Hi, My name is Conor, and I haven't been invited to the board by anyone. I came upon this place as an extension to my reading of the Invisibles and, well, I thought it was interesting enough to warrant further exploration.

I'm living in Dublin, Ireland and am currently studying Natural Sciences. I'm also fairly involved with the LGBT movement in the current political atmosphere and I'm also male.

Hobby-wise, I like science and technology, fiction (be it fantasy or Sci-fi) and I like all manner of creative endeavours, from sculpture to embroidery.

ps. On the subject of names, I decided to use my real life name on this board. The idea of fiction-suits really intrigued me, and so I decided to use the name that generally incorporates all the different facets to my character.

Hello everyone!

Hello I am Jack and I'm from New York City and I am a student. I have lived in New York my entire life but I have traveled quite a bit around the world. This has sparked my interest in everthing international, I am studying International Affairs in school. I am also very interested in politics and I love to argue with people that do not agree with me. I have many other interests, which I will not go into right now for the sake of brevity. I just wanted to introduce myself to everyone

Well, read the board a bit, I'd advise, before posting anything too inflammatory. Barbelith has an extremely low threshhold of tolerance for people it perceives as primarily playing devils advocate, and certain views aren't tolerated at all. You can get yourself banned pretty quickly by being racist, homophobic or misogynist.

That being said, welcome!

ONLY NICE THINGS

Oh, I dunno - I've seen people play devil's advocate very ably here, and contribute a lot to very enjoyable discussions. What I think we don't do very well with is when people don't understand what a devil's advocate is, and still claim to be one - for example, when they are not actually presenting coherent arguments at all - or when people claime to be playing devil's advocate but are in fact quite clearly expressing their own sincerely-held belliefs, but not wanting to take responsibility for them.

Switchboard. What do you think about Blair as middle East envoy? The political reaction to the environmental disaster? US relations with the UN? International support of Israel?

well hello 'lithians!

it's time for an intro, methinks. xk hasslehoffed me into joining the board, she's been raving about you people. though i have been a bit shy to post as the vast intelligence contained within these hallowed halls of ether have left me a bit intimidated, i threw caution to the wind and posted in the cloverfield thread because i was just too damn excited about it and couldn't contain myself. so sorry about not introducing myself first!

i live in new hampshire in an old farmhouse. a small flock of hens graces my yard, and two feline huntresses patrol the grounds. two lovely house rabbits keep me company. i have 2 male scorpio roommates (fun times!) and searching for a fourth. (roommate that is, i'm all set with the scorpio boys).

i reckon you would call me an eclectic pagan, having pulled from both celtic, native amercian, and egyptian traditions. i suppose it reflects my dubious bloodlines which contain greek, italian, cherokee, scottish and irish. i've been interested in voodoo for as long as i can remember; that interest was amped by a trip to new orleans in 1999. or was it 2000? hm. previously i felt that i shouldn't practice voodoo because of racial issues, but it seems a lot of folks believe the paleness of my skin should not be a barrier. i just signed up for cat yronwode's hoodoo course because of the rave reviews it has gotten. guess i'll be lurking most in the temple.....

other things i am into include working towards self-sufficient living, 19th century style photography, the burning man festival, spinning and breathing fire, organic gardening, old motorcycles, bikram yoga, halloween, lovecraft, singing, poetry, books, black phoenix alchemy lab, making things...egads i have no time! oh, and i do computer tech support for a living, wrangling software that runs on unix boxes. whee.

/wave!

No worries, epona. Welcome to the Lith.

Looking forward to seeing you around. Sounds as though you might be able to bring stuff to the Creation and the Books, both worthy fora that need some attention.

Hello all,

XK invited me to join this community a while ago but I’ve been so busy with other work that I’ve only had time to catch the odd interesting thread. Now that my life has quieted down a little bit I’ll hopefully be able to contribute to this community.

