well, it seems very clear that Darkseid is doing exactly that: taking out the big guns prior to his big push/arrival. I don't mean to be snide; simply that it's something we the audience know and that Diana & the heroes were just beginning to piece together in #3, correct?
>> part of me wants Lex Luthor to turn this whole thing around, though GM doesn't seem (in ASS) to think he's got any kind of a good streak with or without superman. then again, if the premise is that good guys can't win, maybe it will make sense for the earth's supervillains to save the day ....
I think Luthor will definitely work hard to fight off the coming onslaught here... maybe even resisting the Anti-Life Equation somehow? I think the arc might go: 1) Luthor fights hard against Dark Side & Co., Luthor does some good that helps turn the tide a bit, and then 2) when we go back to 'status quo or something quite like it,' Luthor uses his actions as justification for why he's awesome and Superman smells. A bit of good coming from the bad guy, which sort of parallels the Hood over in Bendis' Secret Invasion (as Libra's speeches eerily parallel the Hood's earlier speeches) wanting to rally villains to fight the Skrulls, because no more earth is 'bad for business.' (Although Luthor's motivations are more like 'humanity will not surrender to super-powered jerks' and the Hood is like 'I can't make money as a criminal if evil aliens take over the world') |
