not a poltergeist--he jumped into that body they mentioned earlier in the film. This has been done repeatedly in the comics.

Jean Grey did the same thing in Uncanny 281 (jumping into Emma's body), and Emma did the same thing a little later (with Iceman's body).

Also it seems much more parsimonious to conclude that Magneto was moving the little metal chess piece, slowly regaining his power. This would suggest the whole cure only works on a temporary basis, and that all the affected mutants will get their abilities back.

That means there'll be quite a few pissed off mutants gunning for Magneto.

All in all the reveiws here nailed it--much fun during, but left feeling empty. Definately not as good as the first two.

thread resurrection alert...

Interesting piece about X3 and minority/identity politics. I want to go thru it and respond to various bits of it, but not entirely sure if this thread, or a potential new one about X-Men-in-general and identity politics (here or in Comics?) is the best place to do so...

Hmmm, written by someone who hasn't read the comics and doesn't sound like he particularly likes the sci-fi genre... and One character’s mutation is so deadly she is unable to prevent it from killing anyone she touches, and so she must avoid direct physical contact with others; the AIDS metaphor here is obvious. Yes, that well known disease AIDS that transfers and kills by touch. Maybe he doesn't understand what a metaphor is or indeed AIDS, unless the medical community isn't being upfront with the rest of us about how it's transmitted.

I have said that the choice by mutants whether or not to take the “cure” parallels debates within the gay, Jewish, and disabled communities;

There's a debate in the Jewish community on how to cure being Jewish?

"There's a debate in the Jewish community on how to cure being Jewish?"

I understand that on occasion Jewish people have been driven to self-hatred by persecution and undergone plastic surgery to reduce the ethnicity of their appearance; perhaps this is what the author was referring to.

Well, i think the metaphor he meant was Rogue's "touch" being a metaphor for teh s3x0rz!!11!, which IMO is reasonable in-context... IMO, like a lot of stuff that's obviously vaguely intended as social "metaphors" in sci-fi and superhero comics, it's not so much a precise metaphor for one issue, but a concept which different writers (or the same writer in different moods/with a different storyline to consider) have used as metaphors for various different things, or even for several things at the same time (much like vampirism in Blade or B:TVS being a metaphor for drugs, organised crime/govt corruption, STDs and various other things, or the aliens in the Alien series of films representing rape/molestation, male fear/envy of childbirth, female fear of unwanted pregnancy/abortion, possibly STDs again, etc)...

A lot of the points in the article i think are very valid, quite a few others did IMO stem from ignorance/misunderstanding of the source material. If C&P-with-comment isn't frowned upon on this board, i'll go thru a few of them...
