There's a weird quirk with the game -- if you log out, go do something for a while, then log back in, it'll automatically load up the last character to be used from that computer, regardless of the user name/pw you log in with.

I notice this because my stepson, who has a handful of characters, seems to have bought Alan Burgroft "Vigour Mortis" with his experience points, believing old Alan to be one of his characters.

Hmm.

Regardless, he's hanging around in Banbury Square, immediately S of the SW corner of the zoo in Ketchelbank, between two NecroTech buildings (they're catty-corner from each other), awaiting revivification and munching on zombie heads.

Raul B Grafton is shambling north from Wykewood, towards Quarlesbank across town. Made it as far as Bently Drive, Reganstown. Help Dr. Grafton! He has a pistol clip! He knows First Aid!

By the way, I suppose it's not possible to loot corpses, is it?

It's a thing between your cookies and the game. You either need to click logout manually or delete your cookies. Proactive stepson you've got there. The zombie overmind approves!

You can't rob the dead. Yet.

By the by, as it's been a while can I ask you guys to take a quick shufty at the Wiki and update your character details, if needed. Ears.

Yeah, there's stuff in the FAQ about the logging out/cookies thing... the FAQ says it's an IE issue, but I get with with Firefox too.

The PKs have all vanished from my safe house... but so have the barricades. I think I slept through a major firefight.

People mentioned the power stations becoming key locations to keep control of/secure when the game is further into development. Let me just riff on that for a moment.

At the moment the game is open-ended (or no-ended) as there isn't a defined goal to reach for beyond survival and not even that is concrete as failiure to survive just shifts you to another play mode, and even that can be reversed/side-stepped.

I would love it if objectives and key locations were introduced into Urban Dead that players could organise around and complete. Centring around the theme of survival, what do people need? Food and shelter.

So, you start by requiring people to raid supermarkets and pubs every other day otherwise their AP starts to drop. Water? Place water treatment and water storage plants on the map. If the zombies capture those locations (OR if they're not looked after - opportunity for a MECHANIC class?) then AP/HP starts to suffer as you're basically consuming shitty untreated water.

As I said, it introduces bigger incentives for teamwork - on both sides as zombies would now have to counter human efforts to keep city infrastructure active. Secondly, it provides players with bigger variety in-game. At the moment the game is a search-venture-kill-hide grind which, like all things obviously, become tiresome.

Eh Jake you'll have to come to me for revivification low on experience points outside St Luke's Church in Dunell Hills.

Post it in the "suggestions" forum on the boards, man!

Although I'm finding it fascinating how the simplicity of the game is allowing for all manner of unofficial "missions" to come up just through human interaction... the factions, the Many, fuck, even the cheating zerg bastards... there's a story going on, goddammit!

Totally, Stoatie. I would even use the word "iconicism" or "archetypal" to describe in-game events. The barebones framework of the game allows pretty much any zombie movie-esque scenario to be described, for example kowalski's no-prize post here about the zergs, which I particularly liked.

Will send my last post to all willing to listen as soon as I've slept.

Excuse my ignorance, but why is it called zerg rushing?

unheimlich manoeuvre

Zerg rushing comes from Starcraft. One faction called the zerg had cheaper and more numerous units than the others and it was possible to go for an early win by errhh.. rushing.

Supaglue - Yes PM me when you get here.

Spent 40 AP's searching an NT building and only found one syringe. Got myself 2 new DNA extractors and 4 GPS units so I'm NEVAR getting lost again.

Bugger, I've been out socialising, instead of playing this the past few days, and EVERY time I get back, my zombie character has been revived, and killed again.

One night there was a war for my soul, as zombies chewed on me, and medics shuttle to and from the hospital I was near, healing me and telling me to "Get inside, Dammit!"

I see someone encountered 'George Morrison,' a character I created just to play around for a bit... yeah, he's dead now and all, but whoever spraypainted 'Barbelith!' in the building he was in is a cool fellow. Heh.

My Necrotech, Lou Merloni, is right near the cemetary in the Necrotech building, and he's packing a syringe, but needs 54 more XP to buy the skill to use it. Suggestions?

There should be a "give" function. That's key. My Private, if he ever gets revived, has extra flak jackets, pistols, shotguns, flares, you name it.

Quick question: Do flak jackets ever run out?

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
05:11 / 01.09.05
Yes, there should totally be a "give" function.

While Victor Kiam's cooling his rotting heels waiting in vain for revival, Tony Of Plymouth's entered the game.

I nearly ended up dead as soon as I started. I didn't know what the hell I was doing and ended up in a warehouse just as my internet connection went down for a minute or so. I logged back on to find a zombie in there with me!

Luckily this game lets you move pretty fast so I was out of there though. I'm a consumer and am in Tollyton at the moment anyway, I think I'll hit the mall and hope I can find stuff.

Billuccho!
14:19 / 01.09.05
Consumer is a tough class. Build up your skills by healing some people with stuff you find in drugstores until you're tough enough to fight a zombie. (My scientist is level nine and he still has no fighting skills).

And I dunno if flak jackets run out, but they're entirely pointless for human characters. They shield you from 20% of damage inflicted over 5, but zombies can only hit you with up to 4 damage, anyway. Basically, the flak jacket is for guys who had one, died, and are playing as zombies.

Which is another thing I want to know... do multiple flak jackets shield you better? That'd be crazy...

1. Do abandoned zombies just sort of stick around on autopilot? I mean, after your five days are up?
I'd suspect not, but there seem to be an awful lot of zombies nowadays....

2. I wish that not only there was a "Give" but also just a way to sort of watch things happen.

Scenario: Alan Burgroft is now inside a NecroTech bldg with two living, 4 ghouls.
He runs out of AP, returns hours later to see a list of things that happened: zombie attacked you, zombie attacked you, Guy 1 extracted your DNA, zombie attacked you, Guy 1 attempted to revive you, zombie attacked you, Guy 2 attempted to extract your DNA.
He then uses up all his AP attacking not Guy 1 and Guy 2, but his fellow zombies, killing one dead.
BUT -- he has no idea if one of the other zombies has attacked Guy 1 and Guy 2. And, as far as I can tell, they have no idea if zombie-Alan has been choosing to defeat zombies rather than them, or if he's just part of a mob of ghouls that are attacking them. So they're less likely to revivify me.

So, it'd be nice to know that sort of thing. To watch the zombies gnaw on each other, to know which character is going around healing the group, that kind of thing.

Or does that happen and I've just moved around too quickly to notice it?
