Although I'm fairly sure, for action's sake, Loki's got to throw down eventually. Ambiguity won't really further the action, methinks. Perhaps, Chad, Thor's origins, Asgard, Loki, etc. were always just a latent plot just waiting to step up to the plate. Looks that way to me.

Anyway, here's something cool - if you look closely at Thor's meeting w/ Volstagg, there's a certain pretty, black-haired, blue smocked half-brother smirking away in the background.

There bloody is. Check it out.

Spaniel

Norway inventing the world's most powerful super soldier? Nah.

Also, Volstagg goes on about Loki having allied himself with a being of great power.
Gah-Lak-Tus perhaps?

Aertho

Kang.

Chad, I reckon Gah-Lak-Tus because he's about to make a big splash in the Ultimate universe.

The Natural Way

Hmm, but there really isn't that much crossing-over in the core Ultimates book. I think I might go w/ Kang.

But I don't really care either way.

Aertho

Ya'll are late to the party.

Loki Sighting

Look for dark haired gents in green coats in the laboratories, italian mobs, and restaurants.

And I too could care less which "big bad" it is. I was gonna say Mephisto, but with four-dimensional engines being made in Norway, I figured there'd have to be some kind of outsourcing.

Yeah, but there's going to be when Galactus turns up. It's this year's big ulti-event.

Anyway, what do you know about it? You only read the Ultimates.

Well done for spotting him so early, Chad. I can't believe I missed your post.

I'm gonna go inspect some mobs.

Slike Where's Wally.

Oooh, I see him.

just read it.

hmmm curious parallels to volume 1.

Aertho

I'm thinking his armor works exactly the way Loki described it to.

Chad : 2
Big Surprises : 0

Whoza traitor? I think it's Fury.

And I love the ending. Something's come up in the Middle East. Circular plot then, this being "The Ultimate Passion Play". Will Tony get pissed and form a West Coast / Blue State / Liberal Hippie Surfers Ultimates team?

considering the obviouslness of some of these twists... would BLACK WIDOW be that far off?

unless they're playing Nick Fury as actually Ultimate Max Lordâ„¢

Yeah, that'd what I'm thinking. In the original Avengers storyline, she is trained by the KGB to infiltrate Stark Enterprises. Maybe the Ultimate Soviet Union wants an Ultimate Iron Man suit. That'd be a good story. Later in the original she seduces Hawkeye and turns him (sort of)criminal. It would be great if they reused that plot... And I'm really enjoying where they're going with the Thor/Loki story. But who is Loki's secret ally? I'm hoping someone big...

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
06:34 / 14.04.05
Felt awkward about him losing power with the belt. Obviously, this Thor is weak in the mortal plane; why is that? Are we going to get some watered down Gnostic stuff?

Actually, I like that "clearly" he really is a god, but we're being given more questionable evidence that can go either way.

Would have liked more out of this issue than a freakish long battle. And now I miss Thor's long hair.

Spaniel
13:42 / 14.04.05
More than a long battle? Er, we've had issues and issues of violence free Ulti-fun. We've had nothing but plot, plot, plot. I think a freakishly long action sequence was long overdue.

Mr Tricks
15:43 / 14.04.05
The battle was fun. Wanda was useless. The loss of Thor's belt was not suprising.
As a god would be he tied to the power of belief? That's a fairly common comic trope. I would suppose Loki "altered" reality to make him mortal enough to be effected by the loss of the belt. Or perhaps this will be a variation on the "whomever be worthy to wield this hammer shall have the power of Thor" schtick.

I could easily see Natashia gloating about how easily she was able to get in with the Ultimates, either for an Iron Man suit or just to check their growing power.

Fucking dinner, that was! I was rooting for the hippy every step.

Traitor: Natasha seems too cold war. I don't buy it, and Fury's too obvious - I feel I'm being led there.

ONLY NICE THINGS
09:15 / 15.04.05
Well, Thor's belt enhanced his strength in the myths, so it's not unprecedented...

I second that dinner.

God, I love the Ultimates.

I really liked the Passion of Thor angle. Millar's Catholic altar boy upbringing shining through. And Clint is right, everyone needs an Iron Man/Maiden suit!

Aertho
13:48 / 15.04.05
Everyone needs an Iron suit.

Hawkeye and Fury laid that out fairly sweetly, didn't they? Anyone else get the impression that that is exactly what they were insinuating? Exploit Stark and create a manufactured Iron Army?

Triplets
14:14 / 15.04.05
You all love Millar! Glory! Glory! He is redeemed!

Haus of Mystery
14:22 / 15.04.05
I love 'The Ultimates', not Millar. He may be a prize cockwit, but when he wants to he can write a damn fine action comic.

Triplets
14:31 / 15.04.05
The thing is, not everyone is directly COMPATIBLE with an Iron Man suit. Stark's had his own unique cybernetic jacks fitted and Natasha has her own enhancements (as mentioned in Vol 1) which are probably jury-rigged with Starktech.

yawn - thing's buddy
09:07 / 19.04.05
that was a fuckin good scrap by the way!

shot of cap torching thor was sheer joy.

i was ready tae 'gie honners tae the Thor' as well McGyver.

the graphic efffects worked well too - the magnetic blast thing and iron man's blank mask was a joy-increasing scene fer sure.

'pregger's ruse' was miller at his worst (sub-zenith shtick and worst bit of scrap-script)

the 'samuel jackson spell' is continuing to work wonders tho - it just gives fury so much damn credibility.

think miller's playing the 'origin story/madness of thor/loki the cunt' game very well.

Haus of Mystery
10:30 / 19.04.05
Small thing but I thought there was a tad too much computer effect on the artwork this time. Just a wee bit though.

'Loki the cunt' - definitely a mini-series there...

In what way too much? Could you explain further?

Just interested, is all.

Aertho
16:47 / 19.04.05
A blur applied to Quicksilver is sometimes nice, as if we are seeing a freezeframe. But it's gotten bad when any "force" blast is blurred or zigzagged or textured. It's a matter of creative exploration. And that the blur tool does not mean motion lines are an archaic technique to sequential art.

Spaniel
17:46 / 19.04.05
Yeah, I thought overuse might be the criticism. I can't say it bothered me but I'll have a look.

Haus of Mystery

Eg. The big ol' explosion that Black Widow unleashes - completely blurred to fuck. Hitch probably took two weeks to draw that, so if they're just going to get jiggy with the mouse all over it why bother? WE3 was an example of sensitive 'effect' use, and the Hulk fight issue of the Ulties, but I just felt that there was an over-reliance on it this time. Like I said, a small niggle, but a niggle nonetheless.

but, as a result of thosse DIJ-FX i really felt the warm magnetic wind emanating from iron man's panties.

really.

i did.
