Yeah, it is odd that Grant doesn't do the commentaries. I believe he described the experience as like fucking an eel, something that was fun once, but would be crazy to try again, so it wasn't a bad experience, but was likely more draining than expected. Still, I'm guessing it's more a time issue than some kind of vendetta against the project.

Those commentaries are pretty cool, and have given some useful information, like why the Bulleteer here doesn't match the way she was portrayed in Seven Soldiers #1.

As for the series as a whole, I've been reading it in trade and love it. I'd imagine the pacing works even better in trade, because you don't go weeks without the storylines you're interested in. Each issue just felt more substantial than those ultradecompressed six parters Marvel is so fond of. There was room for a lot of character development and narrative digressions that you wouldn't have in a monthly book. I really care about all the characters who would previously have just been random DC people.

I love the stuff that Morrison did, but I liked the other stuff a lot as well. As people above have said, the only clunker plot was the Steel and Infinity Inc. storyline, but when you read it in trade, that goes by pretty quick, and for me, the good stuff far outweighs the few week moments.

Black Adam, the Crime Bible, and, let's be honest, much of the heroes-in-space stuff once you stop going "Yay! Animal Man!"

You're not supposed to stop going "Hey! Animal Man!"

It's what got me all the way through 52. That, and delirious entertainment crystalizing from the realization that the Crime Bible stuff wasn't really going anywhere sensible but would still take the time to get there. The Question and Batwoman as an inexplicable, plotless, nigh pointless super-duo in the making. Three badass posing shots of them, raygun and batarang drawn, and I think I would've actually paid for it all. Exept the Luthor/Steel stuff. I'd expect that to be discounted from my purchase.

You'd think after the success of Catwoman that they wouldn't be afraid to put out something like Question/Batwoman sans "Crime Bible" crap. I mean, really. Batwoman practically screams for some nuance (too bad it'll probably include a sexual sssault in her background) and Renee's become a very enticing character.

I've really enjoyed Black Adam so far, perhaps things go down hill towards the end, but he's got that Magneto circa X-Men 200 vibe going on. Yes, there is some cheesiness in the interaction with Isis and Osiris, they're all so perfect, something bad is inevitably going to happen. But, inevitability is a part of every tragedy.

As is a great big fuck-off hungry crocodile.

CHORUS:

This time we shall say.
Many are the deeds of the gods.
Some we understand, and some we do not.
Fuck me, a gigantic crocodile.

I was the only one going "Yay! Lobo!" wasn't I?

This line also applicable to Lost Girls.

Oddly, the Steel/Luthor arc didn't bother me more than, well, most other comics do. The awkward forced "teen angst" arguments were dumb, sure, but comic-book dumb, and I'm a sucker for stories with lots and lots of super-powered people in them.
