Hmmmm.....

Robin's gang will star Gordon Kennedy as Little John; Sam Troughton as Robin's loyal manservant Much; Harry Lloyd as Will Scarlett; Joe Armstrong as Allan-a-Dale; and William Beck as Roy.

Roy? Roy?! Are Allan-a-dale and Roy previously neglected parts of the Robin Hood mythos? Where's Tuck? And who wants to play compare and contrast between Keith Allen and Nickolas Grace?

Allan-a-Dale's the minstrel, you div. He's totally canon. Did you honestly never read Roger Lancelyn Green's The Adventures of Robin Hood over and over when you were a child?

Roy I have no idea about.

P.S. I wonder whose son writer Dominic Minghella could possibly be?

Ooh, hadn't heard about this before. Roy, eh? Bet it's a king in disguise.

Gypsy Lantern
11:53 / 11.07.06
Wasn't Roy one of the Daleks from the last episode? The shifty one that followed Steve around? (That's Steve the Dalek, not that Steve... Unless that Steve was secretly a Dalek, which would make Roy his wingman. But according to that website, Roy is supposed to be Robin Hood's wingman, so unless Steve is both Robin Hood and a Dalek - which is immanently possible - we're in trouble).

The important fact being overlooked here is that Billie has left Dr Who to play Sally Lockhart in a BBC adaptation of the Philip Pullman books, starting with "The Ruby in the Smoke". I think she is perfectly cast as Sally Lockhart, and I reckon the BBC could probably do a good job of those books if it's in the right hands. I preferred the Sally Lockhart stories to 'His Dark Materials' myself.

As long as they don't give her insane amounts of eye make-up and blusher, I'm in. We don't want Sally painted like a common trollop, do we?

Kali. If you want to thank me then stop all this spoiler-reading nonsense, download the episode and do one thing for me.

That's all.
One thing.

Have a good time.
Do that for me, Kali.

Have a fantastic time.

And for one minute, I feel like Rose Tyler.

Coooool.

Just watched "Doomsday."

The ending just suckerpunched me. I'm sniffling as I type this. I feel like my heart's been ripped out.

David Tennant, I totally accept you as the Doctor now.

Having seen a Flickr pic a month or two ago and one of Anna's recent ones, I am soooo tempted to do a "compare and contrast" right now, but feel I should wait till teh booze subsides.

I think Tennant's sporting the Haus look, to be fair.

At the risk of sounding, well, a bit overly curious, might I see Haus as Tennant?

Haus? Would you oblige me?

Murray Gold's excellent soundtrack is to be released soonly. I hope the compositions from TIP/Satan Pit and School Reunion make appearances.

We're pleased to tell you that Murray Gold's wonderful soundtrack to Doctor Who will be making its way to CD in the near future.

BBC Worldwide are working with the composer to release the highlights from his Doctor Who scores on CD.

While we don't have a release date, we felt we'd tell you as soon as possible. Thanks to everyone for the deluge of emails about the "singy lady", the "beach thing (i cried)", the "Christmas song", and, of course, the theme courtesy of the National Orchestra of Wales.

If you're quick, look here, at 6:00 pm and midnight there's a Doctor Who audio version, the aborted 4th Doctor story 'Shada', originally by Douglas Adams, rewritten as a 8th Doctor story with Paul McGann's Doctor, Romana and K9. It's updated every sunday though, so episode one will be replaced later tomorrow...

Only 163 days to go until the next new Dr Who story...

If, like my girlfriend, you work in central Cardiff, you could have looked out of an upper storey window onto St Mary Street around 6pm today and seen Dave Himself, plus the Tate woman and hordes of crew trying to stop people from gawping and wandering into shot. I wasn't present so this is hearsay, but David Tennant apparently looked very uncomfortable in his nice brown suit on one of Wales's hotter summer days. (Not half as uncomfortable as the extras who were wearing furry hats and winter coats, for some yet to be established reason.)

There may have been squeeing. She refuses to be drawn...

Haus, I still want to see your Tennant face.

What is a "Lenticular Postcard " exactly?

Kali, Queen of Kitteh
14:59 / 25.07.06
A postcard that observes Lent, perhaps?

Kali, Queen of Kitteh
15:03 / 25.07.06
Instead of throwing lenticular postcards away, people tend to "play" with them, keep them, and show them around. So the response can keep coming in over a long period of time.

In addition, lenticular flip or motion or 3D postcards are memorable. The message-retention rate is at least three times that of a standard postcard with a similar design

Oh. Essentially, a 3-D postcard, but it being the Doctor, saying "3-D" isn't Who enough.

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
15:27 / 25.07.06
Yeah, lenticular cards are either 3-D or those ones where the picture moves when you tilt them. I think they're both called "lenticular".

Have only, care of Our Lady, just seen the final ep.

Damn yooouuuuuuu RTD, I cried like a baaaaby and am typing through the sniffling.

Reading through the thread, most of what I'd say has been covered so,

care of Sax

I blubbed

Have just finished watching it and am tearytearyteary. Flowers is making me, in keeping with the RTD soapyness, a nice cup of tea, and I'm sure I'll be alright. Eventually.

from Flyboy:

I think the important thing is we spend more time picking apart the various plot holes than understanding the emotional rightness of Rose's dad coming back to save her. And after all, Doctor Who has always had the rigorous internal consistency that all hard sci-fi needs.

Well yes. Emotional punch, bags of action, some laugh out loud humour, space for speculation and a prog thats a superb piece of television and references/is aware of the context in which it appears, both in terms of Wholiganism and TV culture.... that's what I expect from RTD Doctor Who, and that's what I got.

Iamus' posts=teh lovely.

*Goes off to drink soothing tea*

On watching the series again with a little distance I'm surprised by how my opinions I've changed. I still dislike the first episode but otherwise I, to varying degrees, like/love the rest of them (although I haven't made it to Fear Her yet).

The season 2 repeats on BBC 3 are hugely welcome. The superfluous "The Satan Pit" was on earlier this evening. The revelation that the followers of light prepared the pit for the Doctor and the ensuing denouement continue to make little sense, but hell, it doesn't matter when the rest of the episode is sp spectacular. The music, the emotional pay-off The Doctor, Rose, and even the lighting in the TARDIS at the end are all brilliant and overshadow the shaky intricacies of the preceeding plot.

I foresee liking "Fear Her" a little less second time around, and I'm really looking forward to the finalé (again). I hope we get a trailer for Torchwood at the end of this run of season 2.

One last thing, relating to Robin Hood as discussed up-thread. It has been reported by the Beeb, that the only existing mastertapes have been stolen by a member of cast (reportedly some extra) and are being held ransom for...one million pounds (insert stolid Dr Evil impression here).
