I'm actually increasingly concerned about the strain of majykl thought which treats this kind of thing--long stays in the psych ward, medium to long-term damage to mental, physical health, and so forth--as being something to not take really fucking seriously. I mean it happens, sure. Things can go wrong, you can be sent a condition as a little life lesson from the Universe Space, stuff can happen too quickly for you to keep up with without going a bit wobbly, but these should generally be regarded as, well, things going wrong.
Admittedly there are certain paths which are higher risk (usually because they involve doing crazy shit that gets you hurt), but really you should basically not be getting more fucked up by your practice than you were without it. I'm disturbed by what I see as a rather cavalier attitude to people's wellbeing.
Some compassion, man, some fucking compassion. |
