>> the art seemed rather uneven in several parts of the book this issue. Not as tight as previous issues.

Yeah, Chris Batista, who did a nice job with his JLA story just before Infinite Crisis (and also drew some very good Legion and Hawkman issues back pre-IC), put forth some pretty rushed work with issue/week 5 ...in some cases it looks like he just inked Giffen's breakdowns. I thought that when I read it and then I saw that online reviewers had the same thought.

Well this week was one of the more engaging reads for this series.

The Big 10 vs. Green Lanturns.

Booster Gold seems to be slipping

much better art than last issue.

How is the Tangent GL explained, really? when Tangent came out, there was no multiverse... did Hypertime tie it all in somehow? (don't mean to sidetrack)

The Tangent Universe showed up as an alternate universe during 8C. Me, I just go with it, and don't think to hard about the cosmology.

At the end of 8C, don't they show 2 kids finding the Tangent Universe/Great 10 lantern on a beach somewhere?

Yep, which is why I think there may be a connection.

OK I've been thinking about the Tibetan character (Thundermind which I assume to be a reference to the Dorje/ Dharma strikes like lightning bit) and the flap about how the Chinese government would not use that image. I disagree. It seems like the Chinese authorities are more than willing to co-opt Tibetan culture as it suits them. They're not going to allow The Dalai Lama into China or even Lhasa, but they still have operating monasteries that are used by the government to try to show how accepting they are of Tibetan culture. They even kidnapped the Panchen Lama to install him as a sort of pseudo- Dalai Lama.

It's a sham, but I think that they would like to present the idea that Tibetan culture and "Chinese" (not sure of all the different ethnicities but I know a Uigher from a Han fom a Tibetan and that's it)culture are one in the same.

Just my two cents.

Makes total sense. Thundermind=tokenism. There could be some fun stories deriving from that being a metaphor for comic book tokenism (The Sue Storm Syndrome) as another layer to the political intrigue going on by having a Tibetan super-hero in the group.

I had assumed Ali-Ka-Zoom was visiting Zatanna, as a reference to Seven Soldiers.

I had thought the same till I check out Kieth Giffen's breakdown which reference that character as SHINING KNIGHT with a side note "no horse, it's a hopital!"

carry on.

Tokenism. Yeah, that's what I was gettin' at.

There's previews available for September at Newsarama
They're not descriptions of issues so much as little teaser quotes:

WEEK 18: "Ralph, we’re the CROATOANS. We found Shakespeare’s GHOSTWRITER, we can find one of our own GUYS." (Limbo Town is back!) Plus, The Origin of The Question by Waid and Joe Bennett!
WEEK 19: "What if I told you I could — using Booster’s DNA— bioengineer a superhero identity for you?" Plus, the Origin of Animal Man by Waid and Brian Bolland!
WEEK 20: "Adam’s right, Kory. This is way too big for the three of us." Plus, the Origin of Adam Strange by Waid and Kevin Nowlan.
WEEK 21: "No disrespect, Raven, but we’re as much Infinity Inc. as you are Titans. Neither team is the same one it used to be." Special full-length story!

There's also a preview for Justice League of America #2 which (pretty much) reveals the new team in one of those good ol' DC blacked-out covers.

This may be a post without heroes, but it's not a post without SPOILERS!

Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman (Donna Troy?), Green Arrow, Martian Manhunter, Hawkman (or girl?) and Green Lantern (I'm guessing Hal from the outline of the hair) are all in. There's three figures I can't identify: the one with GA's arrow pointed at her (Black Canary maybe?), the one between Martian' and GA (male, can fly) and the other female figure next to Hawkmangirl's mace.
I know this should really go in the OYL thread, or it's own thread seeing as its the Justice League and all, but any idea who these sillohuettes belong to?

The one you think is MM is probably Red Tornado.

Ponytail woman is possibly Manhunter, flying guy is probably Captain Atom, and flying woman may be Vixen or Alix Harrower.

