Good morning, my name is Seak.

/wave

I spend far too much time hanging around bicycles, and occasionally riding them, and when I can make the digital camera work I shall post a picture of my bike in the cycling thread for all to see.

I also spend too much time doing terribly worthy activist things (such as sitting in pubs having 'meetings').

Hello,
This is my first post and I just wanted to introduce myself.

Am a 21-year-old lapsed Jew studying English literature at West Virginia University (one time or another the number one party school in the nation...not as fun as it sounds). I am from Charleston, WV. I am lower middle class. I am getting into esoteric study and magick recently. My three passions are literature, writing, and women (sound too rough?).

Hello. I'm new here. I'm 19. I go to gsu in atlanta, and its pretty much a waste of time. I like to write and make art. I don't really have much to say.

Hello All!
I also am new to Barbelith. I actually decided to see if this place was still around after getting done re-reading my _Invisbles_ collection, and lo and behold, it was! then I went thru the months long registration process, and here I am!
So:I'm a male, 31-year old, single cashier/service industry grunt. I live in Athens, GA, which is just about the best town in the Southern US, and the only reason I haven't left GA in screams. I'm interested in: video games, roleplaying games, miniature games, game design (but no programming) comic books, sci-fi/fantasy, Discordianism, politics, religion, philosophy, etc.
I have one of the sweetest jobs in the universe, for which I am eternally grateful, this being a parking deck attendant. What's so great about that, you ask? Lots of time to read, listen to _All_Things_Considered_, and most importantly, play Playstation! I also work at a 24-hr diner called "The Grill", mainly to remind me what real work is like...

That's a bold statement. And not just because of the font.
Athens is pretty sweet, though.

Howdy! My godfather's a dean at Concord College. Which is in Athens... West Virginia. Nice town.

I went to grad school at UF, which wasn't ranked as top party school by Playboy at least one year because the editors didn't think it would be fair to the other schools, where they didn't take the partying seriously enough. This is true: my sister-in-law turned up for classes in the 70s, and they gave her a rum and coke with her dorm room key.

The thing with the rum and coke sounds great. The dorms are oppressive here. The staff is very conservative (future high school teachers and law enforcement the lot), so much of the partying is off in the hundreds of bars. I wish I felt more pressure to drink. The oppressive aspect is hard for a straight-edger (though I pray for someone to give me DMT or Salvia) like myself...it makes me feel so boring. I'm more of white wine and dinner guy...which is too expensive and anti-social.

Nonsense. Wine and dinner parties are fun as hell.

Oh, fuck, I'm old now, aren't I?

Hello bonjour! Je m'appelle Saraline and I'm not really bilingual. I live in Montreal and I used to be an English lit student before I ran out of money. Now I relay telephone conversations people in the United States who are deaf, hard of hearing, or speech impaired. Hoping to save up money to go back to school, self-publish my novel, and buy a nicer couch. I like stars, trees, and conspiracy theories. It's very nice to meet you!

Hello out there! I'm a neophyte who's been a lurker for a year or so. My interests include drawing, sculpture, science, magic/mysticism, video games (my most wasteful and longest-running vice, hah), and a whole slew of other things that my brain-tentacles get close enough to latch onto.

So, let's get this party started and reinvent the cultural milieu! ...Oh crap, do I have enough revolutionary spirit to make it?

Hi.
I'm Hal.
27, NYC.
I've been an on-and-off (mostly off) lurker since probably around when Barbelith started, and used to be on the Yahoogroups Invisibles list.
I'm bad at introductions and don't know what to say. Neat!
I'll probably go on mostly lurking, and occasionally posting sooner or later.
Rad.

Hello!

I'm Alex. I've been a lurker here (registered even) for quite a long time now, and despite occasionally posting bits here and there have really made the effort to become an active member of the board. I think I'd like to change that, and this seems like a good way to start.

Anyway, I'm 22, live in Austin, Texas and work as a mentor for at-risk youth (in American school terms, junior high students). I also take pictures, although not so much recently.

Hi everyone,

Following the advice of The Man In Charge and following the rules of common coutersy I decided to introduce myself, the only problem being that there are quite a few Introduction threads and I wasn't sure which one to chose. So I figured that going for the longest one, with the most recent post will be a good idea. Besides I thought it will work better for me to take it easy and get to know you lot first instead of just jumping out of the blue with comments. So...hello, here I am.

I am a 27-year old, Literature graduate from Poland, a huuuuge Elliott Smith fan, currently living in the shittiest in terms of weather part of the U.K - Cardiff. At the moment I have a boring office job in the Council and in the meantime I am training to become an interior designer.

As much as I am excited about being admitted to be a part of this forum and not just have 'read only' access to it, as a non-native speaker of English I am slightly scared and intimidated about the whole thing so please forgive me my occasional misspellings or alien grammatical structures. It will probably take me a little while to start posting regularily.

Being quite a busy person I normally find it quite hard to be up to date with certain topics as I only have so much time and there are so many things to research. I just keep putting stuff off and I never have enough time to get back to it and I think that this forum and making a contibution to it will keep me motivated.

That's about it I think.
I'm looking forward to chatting.

A.

Hello!

It seems like I registered forever ago, but I never seemed to be able to find the time to explore and get a sense of the place. But today is a good day for stuff like that, so here I am.

I'm a student right now, majoring in Biopsychology. I've sort of gone through a series of perspective shifts over the last few years, and while doing some research I ended up here. I'm looking forward to participating in the discussions around here!

Hi, I'm new here. I've intermittently browsed through the forum, but never taken the registration plunge until recently. I'm a fifth year senior studying English, with a creative writing emphasis. I came here because of a love for Grant Morrison, Robert Anton Wilson, conspiracy theories, counter cultures and the like. I'm 22, a couple weeks short of 23, and have no idea what I'm going to do with my life, which I'm ok with.

