Tenchu is fucking hard, but it's NINJAS!

Argh! The. Plural. Of. Ninja. Is. Ninja. As any fule knowe, in Japanese, nouns are invariably written in the singular form, even though they might refer to the plural form of the noun. Now if you'd said Pirates...

Re: The Getaway. Metropolis Street Racer did the 'real city streets' things a few years ago, but had the added bonus of a game in there. I'm always wary of titles that promote a purely visual feature as their USP.

Oook ook ook. Anyone live near the Cheshire Oaks retail park? I popped up there today and picked up a brand new Dreamcast (the old one's died again) for £50. They've got one left. It's a bleedin' must-have. Really.

Dynasty Warriors 4 is pretty damn mad, quite hard though!

I've just finished Vice City and I usually listen to VCPR and there's a section on it with Jeremy Robard who is a motivational speaker. I've listened to it so many times that I noticed that there are veiled references to drugs. Maybe I'm just reading too much into it, but I don't think so. He says:
"When I was in jail, I got the idea for my current business."

Okay so that's not conclusive, but Maurice Chaves says
"you look like you sell drugs to people."

Again, not conclusive, but look at his three programs which spell out drugs:
Learn Start Doing - LSD
Motivate, Demonstrate and Motivate Again - MDMA
Think, Hold that thought, Complete - THC

He says:
"I'll supply you with all the materials you'll need to completly change the way you see the world, guaranteed."

When he's talking to Jenny (the happy orphan) he says:
"You sound like you'd enjoy my program motivate, demonstrate, then motivate again. Nobody ever complained about that program. You hug people and you laugh like you never laughed before."

When he's talking to Constantine (the depressive goth) he says:
"Listen, I was just like you at one time, except I didn't wear makeup. That would get you a firm beating where I grew up. I'm happy to give you a sample of my course learn start doing. I promise you'll run out and buy some colored clothing, and listen to some music other than people groaning on and on for half an hour about how much it rains in Manchester."

I think it's really funny.

The Return Of Rothkoid

Just completed Red Faction, which I quite liked, some dodgy anim aside. Am currently playing Max Payne and enjoying very much - apart from recognising that a souped-up PC would do it far better than my PS2 - though the walking-on-ledges control sensitivity is really fucking annoying, especially in the nightmare sequence...

Also playing Rez. One word: drugs.

Glad you're enjoying Max Payne, Rothkoid. Despite the nightmare sequences (which are a fucking pig on the PC to say the least).

Currently: Medal of Honor, Allied Assault (still); about 5/6 of the way through, doing the sodding tank missions. Highlights so far were probably all of mission 3 (Omaha, bunkers, Nebelwerfers) and most of 5 until the tank (snipey snipey snipe snipe). Oh, and the bit with the train. Also: Warcraft 3, in lunch hours, with the guys at work. Tried to buy a copy to day but shop staff were shit. Will acquire one for myself to practifce on (people at work scarily good) tomorrow.

I liked Max Payne... I thought the nightmare sequences were genuinely scary... but, yes, unplayable.

Just got a new computer so I'm playing all the games I had that wouldn't work on my old one- Freedom Force, GTA3, Silent Hill 2 and the wonder that is Postal 2. Okay, so the constant "load zones" are really pissing me off, and the gameplay itself's not that hot, but it's truly offensive, and not only do you get to totally kill tons of people, you get to piss on them AND meet Gary Coleman as well!!!

I don't think there is a way for me to express how much I hated the "nightmares" in Max Payne. Nearly ruined the game for me, and is the main reason why I didn't play it through a second time.

Hopefully they won't be in the sequel.

Doorstop, mt arse I'm revisiting all the games that I bought but either never had enough time to get into or never even managed to start because of Uni. Getting the most out of Headhunter, which is an odd but effective mix of Resident Evil and Metal Gear Solid, set in sunny California and with really well-implemented Harley-riding sections linking the missions. It's a crime that it became a victim of the fall-out from Sega's retirement from the console market - the PS2 version seemed to make it to the shelves without anyone noticing.

So glad that I can play Rez again, too - the fifth level is still one of the best gaming experiences around.

Warcraft III, and, in the lunch hour at work, 3v3 Frozen Throne (expansion). I am REALLY impressed with this. Fun single player, awesome CGI, and the multiplayer is brilliant, if pretty difficult. Picked it up because it works on my Mac and the guys at work play it. Great fun - and remarkably well balanced. The whole thing is just... so well put together. And fun. Especially against your boss.