Info about me: I live in New Hampshire, USA. I’m in my mid 20s, enjoy hiking, shooting, reading, anime, and good television (Joss Whedon is my lord and master!).
I’m also pagan, polyamorous, into occultism, the body mod community, mythology, sustainability (see my piece in the upcoming Barbelith Journal), and more. I’m part of the spiritworker community, which is sort of how I got here (in a round about way) and I see some familiar usernames.

I hope to contribute good information, thoughtful opinions, insightful discussion, and occasional maniacal laughter.

Regards,
Summerwind Tashlin

Nah, I'm just spreading the rep of the community. Hard to come by quality online discussion on various topics, so you know, I rave.

I've already got an army made of cat hair.

Hi, I'm LJ (little Jane) to friends. I've been lurking on the fringes of Barbelith for a little while until I gained membership, and discovered the board through Doctor Who. Is that bad?!

I like: Doctor Who, cupcakes with pink icing, Brave New World & 1984, scratching that soft spot behind my dog's ears, books, books and more books, Jack White, and though it ain't fashionable blowsy english roses and integrity. And Neil Gaiman (though I do agree with the SHUT UP NEIL GAIMAN thread on many occasions...)

I'm agnostic, but envious of those who have faith.

And an english redhead who adores Tori Amos, Shirley Manson and Catherine McIntyre.

I'm confused now. The cupcakes with pink icing would normally make you my sworn enemy, but since you like integrity, I'm conflicted.

Greetings Barbelith!

I've just registered and I felt that it would be appropriate to introduce myself.

I'm turning 20 this September and finally starting a Humanities course at University of Surrey after a gap year...

I'm a bit of an idealist I guess. I've been told I'm a philosopher (I'm not denying it!) and I can ramble.

One of my dreams is to write, maybe get published and somehow make people think...

I'm a also a bit of a computer games geek, I like listening to music (a wiiiiiiiiide spectrum of genres, really), reading, writing (surprise)

I like the world in general, hehe.

And I'm a girl. That's so much fun...

Anyway, I hope that I'll enjoy my time here!

Hi all,

My name's Tade and this is my first post.

Don't quite know how much (or little) to say. I'm in London, I work in Mental Health, and sometimes I write fiction. I come in peace.

I'm glad to be here and I plan to read a few posts to get myself settled-in.

Hi, all you new folks! (Also, hi all you not-so-new that I didn't say 'hi' to, yet.)

Don't keep your hands inside at all times, don't restrain yourselves from flash photography if you can make things explode with it, and enjoy the ride.

The Bronx is up and the atomic batteries to power. There will be whisky, coffee, cake and an assortment of fine cheeses served in the lateshifts at regular intervals. No irregular stops without punchlines older than Moses'. Check your bags and double-check your LOLcats for gramar. Mind your hats goan in.

And post, new people! Read the FAQ, read a few threads (esp. the Feminism 101 threads and some of the banning threads in Policy, if you want to hit the ground running) and post! Read, then post! Read, read, read and post, post, post! Post like the wind! The Art forum, Games and Gameplay, and Switchboard are especially primed for delightful new fresh posts!

Salutations, folks.

I found this site a while ago, just did the whole registration deal and figured i'd make my cardinal post in the introductions thread.

I'm 22, a Long Island native, currently working as a teacher/counselor for adults with disabilities, hopefully have my own creative writing room there soon. Also trying to finish/figure out what the hell to do with a film degree in the city.

I listen to a ridiculous amount of music (from aphex to zappa), am a huge werner herzog fan, so i'll probably chat it up in any music/film/writing threads before i'm feeling adept enough for anything like the temple

i'd say that's thorough enough, glad to be a part of barbelith!

Hello Barbelith, things well I hope?

I'm a 20 year old law student from Central New Jersey going to school in Western Mass. I'm a pretty reasonable person and I just love thinking (apparently something most other people my age are not too big on). I found the site while delving into the comic series and have to admit this is probably the most well-behaved forum I've ever been on, I really look forward to posting with all of you.
