Juggernaught is still making me very nervous.

Indeed.

Is the Dark Future looking section the danger room? Looks good. A fast ball special is in there also, quite nice.

Yes and as you'll note the Colosus doing all this Fastballing is all fleshy and not armored in any way. Do they still need to get to his CGI? Isn’t he super-strong only when in his armoured form?

Now that we know who's on the X-Men team, let's now direct our attention to the roll call of the New Brotherhood of not Evil but Angry Mutants. Starting from the left:

a. Juggernaut, sporting a black leather harness and bullwhip.

b. ???.

c. The funny gay actor playing Magneto...sans make-up obviously.

d. Multiple-Man.

e. Calypso.

f. Stacy X.

g. Pyro.

h. Madelyne Pryor...um, I mean Black Queen or um, no Dark Phoenix.

Who is (b)...the only other villian listed on imdb.com is Omega Red and that ain't him.

I can't get the trailer to work, either...

Oh, and Callisto has an angry looking omega symbol tattooed on her cheek. Check out photo gallery the offical site: http://www.x3movie.com/#

I'd rather Beast was just a hairy sumbitch. Salt and Pepper coloured, not blue. He throws off the film's color palette.

Juggernaut's harness would look a bit less ridiculous if there wasn't the symmetrical bits of chest/nipple poking out in the middle of his chest there.

Ha! Until I flipped back, I thought Juggernaut was Michael Scofield's brother off PrisonBreak. That would've been SO much better. Although, shit, on paper, there's no better Juggernaut than Vinnie Jones.

Now that I think about it, the X-Men series is the PrisonBreak of Superhero Movies. I'll sit through them for the laughter. I'll have to see this trailer after I get back from work, but here's hoping for more Wheelchair Bound psychic fights and chained up old Britons! Fingers crossed!

I wish Beast was grey as well -- three blue characters is just absurd, honestly. The trailer did look shiny and amazing, and even if MY FAVORITE CHARACTER EVER bites it (which the spoilers claim they do), it just might work anyway. I dunno, I hate Brett Ratner but this is really going to live or die by the script -- from the trailer, it just looks like Ratner's saturating the color a bit more and that's it.

That 'Juggernaut / Not Juggernaut' thing at the top of this page is honest-to-God the most laughable thing I have ever seen in my life. Not for nothing does the word "fanboy" appear in the URL. i wizh the w0rld was all cart00nz.

Juggernaut certainly looks pretty goofy, but overall the trailer looked alright. I thought Beast was a little funny-looking, but I'd wager that once I hear him talk it'll all come together.

What's also amusing is that the "cartoon" version of juggernaut there is taken from a Capcom computer game which had a bunch of people moaning they'd messed up the designs of their favourite characters.

That trailer got me quite excited. And, although personally I prefer to watch films without Vinnie Jones in them as opposed to those in which he appears, it really looks as though most of these "new characters" are just background colour. And certainly, it looks like it'd get pretty damn confusing quickly if they're not.

But certainly, there were enough moments in that trailer to make me go "Ooooh, I want to see that!" and just because most of them involved Wolverine smoking cigars doesn't mean any... uh... whatever.

It does look like it might well be a strange hybrid between Joss Whedon's first arc, Planet X taking place in San Francisco, and with Phoenix thrown in for laughs.

I thought Beast looked as well as expected in live action. Like Nightcrawler, certain liberties had to be taken to make the character not ridiculous (a la Ben Affleck in red leather).

Was that Kitty Pryde that Iceman was kissing in the trailer? If so, that actually interests me, trading the girl he can't touch for a girl that is intangible.

As for the plot, well it looks interesting. Quite frankly, I have never enjoyed Phoenix/Dark Phoenix plots, and that seems to be the part which will muck the whole story up.

Just saw it. Nothing to convince me that this will avoid the previous films' MOR tendencies towards Cinematic Doo-Doo Brown.

Don't at all get what people see in these bloated and slip-shod enterprises, but definitely, adding more characters is the way to go! Even your average issue of X-Men wouldn't really stray past a focus on like six characters max. Why would anyone think an even more bloated approach would work on film? Even Magnolia didn't try to focus on this many characters. And that movie focused on a lot of characters, let me tell you.

But hey, they put asses in seats. I do like that they gave Beast a nice Quitely Jacket. Maybe now I'll be able to buy one.

judging by the stills CBR has posted today [fuck you again, Steve Jobs] the saturated colors are good.

yeah, Beast would be much better if was dark grey or plain black, like a big black cat. but we got a blue skinned Frasier with a wig.

that's what you get for literally translating the Comic looks to the screen: Beast, Nightcrawler and Mystique as brothers or cousins. old Comics' colors are too basic to be taken without a tweak or two while shooting a movie. it just hit the other day, this is why all of the main Spider-Man's villains are green: to stand opposite to his red. duh.

and X3 so far seems so crowded and pedestrian that it's bound to be DAREDEVIL all over again... unless that last minute script is real good. well, at least it can't be as bad as FANTASTIC FOUR, can it?

Well, there's no casting snafu on the level of Michael Chiklis/John C. Reilly but was any X-Men movie significantly better than FF?

Also, was that whole post a quote?

ONLY NICE THINGS
16:56 / 06.12.05
OMG! Stan Lee and Chris Claremont? Is there room for Ben Raab as well? Maybe being killed?

