One thing I'll be happy about with a new director, is maybe the "It's all about gay, growing up gay, being... oh, and maybe all those other minorities, oppressed groups, or estranged folks can see something in it, too," and just move on to a more Morrison futurekids scare the crap out of old stick in the muds who should step out of the way, but with more McKellen screentime. I know this reads bitter, but that's just because I'm being bitter. 'X-Men' should be about the different vs conformity, or any oppressed, isolated set or individual joining and doing something useful for the whole of society and life. To limit it to one group or one type of person, is to miss the opportunity of such a broad and simple allegorical possibility.
Really, they just need some random super-allegory director like Beat Takeshi or John Cameron Mitchel to direct an X-Men motion picture for the ages. But, in the meantime, this may be entertaining (hopefully, in more than a spot-the-chara way) and the new preview was actually what I was expecting from the first one. |
