Modest hit? Great.

Now get a fucking hairdresser over Milo Ventamiglia's trailer.

Thanks for pointing this out ~ I watched #2 yesterday and #3 today and I'm enjoying it.

Re. spoilers, I'm in the "no insider or advance stuff." If I haven't seen the episode by Monday, I just don't read this thread 'til I've seen it.

I'm most curious about the black guy with the blank mind that Matt encounters in the bar. Syler? That seems a little too simple, but maybe it isn't. I'm a bit surprised that they're revealing the big bad wolves this early in the arc, though, and that makes me wonder what else is going on.

The cheerleader mom stuff doesn't bother me, but the fact that the kid slept for a hella long time did raise an eyebrow.

I think the black guy obviously works with Creepy Glasses. They have already known who our heroes are which is why he's able to block his thoughts from the telepathic cop.

Or is it just me?

Yeah -- I got the feeling the black guy was perhaps a Government agent or something. There to block out "mentat cop's" powers and subdue him so Creepy Glasses Guy can get hold of him.

I think Syler will be a new character...hell, maybe even Alter Ego Mom's husband, to make it all truly comic book-like.

I found the attempted-rape scene quite disturbing (which I'm sure it was meant to be, so that's a compliment to the drama) but also it seemed quite sudden in terms of character. That was the geeky camera guy, wasn't it, making out with her and then flipping? In a way it's quite powerful to have the nice, decent, geekyish guy suddenly turn into a fucking asshole but I just wanted to get it straight that this is what happened.

MattShepherd: I WEDDED KALI!

That was the quarterback, Wonderstarr -- the "boy she liked" from the earlier scene with her dad.

I can't help but notice, though, that the so-called "geek" certainly looks a lot cooler than any of the geeks (self included) I knew in high school. If she were hanging out with a fat zitty kid named Wally Finkel, I'd get much more of a charge out of the whole cheerleader/geek relationship.

Oh, my bad for watching it on download alongside other windows, instead of giving it proper "traditional-TV" attention. That was a silly mistake on my part.

I think that the guy in the bar being Sylar would be too obvious....I was thinking it was more likely that the black guy in the bar will turn out to be Alter Ego Mom's missing husband who perhaps has been co-opted by Creepy Glasses Man, perhaps in return for covering up the supposed murders he committed (if in fact he did that and not Alter Ego Mom)?

Kali, Queen of Kitteh
11:46 / 14.10.06
I rather like the idea that Sylar could turn out to be Alter Ego Mom's husband. Apparently there was a lingering camera shot of the top of the stairs at Alter Ego Mom's in-law's house but I didn't notice. See what I get for not paying excruciating attention?

Theory: I'm thinking Sylar is rather like Amazo in that he's got all the power of our main cast, patient zero, indeed. I also think the the only person that's going to be able to stop him is Peter, who'll be able to synch with Sylar's powers once he's close enough. At least that's what I'm hoping. Poor Peter needs his chance to shine.

Speaking of characters' chance to shine... I think I've been spoiled by Lost, but I hate that every episode (so far) tries to focus on all the characters. I like the more character centric episodes, this would give the show a much needed chance to develop it's characters.

Someone posited that Peter's power is sort of like Rogue: he only has them when close to someone who does.

Exactly, and once he gets close to Sylar he'll have all his powers.

Which would make Peter crucial to the storyline, huh? Because right now I am the least impressed with him.

Surely Sylar steals people's abilities by eating their brains?

I mean, that's what I want to see.

As if the freezing people thing wasn't cool enough.

I will abide by the rules of this thread but I am actively seeking spoilers. The ones I'm finding are maddeningly vague and no help to me whatsoever.

Spoilers for Episode Four (Should be clear under the current policy, but just in case)

Future Hiro! Sometimes I wonder if they're just thinking about moments that will make the 'geek' audience love this show, but even if that's the case, it's working. That final moment was amazing. I reviewed the episode here on my blog, but to sum up, I think this is the best episode yet. The convergence of storylines allowed for more time and depth with each, and Niki in particular worked really well. After knocking her last week, she turned out to be the most interesting character of this episode.

The series is great already, but I'm more and more confident with each episode that we're looking at something that could one day be on the same level as a Buffy or Angel.

Future Hiro was awfully rad. I especially liked the line: "Peter Petrelli? I'm sorry, I didn't recognise you without your scar."

And yes, finally Alter Ego Mom gets interesting.

I dunno how I feel about the whole "save the cheerleader, save the world" thing, though.

