend at LAX. At one point you can hear on an airport loudspeaker the announcement that, "The Oceanic Airlines nonstop flight to Sydney is now ready for boarding at gate 17."

I think these are more likely nods towards Lost rather than the two 'universes' tying together.

Like was said, Terry O'Quinn having been in both kind of puts an end to that.
Mind you, he was also in both Millennium and The X-Files as different characters so it wouldn't be setting a new precedent if that was the case. I just don't reckon that's what's happening here.

On the other side of the Island. They're not the survivors they thought they were.
Apparently.

Well, from the DriveSHAFT band homepage,

We don't know what happened to Harold any more than we know what happened to his research. Word in Silicone Valley is that all of Harold's research was in his laptop on board the plane, headed to an important meeting with the CEOs of the companies leading the nano-technology revolution. But the truth may never be discovered, about the crash or about Harold's top secret work.

how many of these fake sites are there? can you imagine all of the clues that could be out there?

What else could we search for? Do we know the name of Locke's box company?

and what does "survivors they thought they were" mean, exactly? that they are survivors of something OTHER than a plane crash?

Maybe it means that the nanomachines repaired all of their bodies after the planecrash, so they're essentially changed from what they were.

TRYING NOT TO READ REST OF THREAD...

Just saw the first episode of this in the UK... looks pretty good so far. There's another one on in half an hour, which I'll tape cos I have to go to work, but I'll definitely watch it when I get in in the morning.

it's good, Stoatie. I think you'll be into it.

should start a UK thread so you all don't get wildly spoiled glancing at this topic...

Maybe we need a UK Lost thread as I've had to skip the rest of this one too, Stoatlet? Liked it enough to want to see more. Sweet little hobbit too. But her nerves just fell out like angelhair pasta? This is supposed to be a doctor speaking?

Still, good though.

Having not posted on Barbelith in ages I felt it my sacred duty to come and share wicked-cool things with y'all.

This scene is from approximately five minutes into the first episode of Lost. It is not altered or edited in any way from the original broadcast of the show. Sorry for the size, if there are serious problems because of it, I'll be happy to remove it.

Now take a close look.

Interesting, huh?

I decided to post it here because, although I live in the UK, I have seen all but the last episode of Lost, and I'm loving it.

I still think that's just a piece of the fuselage getting sucked in. But then, no one ould convince me that Chuck and Cassie had switched bodies, so, take that for what it's worth.

I guess all us yanks might find out Tuesday on the commentaries.

Tit Tot...good eye...Maybe that flying thing is what that black misty stuff was in the last two episodes...Can't wait for the new season to start.

And the DVDs for Season One Come out this month.

Exciting.

Also, what you don't see in that GIF is the unfortunate gentleman getting sucked into the engine, almost certainly the cause of the explosion.

Not too many secrets revealed on the DVD, but it's definitely a DC 1,000,000 ad on Walt's book, and it seems pretty deliberate, considering it's not upside down or anything, as it would've been if it was some kind of flip book. Combine it with Sawyer's copy of a Wrinkle In Time and all of sudden you've got a theory.

Oooh gotta correct you there, mate. If you watch that sequence carefully you'll note that the man sucked into the engine causes a small fire but not the explosion- the explosion occurs as the black smoky thingie swoops down. I definately think it's the same stuff that we encounter in the last two episodes.

it seems odd that they would make it SO hidden though...I mean, the only reason we can see it is that someone looped the GIF, and then went to the greater extent of slowing it down. why bother putting something in there that no one could ever see with the naked eye in a normal viewing experience?

as I recall the scene there was quite a bit of debris flying around due to the winds produces by the turbine.

also: why would the black thing bother destroying a turbine? no purpose that I can see, and it seems to act with somewhat of a reason most times, yes?

MOney $hot bundles into the Yankee thread, cos he watched the whole 1st season on DVD. Yippee.

What a fucking great show. I got the box set in Canada and watched the whole shebang in one long jet-lagged bleary eyed miasma. It's fucking rockin'.

Loved all the 8 and 15 stuff...some not mentioned in this thread are when Locke's mum asks him where the footballs are in the store he replies 'Aisle 8 for professional, aisle 15 for *something else*' (didn't catch it...)

and there is a team of cheerleaders or something at the airport in the season finale, wearing sports tops, numbered, in sequence, 4,8,15,16,23 and 42...

