Has anyone figured out what hell DC is on about with the "52" references yet? First there was that one in Legion of Super-Heroes awhile back, and then the most recent issue of Green Lantern (which has been good) had the Guardians using a spoken "52" to vote on something...

oh sorry, Benjamin asked this question previously Also, Green Lantern dropped some weird 52 hints. The Guardians are holding off on questioning Superboy Prime about something about important. There's a sector in space that they refuse to assign a Lantern to. The reason is, in their words, "52."

Didn't notice it because no one really answered. It's very weird.

One of my friends suggested that '52" is the number of seconds that passed between the destruction of the pre-crisis universe and the reforming of the new one... A missing near-minute that has caused several time anomalies like the ones Booster Gold and Rip Hunter are experiencing.

As good a guess as any.

Yeah..."POWER BOY"?!?! Complete with a collarbone-showing circle to mirror Power Girl's ridiculous cleavage oval?? Just weird.

What if all the new (new) teen titans are actually survivors of the other earths seen in IC when Alex Luthor recreated the infinite earths? It wouldn't explain why there aren't more survivors, but it brings some credibility to all those kids showing up out of nowhere... maybe they're from Earth-8? or Earth-52?

I like that idea...

I know at least one New-New Teen Titan is from another Earth- Earth 3 to be exact- Talon, the Robin to Owlman's Batman, who is apparently not evil. Power Boy is supposed to have some sort of 'shocking secret origin', so I wouldn't be surprised if his origin is similar to Power Girl's.

There's a fairly big hint that Power Boy is from Apokalips. So he's probably the son of someone from the 4th World.

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy

P"H"E"X: I know at least one New-New Teen Titan is from another Earth- Earth 3 to be exact- Talon, the Robin to Owlman's Batman, who is apparently not evil.

Wonder if this means that he's Earth-3's morally-reversed Jason Todd.

Power Boy is supposed to have some sort of 'shocking secret origin', so I wouldn't be surprised if his origin is similar to Power Girl's.

I gathered from 52 that Power Boy was from Apokolips, or possibly New Genesis; he's about to take a part of Darkseid's anatomy in vein (ick), and matter-thresholds out with Little Barda. Or hush-tubes. Or whatever.

Zatara is, apparently, Zee's cousin Zachary, and he got really famous while nobody was looking.

By and large, I'm enjoying the Young Avengers & Runaways' subverted legacy approach to the current sub-par Teen Titans stuff.

But, well. Ralph in the Nether-Realms! With old-buddy-Fate! His mania's finally reaching a breaking point and I have to ask: if the Tenth Age of Magic is predicated on the idea that "Magic has consequences," then why is Ralph using Fate's helmet to descend into the Underworld for Sue? You know, upsetting the natural balance by resurrecting his dead wife without apparently thinking about those consequences? And Fate's just letting him do it, apparently as part of Ralph's apprenticeship to being the new Fate.

Methinks: the whole thing's going to blow up in Ralph's face, and this is Fate's way of teaching him this most fundamental law: if you mess with the natural order, you will be punished. I'm assuming Zombie Sue trying to take over the world and it all just sounds like that weird, stupid Kid Eternity in the Teen Titans thing that happened before Infinite Crisis.

In other words: Dammit, I want the end result to be that the new Doctor Fate? Sue Dibny, reborn from the Pit with her husband Ralph imprisoned in her Tower, unable to leave as a consequence of resurrecting her.

And then everybody can freak out, thinking she's Inza, and assume she's going to turn the government into newts again or something.

One possibility is that Fate is using Ralph for it's own purposes, and the Sue thing is a useful side effect.

Another possibility is that the rules are the same for the Helm... the price for getting Ralph's help is giving him a chance at Sue.

It's pretty unclear. The only thing I do know is that Doctor Fate cameoed in the first issue of "Trials of Shazam", and assuming that Porter had accurate info (after the Shadowpact mess, we can't be sure) the host is male.

52.

"Why, Doc, we only just met! Shall we tango or move directly to the boudoir?"

Doc Magnus gets fresh with Mercury. Shortly before they're attacked by hacked, unregistered Metal Men clones and a Sentinel.

And Super-Chief!

Too bad that stupid Steel plotline had to start off the issue.

A very interesting theory on the Newsarama boards. I really like the idea even if it does seem a bit far fetched...

(speculative spoilers, I suppose...)

Supernova is...Ambush Bug??

Signs point to yes! Also, boy do I like Ambush Bug's shirt.

Supernova is...Ambush Bug??

If so, his behaviour has been totally out of character. Even for a whackjob like Ambush Bug.

Most likely (given his ability to destroy mass) Supernova is Legion's Starboy (as predicted in Robinson's Starman series).

So the Daily Planet web page for 52 has been up since before the series started, and has always been written to seem 'in universe' as it were.

I kind of liked this, the idea that there might be clues to the plot there, not spoonfed like a newsarama press release, but handled like an eye witness account of what was happening in the story. Viral marketing, I will admit, has worked on me since the game that was an ad for A.I.

The guys at DC need to keep a closer eye on their site though.

Here is a Daily Planet story talking about a book being written in the DC universe about the events of the Infinite Crisis, claiming that many think it is 'too soon' for such things. Ok, I'm there, someone within continuity wrote a book about the world almost ending. I figured there was a likelyhood this would get mentioned in the comic somehwere and tie things together.

If you go here you can read a PDF excerpt of the novel. Even better, I thought, they had someone write up this exerpt to 'keep it real' as it were. The problem is that it features Superman and Batman calling each other Bruce and Clark.

Now I realize this is something petty to be annoyed with, but attention to detail when sculpting a fictional page is so important to me, this rubs me the wrong way.

Reading over this before posting I almost didn't post, because it is nearly too nerdy for me...

Thank you Mario, I had not realized there was an actual novelization in the making. Why someone would read that and not a trade paperback is beyond me though.

And the 7th titan appears to be Red Star. He's really the only "missing year" member who fits.

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy

Well, the latest 52 was slightly less depressing. I've got to wonder who's pulling the strings of the mad scientists - is it a parallel universe "mad scientist" Lex Luthor, or the regular Lex Luthor, or Brainiac, or Ozymandias? Doc's confusion and dawning realizations were fun.

Osiris neatly sidesteps Freddy's "CM3" problem and nods to the fact that Amon is as much his sister's brother as he is Black Adam's brother-in-law. And, finally, someone actually refers to Charlie as the Question. I'm trying to decide if Charlie's reaction to the beating is supposed to be in line with Ditko's Randian take on the character, but I don't know enough about Rand at the moment to comment properly.

Next issue looks to be Alix-riffic! Woot.

The New Year begins with the deadliest day Metropolis has ever seen — and by the end of the month a villain will stand revealed, a hero will fall in the outer reaches of the galaxy…and the reveal of Supernova will deepen his mysteries even further.

Wow. Lex Luthor is REALLY an asshole.
