IP Blockage
Should notices be posted that IPs are being blocked due to high rates of trolling? Is blocking IP addresses simply a finger in a leaking dike, an altogether temporary solution to the trolling problem?

A group is its own worst enemy...
Geoff Cohen has a great observation about this. He said "The likelihood that any unmoderated group will eventually get into a flame-war about whether or not to have a moderator approaches one as time increases." As a group commits to its existence as a group, and begins to think that the group is good or important, the chance that they will begin to call for additional structure, in order to defend themselves from themselves, gets very, very high.

Important: PM threats carrying over into Real Life
Another poster has threatened to initiate legal action against me, as well as contacting my ISP, Tom Coates' ISP, Barbelith's host company, my workplace and the police. The fact that he has gone to the trouble of obtaining my personal details adds an additional element of Real Life threat. Other Barbeloids - particularly Moderators - may wish to check their online security.

PM Policy
Another PM dispute hits the public sphere of the board. Tempers are hot, two people are locked in bitter conflict--once behind closed doors, but now bursting into public space. OR Someone has received a nasty PM from someone else and can't simply ignore it, but doesn't want to get into it with the person who sent it. In both cases, how are we as a community going to handle it?

PM Protocol
Since there has been some discussion about PM etiquette lately and also in the past, it might be a good idea if we try to establish some basic ground rules about the use of material from &/v related to PMs on the public board. Perhaps we can come to some sort of consensus that could be used towards something for the wiki?
I have assembled some cases to look at. Each case will link to the incident in question, but in an attempt to avoid bias and promote some sort of relative objectivity, I will refer to the people involved in the cases by “member x.” I will argue what I feel each instance to be and others are invited to agree or disagree, but if you disagree, then please provide an argument as to why. Also, if others also can provide more cases (I am looking at the ones I could find), then please bring them forward.

Thoughts on Raising the Caliber of Discussion in the Headshop
I generally feel that the level of discussion in the Headshop is great and that there are many active contributors who make dialogue beneficial. However, I also feel that we can do more to raise the bar even higher—and why shouldn’t it be—this would include also taking the time to offer positive theses and not merely negative ones.