Jack's seat is 23A, the chick who hits on him at the airport lounge is sitting in 42F...

So what's with these numbers, then?

The I Ching is a pretty interesting reading :

4 - 'Youthful Folly' - the equivalent of the tarot Fool

here

8 - 'Union' or 'Holding Together' - all about working as a team under the guidance of a strong leader.

here

15 - 'Humility' or 'Humbleness' - the virtue of the sage, very important in Eastern philosophy

here

16 - 'Enthusiasm' - again, all about leadership

here

23 - 'Splitting Apart' - not auspicious. The weak are overpowering the few remaining men of virtue.

here

42 - 'Increase' - sacrifice by those above to assist those below, or spirit to serve the pphysical, leading to increase.

here

If you can be arsed, worth reading around the translations a bit.

I reckon JJ and his gang just write the first season full of weirdness, then hang around geeky message boards looking for depth and inspiration as supplied by nerds. Work smart, not hard!

Just remembered another one...in the last ep. someone mentioned a date - August 15th, 1989...so 8, 15 again.

Thought this was quite funny-forced on the Driveshaft band website as well :

The award set a staggering precedent for corporate liability - to the tune of $4,815,162,342 (yes, that's over four BILLION and a most unusual number)

Sued by Boone's mum!

Ok, another wacked out theory just came to me:

What if the numbers are like a layout of each episode? The major secrets are revealed in Episode 4, Episode 8, Episode 15...etc.

I think it fits into Money $hots theory involving the I-Ching, too. I mean, it was somewhere around episode 8 that they starting working as a team...get my drift? I can't really recall the rest of the episodes without reference.

So maybe in Episode 43, Boone, or other deceased will save the living; or maybe the Island will save the world, or...hell, I don't know. I'm just starting to ramble.

I just have to say, I love this show. And I really hope that it turns out that it was as deeply thought out and planned as we are making it out to be.

And if not, whose up for starting (in Creation) a Barbelith TV show? It'd be fly.

Ooh Lardy!

Just watched the season finale again, and noticed something a bit spooky...

As they sail off into the grat unknown, Sawyer is mumbling along to 'Redemption SOng' by Bob Marley. Michael even mentions it...

"You like Bob Marley?"

"Who doesn't like Bob Marley?"...

Soon after Walt gets kidnapped by, er, pirates...

Lyrics anyone?

Old pirates, yes, they rob I;
Sold I to the merchant ships,
Minutes after they took I
From the bottomless pit....

and lots of stiff about atomic energy and mental slavery.

There's something in it I tells ya!!

Nice.

I happened to check the episodes against the Hexagrams :

Ep 4 : (The Fool's Journey (tarot) - Youthful Foolishness (I Ching)

Walkabout - Locke

Ep 8 : (Union / Holding Together)

The ep in which Locke 'joins the group', and begins to pitch in. The moment the whole survivor posse begin working as a team.

Ep 15 : (Humility)

Charlie losing the posh British mark...And determining to look after Claire.

Ep 16 : (Enthusiasm)

Sawyer goes after the boar / his parents 'killer'...Gets it wrong and is set up as a killer in the latter case, gives up and realises it's daft in the former...Joins the group proper.

Ep 23 : (Splitting Apart)

The raft is launched, the hero's head off to get dynamite, Charlie and Sayid go to find Danielle, the group is, er, 'split apart'.

Works for me. Even if it's a 'coincidence', that's par for the course for the I Ching aint it??

On the engine and those swooping weirdies. In the first Claire episode the psychic tells her "I saw a blurry thing" "is that bad?" "that's bad". I'm guessing he saw whatever went past the engine.

Tim Tempest
17:26 / 13.09.05
I think that "the blurry thing" is definitely the same thing that went past the engine and was seen in the last two episodes.

I know this sounds a bit daunting to search for...but do you think that the blurry thing shows up in more episodes as fast and as hidden as when it went by the engine?

Echo Echo.

Noticed that previously the appearance of the 'defence mechanism' was always accompanied by the sound of flapping (birds fleeing maybe, or maybe not), but when it grabbed Locke in the Jungle, it sounded really mechanical, like chains winching or something...Definitely think the whole nano-tech angle is in there somewhere...

I sort of thought the appearance of the wyrd after the dynamite was smoke around an otherwise 'invisible' (or microscopically composed) oojamawotsit.