Well, I conveniently discovered, this evening, that when my friend decided he'd "have a go" at Max Payne, that it oversaves your continued game - even if you'd already cleared the level.

Fuck.

Never that big a fan of Warcraft, and although I did like the ability of the Wood Elves to move their 'buildings' from place to place, I think it was a little too much emphasis on the fighting for my tastes. Playing vast amounts of Rise of Nations however and having much fun with the Russians and their massive advantages with defense.

I love Warcraft III- as soon as I get my save games transferred over, that's another one I'm going back to. Frozen Throne, huh, Paleface? I so can't wait for that, but I'm gonna try to complete the campaign on the normal game first. (Haven't been able to get past "Beneath A Burning Sky" in the Undead campaign yet.) On a similar tip, Age of Mythology is truly wonderful. (The Siege of Troy would have, I've discovered, been over much quicker if they'd used hydrae and cyclops.)

Another game I've had for ages but have just discovered works perfectly on my new PC whereas it was a bit shit on my old one is Freedom Force (Golden Age superhero RTS/RPG). It's ace. Very silly, but fucking ace. Why aren't there more superhero games that aren't just beat 'em ups? You'd think it'd be an obvious genre.

Frozen Throne is interesting; I can only comment on Multiplayer changes. Basically, creeping has decreased in importance, and Heroes level up faster in combat now. Each race gets a new hero, which vary in usefulness; there's also way more heroes for hire in the taverns, some of which are stupidly awesome. There's also some new building options and handy new stuff in the game - upgrades can be queued alongwith troop production, etc. It's certainly a bag of fun. I'm considering checking out Starcraft, too, which I always liked the look of. I'm surprised because I never really clicked with Warcraft II. I'm working through the normal campaign, having the odd skirmish, and playing FT multiplayer in the lunch hour. Am still quite shit, but pulled off a pretty good session on Friday.

As a number of people seem to be revisting Max Payne, let me suggest a couple of mods

Max Knows Kung Fu

Also, the Trinity Mod in which you get Guns...

Lots of Guns

Supposed to be a better Matrix than the Enter the Matrix game

Emulation was mentioned upthread, can anyone help me with my Amiga emulator? I've got (joy of joys) Speedball 2 running on My UAE emulator but I can't seem to play it with the keyboard, do I need to buy a joystick?

Actually I'm asking this question with regard to the emulator as a whole, it's just that that's the first game I've tried.

thankee..

I know it's been getting a lot of bad (well, okay, not bad, but disappointed) press- including from punji steak who actually WORKS for Eidos... but I'm LOVING Republic: the Revolution right now.
It's flawed... in the same way Black & White was flawed (ie- it reached too high and didn't quite make it). It's a fuck of a long way from being shit, however.

I've just been holding political rallies all over Novistrana... and I've been getting GOOD audience response. It's ace. The Badgers of Stoatie shall prevail!!! (You get to send your people out graffiti-ing and EVERYTHING.)

MC Lentil: I use WinUAE for Amiga emulation and that supports keyboard, mouse and joystick/pad. Click on the 'Input' tab and select keyboard from the drop-down 'Device' menu.

Think I'll buy freedom fighters next week, the demo seemed fun in a USA USA kinda way. But of course the big wait is for Smackdown 5 - Here Comes the Pain which looks like it's going to be really really cool and you can play as The Million Dollar Man and LOD! Woohoo.

And how long will it be before the newspapers pick up on Manhunt and try and get it banned? Does sound quite gruesome to be fair.

Anyone still playing GTA3:Vice City still, borrowed it from a mate who we lent GTA3 and it's amazing what a decent soundtrack can do for a already great game . Also with Kill Frenzies respawning I can finally be arsed to do them, most fun was the sniper mission on the roof next to the car park on the first island.

My housemate is working his way through the Lovefist missions, Whilst I've just started on 'JuJu scramble', you get zombiefied and have to collect some 'Powders' for the priestess, heh. The Phenom Phen 81' mission is also a lot of fun.

I keep on thinking that GTAIII just needs the addition of items other than guns and a conversation engine and you've got a kick ass RPG system.

BTW Manhunt? Is this the game where you are the particpant in a 'Game of Death' or a snuff film in a similar style to the Running Man book? Sounds great, is this a Rockstar thing?

