Yes, that's Ivor, formerly Pyewackett, late of the DeDI supporter's club, continual fucking irritant.

Removing my Chaos Majickian's robes for a second, this does actually neatly prove a point that I've been making for a while: having bad posts and bad posters is not a neutral action. Bad posts make it seem pointless to make good posts, bad members drive away good members.

He's also stinking up the Temple with his irritating posting style and almost total lack of content. I'm getting sick of this. I don't think the needle's in the ban-thread red yet but if he doesn't pull his socks up that's where we're headed.

I've posted the admittedly miniscule amount I had to say in the Watts topic, and ignored (though not Ignored) Ivor's contributions. It's sure going to be embarrassing for me if no one replies now. Quelle dommage.

I'm currently fed up that I can't think of a solution that would allow us to deal effectively with an invasion of trollprannies without resorting to admins, which, tbh, isn't an idea I'm very keen on.

I have a calming mantra you might want to try AB:

ban hammer comes soon. ban hammer comes soon. ban hammer comes soon.

I repeat it to myself in times of crisis.

Also, amusing that someone who has posted only 37 times in three years (around a third of our potential n00bs quota btw) is setting themselves up as a guide to speak for community standards.

Well like I said above I don't think this is a ban sitch and I hope it doesn't become one. I don't believe that guy is actually trying to wind anyone up, and I sincerely hope that the whole thing can be resolved happily. I don't actually enjoy coming down and yelling at people, and I especially don't like the idea that it's creating a more hostile atmosphere... I dunno, the whole thing just bleaks me out.

Well, he or she isn't - s/he is expressing hir opinion about how the reaction to Pyewacket/Ivor make hir feel, and how that could be avoided. I broadly disagree, in this case, that those suggestions are useful (we have admins? I don't believe so) but it's a reasonable thing to do. Harmonic Series may not have posted much, but hir posts have generally been well-mannered and at times informative, IIRC - one might hope for a similar signal to noise ratio from more voluble members.

I'm not sure talking an awful lot makes a person qualified for much more than a job on QVC, y'know Diana. I mean, I get what you're saying, but at the same time... well, I'm sure you get what I'm saying.

Like, Silent Bob is still in the movie, y'know?

Point taken.
I think being tired might be making me more grumpy than normal. I will come back after sleep and try to be more reasonable and less judgemental.

Harmonic, apologies for being a snarklpuss.

I've just been rereading the post Fetch thread. ANNOY.

Other than all those berks defending his awfulness, what especially got on my wick was all that bloody talk by Raelian Autopsy about the subjectiveness of subjective subjects, subjected to subjective statements made by other subjective subjects on many subjects, man.

Shut up. It's the sort of shit argument I was enthralled by when I was 14 and A YOUNG COCK!

While I was looking for that thread on Google I came across some of the Fetch's more recent posts on an avowedly anti-Semitic forum. He's still kvetching about his ejection from Barbelith.

I wonder if anyone who feels that way, even if it's only on an off-day, is necessarily quite ready to take on moderator duties at this point in time.

I wonder that as well, but seeing as how I am unwilling to take on that responsibility myself, I also wonder if I am in a place to speak.

The Fetch. I think I threw up a little just now, reading that thread. I don't know how I missed it the first time.

That would, I think, be everyone under certain circumstances.

And yeah, The Fetch is messed up. The only consolation(?) is that he's dragged his shit across so many other sites, notably GNN (which I understand had to make major changes to their membership policy in the wake of Fetcho's attentions). He's kind of a big-name troll.

Was it the fetch who trolled GNN into putting the bars up? Didn't innercircle do that as well?

*googles*

Wow. Wow.

'Banhammer' in general. As a meme.

I'm in no position to criticise anyone else's leisure activities, but if there is a place for Live Action Role Play isn't it in a field, or a green wood, or the context of a loving relationship? As opposed to a public forum which people do hopefully read during their coffee break or whatever, even if they haven't signed up?

As it is, talk of the Banhammer seems uncomfortably close to, say, 'My Elvish Sword + 11', or related.

'My Mighty Stormbringer', and so on.

Tuna Ghost: Pratt knot hero

My Stormbringer is mighty, and I'll tell the whole goddam world if I want to.

But back to the point: the last time I was in any sort of leadership position (with responsibility and everything! Scary!), I remember feeling pleased that I at last had the power to make the changes I saw as neccessary, even if those changes were made by force (to be truthful, I was a much younger and more violent person then, so I was not that concerned about the force part). So I understand the feeling. Maybe that's not what we'd prefer the users of the Banhammer Mark VIIā„¢ to be feeling, but I think if anyone feels the thing is being misused objections will be raised and addressed.

I'm actually increasingly concerned about the strain of majykl thought which treats this kind of thing--long stays in the psych ward, medium to long-term damage to mental, physical health, and so forth--as being something to not take really fucking seriously. I mean it happens, sure. Things can go wrong, you can be sent a condition as a little life lesson from the Universe Space, stuff can happen too quickly for you to keep up with without going a bit wobbly, but these should generally be regarded as, well, things going wrong.

Admittedly there are certain paths which are higher risk (usually because they involve doing crazy shit that gets you hurt), but really you should basically not be getting more fucked up by your practice than you were without it. I'm disturbed by what I see as a rather cavalier attitude to people's wellbeing.

Some compassion, man, some fucking compassion.

Some compassion, man, some fucking compassion.

Yes, indeed. Perhaps, along with that some awareness. Self-awareness is always good, but really getting a clue about what someone else is going through would be a grand start.

If it's not asking too much, maybe a touch of self-control and a dash of humility can be worked in too. I'll settle for a little compassion though, if it is all that can be mustered up.

That is quite annoying; surely if you want to ignore someone, and you can check single posts to see if they're still worth ignoring, you should be able to do so with unlimited remit?

HCE

Tell me about it, dude. When you've had somebody on ignore for years it starts to get tiresome.