Given the persistent rumors about one of the 7S being on the new JLA, I'd say Alix. I'd hope Alix at least.

And to remain on topic:

I'm really pleased to see 7S stuff continually popping up in 52. I hope the trent of keeping that stuff in continuity continues. Although, at this rate 52 week 52 will be out before 7s #1 is.

I've got a hunch that Skeets is somehow complicit in all this. And the end of this issue it seems as if all the arrows and the "he's to blame" stuff was actually pointing to Skeets and not Booster.

I think he's going to turn eeevil and Booster will be shown to be his unfortunate pawn, manipulated by greed.

also, what d'you think's going to happen with that metamorphosing genetically modified catterpillar in the tube from a couple of issues back?

Totally, totally agree. Been worried about this.

I hope to God that if Skeets does turn out to be _a_ - if not *the* - baddie that it can all be forgotten and ze's badness can be deprogrammed, or something. Skeets is a proper great sidekick, and Booster wouldn't be half as good without hir.

One day I might have to give it up for the good of my health, but for now...

No clue??

(Sorry, I've only read one issue of this comic, just to check out the Chinese heroes -- and the socialist bureacracy gag was kinda funny, although it seemed a little predictable in the larger scheme of things, but still. Oh, and the reference to Ghost Fox Country makes me think Mr. Morrison's been hanging out on either our wiki or in the Temple. Or else, you know, just one of those Reynardian synchronicities.)

Mister Mind is one of the Big Famous Villains -- he's from Captain Marvel. I think he was the longest-running villain in that title in its heyday. The Big Red Cheese spent many an issue fighting a long series of monstrous creations that were all being sent by one mysterious mastermind. The big reveal at the end is that the proto-level-boss behind all the baddies is a little worm. With a big brain. Who could speak in a special code. And had conquered planets with his mighty mind-control powers.

He's the leader of the Monster Society of Evil, which, if you read the incredibly informative and well-illustrated article behind that link, you'll learn also included Black Adam on its roster.

No mention of the Doctor Who reference on the chalkboard in the Time Bunker (as I have decided to call it)?

I like the idea that Skeets was in all the pictures and he might be who the arrows are pointing at.

I DONT like that "The 52" is going to become something the characters start referring to, it feels somehow cheap to me.

Skeets as a baddie would certainly seem to tie in with Morrow's repeated references to the machine people of the future.

Some interesting scrawls on that Time Bunker chalkboard. Does "What happened to the son of Superman?" ring any bells for anyone? I know that we're not supposed to talk about the Hypertime thing anymore, but I immediately thought of Sunshine Superman from the last issue of Kingdom (in which Rip Hunter also appeared).

well, there was that, and there was also a SuperBaby in a Joe Kelly-written story arc that featured the Earth-2 evil JLA....it seems that Ultraman and Superwoman had a baby that tumbled through a dimensional wormhole and our Supes and Lois found it.

something about finding "the last El" on there also, suggesting descendants of Supes.

Also "Who is Diana Prince" which is (I think) the names Wonder Woman went by in the now defunct continuity. Maybe.

Stupid being at work, I don't have the issue here, but the chalk board seemed to have the clues for the rest of the series uber-plot.

The Diana Prince alias only made its (reappearance) a few weeks ago in the new Alan Heinberg-written title. Prior to that she'd been just Diana, no secret ID, for many, many years (pretty much since her post-Crisis revamp).

Sonic Disrupter, Time Master and Time Servant are, to me, Dr Who references.

Keep in mind I had watched Rememberence of The Daleks just prior to reading...

It was his right hand that got bitten by the General, and it didn't get bitten off. He even says "Almost bit my hand off. I'm trying not to think about it."

Hmm, but it was the suit's hand lending credence to that theory.

Just picked up #5-7 today, back from hols, really very enjoyable still although some of the art's a bit pish.

So Kate Kane makes her appearance.

Ralph Dibney is looking like a wreak.

Manthrax's revenge. A somewhat appropiate nemesis for Booster.