'Alo, a new member here. im the very model of a modern major general, ive been told. but of course that was by a homeless guy outside of the san diego comic con. in actuality im a white, middle class suburban male, 25 years old from metropolitan Detroit. roseville. ive been told i look like the bass player from alkaline trio, but im not so sure. i have an unhealthy fascination with the impending apocalypse (or collapse of civilization from a more secular perspective). im also deeply interested in mysticism, arab history and green lantern studies. a lapsed saxaphonist frustrated with monophony, i am trying to teach myself guitar. im a radical leftist, but i believe in a good dose of despotism and oppression as well, to balance things out. i recently experienced my very own babylonian exile, while living in miserable sunny san diego for almost three years until I quit my job as a diamond grader and returned to michigan to join the proud ranks of the unemployed. im currently attempting a reboot. as far as reading goes i eat h.p. lovecraft, i sleep phillip k dick and i breathe wikipedia. im a civilization 4 junkie and love marijuana. im a gin drinker by choice. and napoleon was from corsica.

Greetings people, this is my very first post here, although I've been lurking quietly for a while. For the last five or so years, I've been living the cushioned life of higher education, but now it seems reality is knocking on my door as I will try to get a job (although graduate studies are a possibility). I live in Stockholm, Sweden, and baby, it's cold outside. Music is my favourite past-time and lately remixes have been my current flavour of creation (zeitgeist.nu/musik). I hope that I can contribute to the niceness of this place somehow. By the way, I haven't tried Dick but I'll consider giving it a whirl.

Cheers!

Hey folks,

Somebody let me in the door a week or two ago, but since I work for the US govt I can't access my private email here. I don't even have a bigwig top secret role. I'm a paper pushing peon. Ah well, whatchagunnado?

My name is Nick. Nicky Fingaz is my pseudomafia name me and my boys made up back in highschool. I just kept mine because it was my email and it's easier than my real last name to type. Yeah yeah, its my fiction suit, I know, I know.

I grew up in Staten Island NY. I lived in Brooklyn and the Lower East Side for some time, but have moved down to the Nashville area for my once GF, now wife. It also helps that I might be able to afford a house down here one day. I'm 33 y/o right now.

I found this place through The Invisibles and y'all have seemed to take on an interesting life of your own.

I found The Invisibles & got into primarily because of the heavy influence of The Illuminatus Trilogy which is probably my favorite book ever.

I'm probably fairly typical this site. I'm trying to fit in creating my own comic book while paying bills, doing the life thing, and beating my art up for lack of perfection.

My Influences

COMICS - Grant Morrison, Mike Mignola, Frank Miller, Katsuhiro Otomo, Howard Chaykin, Masamune Shirow, the entire Gaijin Studios school of art, Alan Moore, Warren Ellis, 100 Bullets.

FICTION - RA Wilson, William Gibson, Raymond Chandler, The Paratwa Trilogy by Chris Hinz, Thomas Pynchon, Fritz Leiber, Philip k Dick

NON-FICTION - Noam Chomsky, Howard Zinn, Gore Vidal

ANIME - Akira, Appleseed, Giant Robo, Cowboy Bebop, Eureka 7, Hayao Miyazaki's stuff.

MOVIES - The Big Lebowski, Amelie, Kung Fu Hustle, The 5 Deadly Venoms, Avenging Eagle, Fight Club, 12 Monkeys

TV - The Prisoner, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, UFC Fights, Food Network, Cspan-BookTV, Battlestar Galactica.

That's all I can think of for now & I need to do some more work, so talk to ya lata.

Feel free to call me Nick, Nicky, Fingaz, Nicky Fingaz, or NF for the truly lazy. I'm cool however you drop it.

Not necessarily all of it- but welcome! I'm totally with you about kung-fu hustle, it's aces, and by chance I was about to re-read the Ill trilogy until the Number 23 movie hype started up, now I'm going to wait a few months. Maybe you could lend your expertise to a dissection of the 23 experiment and the massive fallout it caused, once I start the thread?

I could give it a shot, but I dunno how much expertise I'll have. I always thought RAW's numerology obsession was a kind of demonstration of how we train our mind's to pick up certain patterns, because we have been told to look for them. He could have picked any numbers besides 5, 17 & 23 and could have used it the exact same way within the novel. With enough ingenuity you can create significance from anything.

At least that's my take on 23.

The movie I need to see more about. I haven't bothered to look up anything yet.

<threadrot> I think RAW actually mentioned this in the Disinformation: The Interviews Book/DVD. A fan claimed that they'd figured out that the 23 'engima' simply occured because he made his readers so aware of the number (he called it a 'neurological grid'). IIRC correctly after admitting this he promptly took the fan to a restaurant where the waiter seated them at table 23. </threadrot>

Make me Uncomfortable
11:50 / 14.02.07
Hey Everyone- this is my first post to Barbelith.

I'm Telephones and Telephone Bells, a student at Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh pursuing Art Theory and Literary Theory. I read The Invisibles about eight months back and it sort of blew my mind in half. I have been of course using the large new hole in the side of my head as a storage space for books, many of which seemed to have transcribed themselves directly onto my brain. Since then I've done a lot of art based on the works of the Situationists, Neoists, Archegram, etc. Some of my interests: synchronicity, city magic, pop occultism, buddhism, yoga, zen, good memoirs, writing, urban studies, applying critical theory to really random everyday situations, 3x5 card origami, Ambient Music, books by George R R Martin or William Gibson, snow.

Anyway, thats me. Any questions?