Now that we actually have something to discuss - this trailer has actually cheered me up enormously, although Grammer looks silly, spinning!Storm sillier and Russell as Angel is laughable casting. Everyone looks shiny and the tone is suitably over the top - it's Dark Phoenix meets Planet X, by the looks of it. Which is nice.

But Juggernaut. Oh, dear, Juggernaut. Awful, awful, awful. Hopefully most of the spear carriers will be wiped out in the first act.

POSSIBLY BIG & SPOILERY SPECULATION

Logically it makes more narrative sense if it's Charles's memorial, as Moira and Beast don't know Jean (or at least we as the audience have never seen them introduced and makes their prescence at her funeral... well... silly).

Moira, in fact, looks particularly sad about the whole thing.

Ends the franchise on a powerful Martin Luther King note, I'd wager.

Maybe the funeral is for Cyclops —who after realizing the extent of his acting career, looks into a mirror and decapitates himself.

Actually --

POSSIBLE SPOILERS --

-- the early "leaked spoilers" claim that Cyclops is accidentally killed by Jean when she comes back to life. And considering that the only shots of him in the trailer are at Alkali Lake, presumably mere moments before her return... that sounds awfully plausible.

That said, I wouldn't be surprised if they continue to slight the character by not having a funeral for him at all, and the shots from the trailer come from a film-ending funeral for the Professor.

Interesting aside (at least to me):

The first time I watched this trailer I thought that the forest scene with Magneto and the brotherhood had Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch in it, to which I replied "Awesome!". Upon closer inspection, I realized it was actually Pyro and Dark Phoenix. Still cool, but... now I really want Wanda and Pietro.

Anyone else have a similar thought? Anyone else like the idea of Magsy's kids showing up? Anyone else even care?

He'll be mowing his lawn while his neighbour Stan Lee waters his petunias in the opening scene of the film, if the leaked script can be trusted.

Was that Kitty Pryde that Iceman was kissing in the trailer? If so, that actually interests me, trading the girl he can't touch for a girl that is intangible

Yes, we're getting an Ultimate X-Men love triangle.

Juggernaut and Beast look risible in this teaser but might just work on screen.

You say that now but wait until you see a scene with a badly CGI'ed Colossus fighting rubber-suited Juggernaut. I'm sure such a scene may one day result in similar cases of PTSD as was experienced by audience members during the climactic Zangief versus E. Honda scene from Street Fighter: the Movie.

Surely you mean Morph?

Or Mystique? Come to think of it, how did she get chained up and incarcerated, when the last time we saw her she was flying into the sunset with Mags?

Anyone else have a similar thought? Anyone else like the idea of Magsy's kids showing up? Anyone else even care?

That would have been so good and it would have been totally plausible. I mean in film 2, Mystique printing pages from Strykers PC and just like the audience she may have caught a glimpse of the records for the Maximoff twins. And then later as an anniversary gift to her geriatric soul mate, she reveals his present by ripping a tarp of off his long lost son and daughter. What I'm saying is, it would fit in continuity with the second movie.

I rather would have liked Legion to have been worked into the script.

me I'm just bored at seeing Magneto in all of these movies. there are surely other villains around, no matter how Malcolm X-y he can be to the Professor's Martin Luther...

here's a Windows Media Video version of the trailer [with Portuguese subtitles]. not great qulity, but grab it while you can.

Ah, but Magneto is an X-Man. Slike Sir Miles the Invisible. He's orginal, like Charles. And he's the best teacher. Grant knew it, and made it so.

I don't mind Magneto, you need polemics.

Would you rather Mister fuckin Sinister? Or is this supposed to be an argument for Apocalypse? An Earthbound Dark Phoenix is the only enemy worth engaging, with regard to the movieverse themes. And we're getting that.

I love Magneto in these movies. He's one of the best things about them. And Chad’s right, he's an original X-Man... I think it's fantastic that Pyro and now Phoenix have joined his anti-x-men group. It creates that ideological tension on every level (generation).

Prof. X <---> Magneto

Cyclops/Storm/Wolverine <---> Phoenix

Rogue/Iceman <---> Pyro

I don't think any other baddie could work as well as Mags in the films.

Iused to muse that Mystique was Apocalypse's kid or underling at one point in her early history. He's a blue shapeshifter too, so it made sense to me that there was some kind of connection. Blue genes lead to Nightcrawler. Apocalypse was the source of Angel's blue skin. Beast was blue after a genetic experiment, which was retconned to being sabotage by Dark Beast, who was also Apocalypse's underling one reality over. Blueness is thus wrapped up succinctly, and could even be somewhat cosmic, if it's a Celestial monitor chemical sequence...

But like the Braddock Skywalker split theory, it makes too much sense to be recognized by TPTB. Ah —to be the writer of fanwank.

you're right about Mags being 'an original X-Men', Chad. well, for one thing the usual sapiens could be the villains [as they already have in the previous movies, like Senator Kelly and Stryker].

but hey, there's Sentinels, Proteus, Hellfire Club, Legion, Cassandra, the Sublime virus etc, all of them usable in stories where the core x-men concept of mutation and acceptance is at work depending on how you treat them.

I hate the pointless villains you mentioned, but I guess Apocalypse could work on SciFi angle.

OK, I must admit to a disgustingly powerful crush on the guy playing Colossus in the movies, but my God, that metal effect is not so good. I think I'd prefer a brushed-metal Colossus to the nine millionth Hollywood variation on the T2-liquid-metal effect.