I agree -- great episode. See, I kept saying the Alter Ego mom was an interesting character. Though I am a bit let down that her alter ego isn't some sort of Hulk monster...which is what was implied in the garage scene in the first episode. Who knows, maybe she has different levels of alter ego-ness?

Future Hiro was a great scene. And did anyone notice his costume? Yet another geek moment. Regular narrative Hiro wants a costume, and Future Hiro has one -- looks to be a ninja suit complete with sword. Plus he lost the glasses and the soul patch.

But a time-traveling Hiro really disrupts everything. This would mean he has godlike powers, and could divert anything from happening. Hence, if Future Hiro knows that Sylar is around now, he could come back and stop him before he even began murdering. But I'm sure this will be answered someday soon...maybe traveling in the past takes a lot out of Hiro, it was a one-time thing, etc.

Re: Future Hiro...did my eyes decieve me, but was he dressed in black with a sword on his back? Perhaps that was just a railing, but that's what it looked like to me. If so... guh, that kind of ruins it for me.

Another thing that occured to me last night...

Remember that video of Cheerleader Girl from the pilot episode, which displayed her abilities? Her father ended up having it, and I'm hoping this isn't going to be some toss-off scene, because really, how did he get the video?

Remember Cheerleader's nerd friend who taped it claimed it was stolen from his bag. I'm wondering who Creepy Father has in his employ who could sneak into a high school and lift something out of some kid's backpack. Though of course the most obvious answer would be that the nerdy kid himself is working for Creepy Dad.

I'm guessing that the AV club kid outed her by putting the video up on You Tube.

And, Keith, there's nothing wrong with Future Hiro having a sword. Unless of course you're allergic to awesome.

SPOILERY. DON'T READ. DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT.

Other than Future Hiro (one more vote for awesome!) and the visual way they did the painter's mind while on heroin, was I the only one floored by the way Claire dealt with rapist-jock-boy?

END SPOILER

Yeah, that was a great sequence, even if it was kinda ruined in last week's promo. Though I'd really forgotten about that promo last night...that is, until she asked to drive Rapist Jock's car.

Speaking of which...the opening of the episode, the autopsy scene, was disturbing. But here's the thing...and I hope I don't come off as morbidly lecherous as I fear...but where were her breasts in the camera pan up? You know, when she was pushing herself back together. Though maybe the shot only went up to her sternum or so? I can't recall, but I remember the camera panning up to her face in that gruesome scene. Or are autopsies done with some sort of tri-cut on the sternum/rib cage, or other such stuff I really don't want to think about?

Anyway Future Hiro was very cool. Looking forward to more of him next week. This might promise that some season the Heroes will be a costumed fighting force.

Thanks for reminding me about the tripping-painting scene. That was very well done, one of the visual highlights of the series yet.

I wondered about Cheerleader's breasts also. But not in a pervy way.

Never thought about Nerdeo being in Creepy Glasses' employ. I like. Another misdirection like Pixie.

I'm really intrigued by what Blocking Your Thoughts Guy did to Matt.

Yeah, this episode was way better. I think the show is coming into its own and the actors are getting comfortable with their roles. The acting isn't that bad anymore. I do think part of the improvement comes from the fact that the characters have started to interact with each other.

Lets hope this does get to Angel levels of awesome.

I'm allergic to Hiro -> Japanese -> Ninja.

Kali, Queen of Kitteh

Let's not assume he's a ninja. It's been painfully clear that Hiro is a geek and what geek with superpowers wouldn't want to style himself as something so obvious as a ninja?

Jack Fear
18:36 / 17.10.06
Zackly. Hiro doesn't kit himself out with a samurai sword just because he's Japanese: he kits himself out with a samurai sword 'cause he's a Rob Liefeld fan.

Once again, Jack Fear speaks strong truth.

Hiro seems to be a bit more of a pre-Liefeld X-Men fan. I'd completely buy him showing up in an outlandish X-Men style costume, but the Japanese guy turning into a ninja guy with a sword (I mean...a sword?!?!) is just a bit too close to cliche for me. It just strikes me as the lazy "The Asian guy? He automatically knows martial arts!" movie and television type casting.

Considering this is the first we've seen of this, let's not put the cart before the horse just yet, okay?

I agree to a point...Hiro becoming a ninja in the future would be analogous to another hero being from Texas, and upon gaining his powers, taking up the garb of a cowboy for his costume.

But if there's one thing I learned from growing up in the '80s, it's that ninjas are cool.

We might be getting ahead of ourseleves, though. The camera angle made it tough to tell if that was really a sword on Hiro's back, plus just because he was wearing a black suit doesn't mean it was a ninja get-up.
