The other Barbannoy thread is over two years old, here's a new thread to register irritation, fitter, happier, more productive.

Today, the lack of a 'preview edit' button is my annoy. You?

I'm annoyed that there isn't a Barbadore thread.

Um. That's easily solved, really, isn't it?

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
15:13 / 22.06.07
There's the Barbecrush thread, but it's usually people-specific rather than things.

Preview edit would be great! But at least you get a touch of the unknown in your day.

Nothing's really annoying me at the moment, though I do tend to stay away from the parts that make my brain twitch.

I'm ever so slightly annoyed that you haven't bothered to answer my question in this thread here, my dear lolcat herder. No biggie tho.

It pisses me off that the bannination process is, metaphorically, a lame duck. So what's new..

I'm annoyed with Creation being grey. It needs a lick of paint.

Can it be black with copper highlights?

Sorry Nolte, I was distracted by the return of Claris Dancer in Policy. I'll go respond... hey, that was an easy annoy to fix.

I'm annoyed that even the large scale Barbelith London drinks in the Plough are nowhere near their former late 90s/early 00s majesty. Where you could be guaranteed to meet several new and fascinating people at every one. I figure a lot of this is due to both the technical limitations and new member applications limitations - discussed to death in other threads - and the fact that the site is still semantically tied into the whole Invisibles thing and only attracting new posters trapped, like flies in amber, in that particular 90s occult time pocket (great in its time, but this is not its fucking time).

So, if you are a Barbelith poster or lurker, and you are based in London, come along to The Plough, Museum St, London, on the evening of Sunday 24 June (this Sunday) where a big Barbelith piss-up is taking place. For me, barbelith has always been more about the people who you meet in real life rather than just the text on the page - but it seems to have lost that aspect over the last few years as there are far fewer new members these days. It's a bit depressing, as what I really used to love about barbelith is going along to these drinks and meeting loads of new and interesting people. That was great. I want more of it,

...and? There was a comma there GL. Anyway, as a relative noob, it annoys me to no end seeing the vets harping on about "ooo it wuz so much better back in the glory days". It doesn't look like it to me, but then again I wasn't there. Then again, that "there" is still here (but for the Nexus, I believe?), in that we have it all archived, and all noobs can AND MUST read as much as possible of the gems there laid to rest.

So, in order to relieve some of your annoyance, I promise I'll make an appearance at the Barbethmeatspace currently under social construction at teh Plinth, Pluff or what have you.

Hmm... I'm not sure that's entirely what GL's saying, though. And it is a sad fact that the Barbemeets used to be more frequent and larger.

Anyhoo, I'll be looking forward to seeing you all there, and maybe we can rectify that.

Stoat, I should have it made it clearer that I was not serious about everyone who's been here for long harping etc. I was serious when I said all newcomers should read as much as possible back. I was also serious when I said I'd disclose my hairy self to (some of) you come Sunday.

Wow, what a coincidence! As a vet it annoys me no end that noobs don't realise "ooo it wuz so much better back in the glory days". We are so similar!

'salright. I feel a bit bad myself because I may (I repeat MAY) actually have a hot date on Sunday, and therefore may (I repeat, that's MAY as in "it's a slight possibility") not make it myself.

On the other hand, I'm Barbannoyed because I've been doing just that recently. And attempting to debate with posters who haven't been around for five years strikes me as pointless. But grrr. I really want to in a couple of cases.

I'm annoyed with the tension that comes between:

a. understanding that this board has been around for ages and that people don't want to retread the same old shit Time After Time.

b. wanting to have lively refreshing debate about topics that i haven't discussed with other people, while realising at the same time that, a.

I suppose you could think of Alex's Grandma as a sort of lethargic Batman figure, fighting perceived crimes after dark on the internet, soaked in gin; it's a relief, in a way, that the true monster behind the (forgettable) mask doesn't seem to come across that way, in person.

I don't know who I am, anymore?

Claris Dancer's crime statistics supporting the false reports of rape bollocks. Very near rage. Especially on the day it's reported that official crime figures are capped at 5 a year, so if you're targetted by someone repeatedly (like, say, an abusive partner) any reports after that aren't counted;

Violent crime is 82 per cent higher at 4.4 million offences compared with 2.4 million in the BCS, the survey claims, including a 156 per cent rise in " acquaintance violence" from 817,000 incidents to 2.1 million.

Domestic violence is 140 per cent higher, up from 357,000 incidents a year to 857,000, the authors said, while there are nearly three million common assaults a year rather than the 1.5 million estimated by the BCS, a rise of 98 per cent.
....
In particular, the system means that the most vulnerable people in society may not be getting the police protection they require from repeat offenders, the report said.
(my bold)

That phrase 'acquaintance violence is pretty chilling.

1: G&G. Everybody - everybody - knows that it's largely been a waste of time, barely anybody is prepared to try and do anything to change that.

2: The lack of any way to enact a board-wide decision to ban wankers as and when they appear.

3: Moderator lists consisting of people who deserted the board months (in some cases, years) ago.

4: I'm sorry to say this, honestly, but the fact that Tom pops in once in a blue moon to post to Comics, or FTV&T, or somewhere else, and apparently completely ignores Policy while he's logged in.

It's a big pile of shit and I'm fed up with it.