... currently desperately addicted to Knights of the Old Republic (xbox) ... so engrossing ... although, unlike my mate who seems to be happily hacking his murderous way through the galaxy as he gleefully succombs to the dark side and the mantle of Darth Valkyrie, i can't seem to resist doing a bit of an obi-wan and saving the day ... fabulous fun

Manhunt is Rockstar's new one and does indeed look like it's going to be the nastiest game ever. Currently working my way through the early stages of Metroid Prime - just about the prettiest computer game I've ever played.

Currently alternating between Thief 2 and MDK 2. One gives me all the sneaking, lock-picking and coshing action my life requires, and the other enables me to run around like a mad fool.
In particular I like the way the insane techno-priest villain of Thief 2 speaks with the voice of Droopy Dog, as do his steampunk 'children'. Uncannily creepy.
Also bought Homeworld, but can't get into its' method of combat, which has both not enough control and too much involvement required.

Playing Baldur's Gate II and Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory, a nice free, simple, multiplayer WWII-shoot-out, you can get it here.

It's amazing what playing as part of a team of 15 people trying to achieve a common objective does for a game.

Of course, then there's the part about playing in a totally anonymous environment where most of the people are just as bad at the game as you are, and it's really sad.

They've dealt nicely with people killing their team-mates and so on, you can call a vote and usually assholes are quickly kicked off the servers and banned.

I like it.

StarWars Galaxies has mad me its bitch!

Amazingly great game with a lot of small quirky bugs. But they twek the game daily some hopefully most of them get fixed.
Badthing about it...too much time walking from place to place and time spent sitting around healing. They say their going to introduce speeder and speederbikes soon but still... So much time that Ive had time to come up with this: (posted in lateshift reposted for those who dont read Latehift)
Sung to the tune of I Am the Very Model Of a Modern Major General..

I am the hairy model of a walking wookie arsenal
Im the biggest furball especially when au naturel...
I know ten ways to Anchorhead, all time-wise economical
From Degobah to Tatooine, in order to avoid Darth Maul;
Im very well aquainted, too, with matters all Shyriiwookian,
I understand the languages, both Bothan and Twi-lakian,
About the first three episodes, Im filled with a lot o'news
With all the fans who now think watching them is child abuse.

With all the fans who now think watching them is child abuse.
With all the fans who now think watching them is child abuse.
With all the fans who now think watching them is child abuse.

I'm very good at interstellar and hyperspatial calculus
I know the secret names of bases most rebellious
In short in matters criminal, rebellion and imperial
I am the hairy model of a walking wookie arsenal

In short in matters criminal, rebellion and imperial
He is the hairy model of a walking wookie arsenal

I know your planet's history, like Alderaan and Mr.Spock,
I always hate robotics, I've a pretty taste for fried Mynocks,
I roar like a maniac all the times im not quite fabulous,
In starships I can floor it and Cor-Sec cops can't handle us!

I can tell undoubted Rebels from Grand Admiral hypocrasies
I know the chocking force from the hands of great bureaucracies!
Then I can hunt down fools and things which others aint got the stomach for
And whistle all the time 'cause murder most infernal is not a chore!

And whistle all the time 'cause murder most infernal's not a chore!
And whistle all the time 'cause murder most infernal's not a chore!
And whistle all the time 'cause murder most infernal's not a chore!

Then I can slice a tauntaun in an attempt to keep you warm,
And tell you ev'ry detail of Darth Vader's fancy uniform.
In short in matters criminal, rebellion and imperial
I am the hairy model of a walking wookie arsenal.

In short in matters criminal, rebellion and imperial
He is the hairy model of a walking wookie arsenal

In fact, when I know what is meant by "midiclorian " and "time-travellin'"
When I can tell at sight a mouse-bot from a garbage bin,
When such affairs as R2's and C3's im more wary at,
And when I know precisely where the Emperor is buried at.
When I have stole what progress has been made in madalorean amoury
When I know more trandoshian then you might as well join a nunnery
In short, 'cause I've been mastering the force and its energy
You'll bow before your betters or from my fingers taste electricity!

You'll bow before your betters or from his fingers taste electricity!
You'll bow before your betters or from his fingers taste electricity!
You'll bow before your betters or from his fingers taste electricity!

Of Warcries I have knowledge, so you'll cower when I go frenzy,
the largest of the Rancors I have brought down without ruinning all my fineries,
But still,in matters criminal, rebellion and imperial
I am the hairy model of a walking wookie arsenal

But still,in matters criminal, rebellion and imperial
He is the hairy model of a walking wookie arsenal

Too much down time!
