Can't really be Cap. Cap is being framed. And it seems the only lead character they can really afford to make EEEVIIILL is Black Widow.

We might also find out that Clint's family wasn't really harmed, nor was his boy killed. Maybe they were just roughed up a bit.

Or Wanda will rewrite the Ultimate Universe, and make it so it never happened. Wanda actually doing something joke, plus a House of M joke, plus a reason for Hawkeye to join her and Quicksilver when they have to bust Rogers outta jail. Cap's Kooky Quartet, right?

I mean, we saw blood and people getting beat up, but the boy's 'death' happened off panel, we just heard a gunshot.

was thinking... what if Hawkeye was the initial "traitor" who contacted Hank Pym and leaked the Hulk info. His subsequent death was actually an execution in reaction to that betral; perhaps carried out by Black Widow.

Aertho
20:21 / 16.08.05
That's kinda what I was thinking inititially. But what would be the proof? Fury telling everyone that they killed the traitor? Then everybody would sigh in relief, and move on. The traitor needs his opportunity to explain his/her motivations, why/how they are allied with Loki — essentially, hurt the team even more.

What if, what if, what if... it's Yellowjacket?

But done Fight Club style, so it's Pym going around undermining the Ultimates, but he doesn't realise it, because it's his other personality doing it.

Wandering round his apartment, talking to himself, shooting homemakers.

(Or maybe Banner finally exorcised that Skrull.)

Yellowjacket idea isn't very good and a bit overdone in mainstream american movies now. Should be...I dunno, but it better deliver. 3 more weeks.

The Ultron Project has been mentioned since the beginning. I thought it was a throwaway or further set-up for the last six issues but...

Weird detail: In Ultimates #6 in the conversation between Pym and Fury. Hank says: "They're not quite ready yet, but when they are Ultron and VISION 2 here will be as any strong as any of the super-soldiers and completely under SHIELD command."

Quicksilver complains that Rogers' weighs like 350 pounds. It could be because he's a muscley fucking bastard. But he might just be a scary robot (sorry Chad).

And consider that Hank was speaking waaay too calmly to 'Cap' (if it was Cap) in his apartment, consider he stamped the shit out of him and started dating his wife. So, it looks like Cap, but it's not Cap. It's a robot, but the real Rogers get thrown in super-secret SHIELD prison.

You're going to turn round and say, "but what about the line "this isn't a country I believe in any more"?". Well, I assume Ultron and Vision are programmed with (to paraphrase Futurama) "patrioism-circuits". Subroutines that keep them all-American friendly. Remember, the first issue we see Ultron is the issue Pym got his shit chewed-out by Fury. Might that be enough to chuck a scary robot child over the edge? Ganesh?

No-prize?

(sorry Chad)

No prob, Trips. Was that what you were originally meaning? That Cap is a secret android?

rereading that ultron/vision one again, i was really impressed by hitch's work on their body language. you've got the more pelvisy vision who's a bit loucher and always pointing towards wanda even when she's off panel, and the ultron curls his shoulders and looks like he wants to tear fury apart when he's being nasty to pym. great stuff. the annual was okay i thought, although everything drawn by steve dillon always feels to me like it's being written by garth ennis, and the hitman subplot hardly disspelled that. bit of filler, obviously, but if we get to see all these crap new heropes torn limb from bloody limb in the last arcit will all have been worth it.

Vision 1 saying 'Gah-Lak-Tus'.

Oh, I thought the annual was half-decent. The Fury narration was tops, and I liked the emphasis made about his responsibilty for tucking everyone up in bed.

He really is the daddy.

Steve Dillon draws reprehensible dickwad expressions like no other. There's something innately (nasty/)funny about his art.

from today's new Millar interview where he talks about the beginnings of the Ultimate line:

>> MM: I'd been pitching Joe and Jimmy at Marvel Knights for a while, but it was only once The Authority was a hit that Marvel really paid me any attention. Our second issue - where The Authority took on analogues of the Avengers - was the moment I feared we might hear from Marvel's legal team, but fortunately it was editorial that got in touch and they offered me the chance to re-start the X-Men and re-work it from the ground up for this Ultimate imprint Bill (Jemas) had put together. I knew so little about the X-Men it's not even funny. It's become legend among the editors that my first draft of the first issue had a car crashing into Wolverine and wrapping itself around him, Superman-style, because I thought this is what his healing factor and the adamantium-laced bones entailed.

I guess he thought Wolvie had magnetic powers or something...?

from the same interview:

>> NRAMA: We’d be remiss before we end this, not to ask for some teases, particularly about the traitor among the ranks…

MM: I'm very tempted to make it Jarvis. Someone quite brilliantly pointed out that if Jarvis was the traitor then we could finally have a story where The Butler really did it. And I'd love that. There's one of those things I'd re-do right away. But issue eight will surprise you. And issue nine will hopefully take your breath away. This story is not going where you expect. We're on the phone laughing every day because nobody has actually guessed where we're taking this-- and we read all the boards-- so that's pretty funny. I've never seen so much speculation in my life and we've laid out all the clues since issue one. But nobody's guessed the plan yet. And that's great.

Hmm....so it's not Jarvis.

Hey Mark, sorry about the Morrison padawan remarks, and saying you were Robin to his Batman, and saying that he yelled at you to go get your shoeshine box like that dude yelled at Joe Pesci in Goodfellas. I was just playing.

NRAMA: So you know who’s following you?

/MM: Bryan and I kind of gasped when we heard the team because it's not who you would expect. But that's brilliant because someone coming in and aping our style would have been depressing and out of date. This is a great, new direction from the book and an inspired choice on Marvel's part. I've got a huge amount of respect for the team and am looking forward to the book more than anyone. That said, I hope they aren't too good. Then I'll just be pissed off./

It's Loeb/Madureira. I'm telling you.

Why cant it be Millar and Yu? I mean Millar can write five books a month and Hitch can only draw a comic every three months. Or an Ellis and Yu reunion.

Sadly, newsarama reports that Wizard leaked this very same news on their site today:

>> As promised by Marvel at Chicago, the title of the Loeb/Mad project was being held for the issue of Wizard following the convention, and, at it’s site today, Wizard let the cat out of the bag, in an albeit minor way.

>> In their standard “What you need to know about Wizard 168” the company runs shortly prior to their issue going on sale, one of the teases for the issue reads:

>> JEPH LOEB MOVES TO MARVEL
The DC writer heads to the House of Ideas to do Ultimates with Joe Madureira! PLUS: Exclusive first look at Joe Mad’s new art!

I figure this means that ULTIMATES 2 will end with the team in a very different status quo -- possibly divorced from the government sponsorship. I just can't see Jeph Loeb wanting to write (and Joe Mad pencilling) what is, a lot of the time, a spy thriller. I predict slightly more classical superheroics. [/TalkingOutOfAss]

I also predict me not reading it anymore. Of course, they'll probably get five issues out of Joe Mad over the course of eighteen or nineteen months, and then he'll quit to play more video games. So that's not a huge loss.
