Yeah I was referring to the textbook illustration of the Joker, pretty much Bolland's best drawing ever.

Since Natasha Irons' power signature logo/icon/thingie around her hands when she goes to town on her Uncle John looks a lot like Supernova's chest logo, and they make sure to tell you that eyewitnesses aren't sure if it's a male or female, maybe she's Supernova...?

Is Clark depowered during 52? I don't read any of the Superman books, but I thought he was just taking time off for a year. What is the deal with his line about not being good at shaving?

Phex: Dorset Doom
21:59 / 25.07.06
Yep, he's de-powered. Read Kurt Busiek's excellent 'Up, up and Away!' for the story of how Supes get his groove back. It'll be in Trade-paperback soon.

The problem with the Natasha = Supernova theory is that Supernova showed up before she got the treatment. That, and Wizard revealed a while ago that her supername is "Lumina"

He also has heroes named:

Ultimate Man
Trajectory
Herakles
Omnivore
Reaver

One assumes he chose the names...

Omnivore?

Could this be a bold reimagining of Matter Eater Lad?

Possibly. But think "acronymically".

I'd like to think it's just some bored bloke in a back office coming up with the names, and future subjects will spell out -I-S-A-K-N-O-B

That scene with the Cult of Resurrected Super-People getting the effigy/scarecrow/mannequin of Sue Dibny ready for some wacko resurrection ritual was sure creeeeepy. Will we get a "Monkey's Paw" Sue Dibny? Or happily-ever-after-returned Sue (wait for it).... [said in movie trailer voice] ONE! YEAR !! LATER!!!!

What I find more creepy was the hint that Black Adam and Adrianna - now Isis - will get romantically involved. Isn't Adrianna all of 13 -14 years old? If memory serves, she was introduced as a thirteen year old virgin, given to Black Adam as gift from a bunch of slaver cronies trying to curry favor.

Are you quite sure? I've not checked, but I remeber her being introduced as 'the most beautfullest girl in all Egypt, but with a Polish name', with no mention of her age. I may be wrong however, and it would be icky, and also a bit like Mary Marvel.

Pooky Is Just My Pornstar Name

Nope, I'm not sure. That's why I said, "If memory serves." I don't have the comic with me now, but I'll check when I get home. Personally, I think this echoes more the Arisia/Hal Jordan relationship than the Mary Marvel one. But then again, I'm not really all that au fait with the Shazam family anyway.

The Falcon
18:45 / 27.07.06
I checked, and there's no mention. I only mentioned Mary Marvel because she's a young girl who transforms into a busty woman, but seeing it's actually pretty much wholly unrelated, there seems little point continuing.

I really loved the depiction of Captain Marvel barely holding on to his sanity.

Also the newest Wizard claimed that Morrison will be bringing Lobo into 52 in five weeks.

Billy Batshit.

Yeah, Lobo's on the cover of something like #16-17.

I especially liked the line "I've already crushed Greed's face, and it'll take FOREVER to grow back."

Something tells me he means this quite literally; that sitting at the Rock of Eternity means "forevers" are like centuries to us!

Also, I remember having an Isis comic when I was a kid--I don't remember much, other than it involved a female archeologist who could turn into Isis with a few words. Otherwise seemed a lot like Wonder Woman. The crazy thing is I forgot about that comic until I saw this week's cover of 52, and then the memory flooded back.

and yes, that would be the 1976 DC series based on the television show--makes me feel old.

I need a quick reminder on the Billy/Marvel front.

Didn't Mary return to normal kid status when the wizard was killed? Was there an explanation why some of the Marvel Fam stayed super and others turned human?

I didn't read all the 8C tie ins so I may have missed something obvious.

Also,

the WW origin pamphlet at the back of the issue felt really weak.

Weaker then the History... backups for sure.

The Falcon

Dude, nothing in the history of comics was weaker than the Jurgens backups. Zero Hour is worse, but Dan Jurgens reprising his own Zero Hour is weaker than thin water.

Reading the 52 blog, these seems to be some kind of connection between Ralph's story and Osiris? Did I miss something?

Professor Silly
00:15 / 28.07.06
Well, at the end of the issue Isis mentioned the need to find her brother (which I assume refers to her brother/husband Osiris)...

...who's the God of Resurrection in Egyptian mythos...and the Superboy cult seems obsessed with resurrection...yeah, that's starting to make a lot of sense.

Since my comics are all packed at the moment, can anyone tell me if the words 'Lazarus' and 'Pit' have been uttered in '52' as of yet? With the resurrections and Whisper O'Whatserface it would seem to be a reasonable direction, but I don't recall anyone making a connection to/in that direction.

It was in the Locke/Hatch/Rip Hunter spread. "The Lazarus Pit Will Rise". Or some such shit.

This month's Wizard also stated that Black Adam and Isis would marry in issue #15. Not sure if this is a joke or not, as that the write up initially talked about the upcoming Storm/Black Panther wedding and then segued into mentioning Black Adam and Isis.

Didn't Mary return to normal kid status when the wizard was killed? Was there an explanation why some of the Marvel Fam stayed super and others turned human?

The Day of Vengeance one-shot ended with Zatanna reforming the shattered Rock of Eternity and informing Cap/Billy that he had no choice but to remain there forever, replacing Shazam as the Rock's mystical anchor lest it fly apart again. If Mary and Cap Jr. were mentioned it's slipped my mind. However, the online preview of the upcoming Shazam series seems to show the two of them losing their powers mid-action sequence, while Billy, who's mysteriously out fighting a giant in the snow somewhere rather than hanging around in the Rock (maybe he's somehow released during the year of 52?), becomes suddenly much more powerful. Seems likely that he gains their powers in addition to his own, but it it isn't clear why it happens later instead of right when Shazam died.

Well, at the end of the issue Isis mentioned the need to find her brother (which I assume refers to her brother/husband Osiris)...

I thought she was talking about her (Adrianna's) brother who was sold into slavery by Intergang...

Looks like Isis was referring to Amoun, not Osiris. Amoun, or Amon, or however you spell it, represents a creator god in Egyptian mythos--specifically Amoun formed the Earth on a celestial potter's wheel. Mostly he's referred to as Amoun-Ra, king of the gods.

...interesting....

From Newsarama's coverage of the DC Nation panel: Johns added that around issue #30, Morrison is writing a full issue of 52 featuring Bruace Wayne, Tim Drake, and Dick Grayson.
