Yeah...though in my defense, that Sunday night promo was filled with half-second scene cuts, and I believe went from Creepy Glasses' Bald Black Mental guy to...A-E's bald black estranged husband. It was an easy mistake...two bald guys of the same height, build, and age. All they need is to throw Taye Diggs in for a guest spot. Speaking of which, his upcoming "Groundhog Day meets 24" series on ABC (Daybreak) looks like it MIGHT be promising.
Okay, for one -- the narrator for this series has to go. The guy has an awful voice. He's just reading his cards and you can tell he's trying to give his voice that hushed sense of excitement, but it's not working. Shit, they should just hire Stan Lee to do it.
Has anyone noticed how the ends and beginnings of episodes don't match up? Like in the ep which ended with Claire on the autopsy table, she said "Oh shit," right before the cut to the credits. But in the opening of the next episode, her reaction to her situation was more subdued, and she didn't curse. Same with last night's -- the stuff Future Hiro said to Mimic-Guy (can't recall his name) at the end of last week's episode was not the same stuff he said in the beginning of last night's. It's a little distracting, but gives the show a comic book/serial feel.
Speaking of Future Hiro...his appearance turned out to be very anticlimatic. I'm not even sure WHY he had to show up, other than a cool hook to dig into viewers. So is Future Hiro from some alternate reality where he never got to talk to the artist, and New York was doomed?
Also not enjoying the mental cop's storyline. His wife is grating, and the couple's scenes make me feel like I'm watching "What Women Want" meets Felicity...probably because the actor (Greg Gunberg?) was actually IN Felicity.
And final criticism...how long do you think until we are all sick to death of the "save the cheerleader" tag? They even played it at the end of the credits! Seems like they are taking it/themselves a bit too seriously.
Other than that...Nathan's escape via flying was the coolest moment in the show yet. The promos kinda spoiled it, but damn...very cool. He's been practicing, I'd say. I also enjoyed how he promised to have Creepy Glasses and henchman killed.
Also, I would just like to say that Nathan and Hiro deserve their own sitcom. Those two were comedy gold together. "The Adventures of the Overeager Japanese and the Condescending American." It would be like a "Perfect Strangers" of the 21st Century...only with superpowers. |
