Do they explicitly mention fansites and discussion in the podcasts then? I've never listened to them.

They mention the Fuselage a fair bit I think, they also comment on popular opinion. Oh, and there's a (fan) question and answer session at the end of every show.

TBH, comments made on the podcast have significantly contributed to my feeling that there has always been a plan for Lost. A plan of sorts, that is.

They're also quite honest about how flexible certain things end up (Nikki & Paolo, Eko, etc). It shows how set in stone the really important stuff is, though, in contrast.

They've always claimed to be pretty flexible. I think I've already mentioned the creators' roadtrip analogy: that they know where they want to end up and they know where they want to stop off, but they don't know all the details of the trip. I think that sounds very plausible in that it allows for inconsistent writing and plotting and the consequences of the many vagueries of television production, but also allows space for the creators to legitimately claim that they have a vision, albeit an incomplete one.

Where can I get this... "pod-cast"? I had a look on itunes for Lost podcasts and got all sorts of random stuff like Phil Jupitus (or similar) talking about the Series 2 DVD ~ could you guide me to this official one?

The lovely Stone K linked to it on page 39 after I complained that ABC had buried it somewhere on their site.

It's weird, the more I think about Desmond's premonitions and the concept of course correcting, the more I think they do make some kind of sense within the confines of the show's mythology. Still don't like it much, though.

Me: Oh yeah, to continue with the moan, I'm also not terribly thrilled to have another new face on the Island. Haven't we had enough new faces recently? I really hope she's gonna die, frankly, but with those cheek bones I think she might well hang around for a bit.

Of course, all that assumes cast members we know and love are going to live and/or not leave the Island. If there are going to be vacancies in the cast list new blood might well be in order.

Rumour is, 5 people die in the finale, both Losties and Others. Seems to be supported by several sources.

That might be a big spoiler.

I heard my first podcast today thanks B.

I wasn't sure about Ruth's accent though, I had a feeling that she might have actually been Scottish and asked to tone down her accent because there seemed to be something real in there and I know how weird you can sound when you try and hide it.

What time is it in North America, I want to start downloading tonights episode.

Based on tonight's episode, I think I've decided the deal with the island is that it's in some sort of time pocket, where time moves faster than the outside world. My 4 main reasons, with #1 being the bit that forced it into perspective for me:

1. New girl's comment "they found the plane, no survivors"
2. Desmond's forward flashes = he somehow experiences 'normal time' for brief moments.
3. The numerous anagrams that point to "time lost" or "lost time"
4. The pregnancy problems = perhaps the show's internal logic is that 'life' needs the proper and natural amount of time to develop or things go kablooey.

Am I crazy?

You're on to something there! Yes, #1 is the main clue. The pregnancy thing seems the least logical, and your theory seems to fit.

Haven't they actually stated the crash year as 2004, when the series premiered. So perhaps the 9 months they've been there, is 2007 in the outside world.

Another explanation would be an alternate reality.
Maybe that's how the giant three-toed statue fits in?

Mr. Smoke Monster remains a lurking mystery.

Actually, if "they found the plane, no survivors" -- wouldn't it have to be an alternate reality/timeline?

Eskay Uno

Maybe the incredibly wealthy Hanso &/or Mittelos corporations created a fake crash. That way, no one would come anywhere near the island in search of the actual survivors. By now it's clear that there's definitely some kind of experiment going on there, and those behind it are definitely rich and powerful enough to stage a plane crash to cover up their precious secrets.

The island's "magical" properties make it an invaluable resource. Those with access to it are not likely to share, so keeping it's location secret at all costs must be a priority. If it's become invisible to the outside world once again, if the island has become lost to those who exploit it, there must be a frantic search going on to relocate it. Penny's Parachute-Girl may be only the first of more visitors to come. When Patchy ran into Desmondo et al. (no doubt after seeing the flare Hurley shot), he wasn't running away - he was running towards something (someone?) and seemed surprised when the company he found was not who he expected. After Patchy's medical aid, Parachute-Girl mentions in Portuguese that she is not alone ("Eu não estou só" = "I am not alone"), but Patchy covers this up by saying that she was merely thanking him. So who the hekk else is there? Who else is coming? And what if the island wants to stay hidden? Man, I love this show.

My SO and I just had a conversation that featured all three explanations detailed above. I'm leaning towards the cover up idea for all the reasons Stone has listed, but this show clearly has some cerazy sci-fi weirdness going on so I'm far from entirely sold.

So then, new stuff:

Kate's likely preggers, along with some of the others (mayyybeee Rose?)

People in general heal rather well on the Island. Maybe Locke and Rose aren't special. Maybe Ben is.

Juliette hates Ben, which suggests that she may well be conflicted

Anymore stuff that I've forgotten? That episode was jam packed and rather great.

I can assure you she fucking isn't. I don't know if she was going for a rather, and frankly suicidally, ambitious attempt at Highlands/Islands but that was, ehn... that was what I think she was doing, rather awfully. Ah hiv seen Highlander, but cannae mind if eet's wurs.

