We've got King Kraken, Ned Kelly, Pierrot La Fou, Charlie Caligula and El Sombrero, but who's princess shinypants in front of Ned? One of The Knight or Wingman's baddies?

sweet.

i've been blabbing a lot in the past months about my dislike of Daniel's art, but i'm not unfair and i'll give him credit for this.

what i see here is beautiful, with the right dose of the creepy tone that Batman needs. the skipped month was worth the extra time.

sorry, Tony, you did very well here. cheers.

So... who's behind Hurts' mask? Alfred or Bruce? :P

So we have King Krakken, Pierrot Lunaire, Charlie Caligula, El Sombrero, Scorpiana and Springhill Jack, right?

And Quasimodo?

The Hunchback, Pierrot Lunaire, King Kraken, Charlie Caligula, Scorpiana and El Sombrero. they ain't the black glove though, is they? more surprises there yet i reckon, loving the speculation hereabouts too.

No, they're the "Club of Villains".

Spooky...

It's Springheeled Jack and not 'springhill', as I mistyped last night. I coudn't find my copy of #668, where he's mentioned as the former Knight killer.

But I found the issue some minutes ago. It was not a scheme by the Black Glove, after all.

Myspace Comics has a quick shot of the new Batmobile, which is a new take on old designs.

We heard about Springhill Jack in JLA: Classified #(some number) too. Not a nice guy.

Folklore pedant engage.

He's Spring-Heeled, as in he jumps high, not Springhill, as in a man perhaps from a recently developed gated community. He's a monster from English folklore; a 19th century urban legend, like the New Jersey Devil or the Chupacabra. Penny dreadfuls, fought Kolchak the Night Stalker. Wikipedia.

Ill-mannered. Devilish in appearance. Likely excels at basketball and parkour. Also not in that preview.

He's been referenced several times in DC Comics past as an archvillain of The Knight, but the only one in the preview unaccounted for previously is Le Bossu ('the hunchback'), who I'd take as an enemy of The Musketeer.

If, as you look to be hinting, you are the reincarnation of Jack the Ripper, would it be all right to ask if this time round it might be an idea for you to think about drawing up a proper list? And to not be so sexist this time? The last effort seemed a bit random.

As a possible opening gambit, I don't know how sure anyone is about Prince William these days.

Springheel Jack? Jack the Ripper? Springheel Jack the Ripper?

What do you mean reincarnation anyway? Regeneration more like. At last, my Batman/Doctor Who slashfiction, my... Great Work, can begin.

POTENTIAL MINI RIP SPOILER ALERT!

There's a new interview w/ Tony Daniel over at newsarama where he talks about the weirdest thing he's had to draw for the RIP arc as being 'the rainbow creature'. He indicates that it's from Bats's pre-history. Could it connect to the Rainbow Batman?

awwww yeahh!! Bring on the Rainbow Batman (GM even mentioned the Rainbow Batman in an earlier interview about his run on the book).

Well... that weird caleidoscopic color scheme from issue 678 Ross' cover is quite probably that "Rainbow Creature"...

Oh and there's probably not any Springheeled Jack in that room. I think "Ned Kelly" is just... Ned Kelly.

i've got to read it again...

spoilers ahead:

the Black Glove group meet for the 'danse macabre' to which it sends an invitation to Jezebel. which puts enough excitement in the life of our over-relaxed favourite playboy.

who's been enjoying\bored by a crime-free Gotham now only threatened by crooks from an "equality of American Idol times" or something to that effect - clever.

this comment comig from our suspect #1 Alfred while talkig to ow my suspect #2 Tim Drake, who wonders if Damian is really Bruce's son.

Batman is almost a supporting character here, the new Batmobile a close lead. and a murderous mastermind [a derranged one] is recruited\summoned by TBG. a creepy issue. Batman is up for an ugly fall.

oh, you didn't ask for te sinopsys? my bad...

12:38 / 15.05.08
Tim Drake? A suspect? I'm sorry, Hector, but is that a hunch for hunch sake, or do you have any clues? Because, really, absolutely nothing throughout the run points to him. Or is that another suspect to add to the infamous list of Catwoman, Hugo Strange and King Tut?

I just read the new issue, and the schizophrenia pattern continues to run rampart. Monsieur LeBossu is clearly a Dr.Jeckyl/Mr.Hyde shtick, instead of a Quasimodo type. He appears at the end of the issue in his human form inviting the Joker to the Danse Macabre. On page 3, when he claims to have killed someone, Dr.Hurt promptly replies he changed the medical files of the deadman to include a (guess what) paranoid schizophrenia history.

Right after the Dr.Hurt/Club of Villains double-spread, we see a loony costumed villain in Gotham screaming "Stupid Cheap Mask! Leave'em crazy clues they'll never work out!". Morrison addressing the reader about Dr.Hurt wearing a cheap mask?

Later, Jezebel asks Bruce "What happens when you've finally won? When they're avenged at last? Will you know?".
What if that's exactly what fractured-psyche Wayne or Alfred or both are trying to do? Trying that Wayne/Batman always has a focus, a meaning to his life? Creating the supreme mastercriminal to fill the emptiness created by Batman's anti-crime spree? Avoiding Wayne has ever to face the situation when he has finally won and won't have anything to do in his life from then on?

There's also the thing about the Batmobile not being how he imagined/saw/envisioned/whateverformofwordsheactuallyused it when started out building it.

MFreitas
14:33 / 15.05.08
Yes, because everything from the beginning has been about "Building a Better Batmobile" (the title from Grant's 1st issue). That should mean "building a better Batman, a better Bat-verse, better Bat-stories". Could it be Morrison changed some of his initial ideas? The first thing he thought of was R.I.P, after all...

MFreitas

Just found out "Le Bossu" is french for "The Hunchback".