Ooh... no idea how/if this would tie in, but you remind me of the novel The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger... in it -- BOOK SPOILER -- there's a time-traveling man, and every time he impregnates his wife, she miscarries bc the fetus time-travels and dies. I like the time-pregnancy link... if not time traveling per se... there's something to that.

ambitious attempt at Highlands/Islands well being from the Highlands and Islands myself I thought she was going for a more Southern thing, it was really awful but I just thought maybe she'd been asked to make it less Scottish... anyway not worth swearing at each in any case.

I'm in the fake crash cover up camp myself.

Anyone want to tell me who's playing Naomi? I know I know her from something, either a UK soup or maybe a horror movie?

Also, can I just saw how great whoever the costume designers on Lost are especially whoever is picking out the jackets for the female characters. Suns was great and I want Kates green one that we've seen in a few flashbacks.

Given that Mikhail was almost certainly looking for someone in particular when he stumbled acrodd Des and Co, it seems to me that the Others are anticipating the arrival of people from the outside world - some kind of crew to help fix all their technical problems (and perhaps a few social ones) I'd imagine. Now, if that's the case, I'm thinking it's more than possible that Juliette is still holding out hope that she can leave, hence Ben's ongoing ability to manipulate her.

Of course, whether Ben is happy about the prospect of making contact with the outside world again is another question.

Assuming that she was bothered by it, I'm also wondering whether Juliette blames Ben for Goodwin's death.

I don't like to Lost speculate, but I think it's most likely they're in an alternate reality.

I'm thinking of that scene early in Season 2 when Hurley and Charlie discovered the record in the Hatch, Dingo something? An artist/album neither of them had ever heard of. Seemed an extraneous bit of detail at the time, but now I'm thinking it was just a clue that the reality they're in is not their own.

Now, as for Mikail still being alive...so was he not really dead, just injured, and able to rapidly heal due to the island? Or, can certain people just not die? Could this be the reason for the myseterious "marking" the Others are given, before setting off into the island? And if so, if Mikail died but came back to life, then maybe his Ms. Cleo-looking significant other did as well (the lady he shot at her command -- was she telling him in Russian to just shoot her, because she'd come back to life anyway?)...and maybe that's who Mikail was running to, who he thought was signalling him with the flare gun.

I think the band from the record is mentioned off island in a Locke flashback. The undercover copkid is wearing a t-shirt with the bands name.

Lots of theories about that Mikhail was just faking death (not that anyone checked). I've got a feeling that if there are some deaths going down at end of season at least one will be caused by him, sort of a TV/movie standard to have the guy who was let go come back to bite you on the ass so to speak.

The band was Geronimo Jackson, who have subsequently been seen in flashbacks, so they definitely exist in the Lostverse.

I'm going to take Mikhail at his word that people heal better on the island*, and by "heal" we know that he means from disease as well as injury, permanent or otherwise (Rose's cancer, Locke's back). We also know that some force, I would suggest the same one that's so good at healing, prevents people from getting cancer (except Ben, who did). Also, because storytellers like to be economical with their explanations, I'm thinking that the Island's ability to cure impotence and massively boost sperm counts is tied to the same stuff. Wouldn't surprise me if the problems with pregancy are in there somewhere too.

I just find it hard to imagine that any writer worth their salt would start to flag all this medical gumpf up over the course of a few episodes and then offer multiple causative factors. That would be messy and clunky and consequently very likely confusing and dull.

*Taking that into account, I think it's most likely that Mikhail didn't die, but was merely badly hurt

Mainly because I don't think it's any accident that a guy we saw 'die' in an earlier episode should've uttered this line.

If Mikhail contacted an outside party before the destruction of the station, perhaps he expected them to have signalled their arrival, especially if they knew they wouldn't be able to contact him through the station. Did he attempt to steal the satellite phone to contact them again? Does this also explain why he covered up what the girl had said?

Last week's ep was quite good. Everytime we get an ep featuring Sun and/or Jin, I'm reminded how good the actors are, and how intriguing their back story really is. Of all the couples on the island, and so far, I'm only counting Rose and Bernard as the only other legit couple (Kate and Sawyer don't count; she may be sleeping with him, but it's really Jack that she's pining for) Sun and Jin are the most interesting, and the most tragic. It's clear that they love each other deeply, it's also clear that their relationship is built on a foundation of lies. From the get-go, it's been nothing but lies on top of lies. When Sun admitted that she knew her father was a triad boss and took the $100k from him anyway, she consigned Jin to life as a gangster. How then can she have been surprised when he came home one night with his hands bloodied and bruised? She must have known that whatever he did, it was at the behest of her father.

Actually, being who she is, the daughter of a triad overlord, she could have just threaten Jin's mother with violence and not paid her off at all*. 'Course if that had happened, we never would have gotten the emotionally torn and tortured Jin storyline...

*Was it just me, or did Sun rock the house as Triad Princess when she threaten Jin's mom? I'm not condoing the threat of violence, mind, but it was an ace acting moment.

Although they might've wanted to ask Naomi where the freighter that her Helicopter took off from was located.

She did say the underwater flight wreckage was near Bali, for whatever it's worth.

Did you noticed where Locke's dad was tied up in the camp? That was a column from a ruined temple, and i'm getting excited about the four-toed statue again.
