You know, Grant, I know exactly what you mean.

_____

Transvestite serial killer wearing a pair of someone else's lips.
_____

(P.S. Dead Megatron, you might want to draw too much attention to the amount of contributions to Barbelith you have made that have been, in effect, you writing your own name in caps repeatedly. I'm just sayin'.)

And I'd suggest that you do not ascribe capslogical causes to non-capslogical reactions*.

You know, I neved did, but now I have a sudden urge to start signing my posts...

In the name of everybody who's not Haus, though, I shall resist said urge (except for now, of course)

* And maybe even stop rotting the Introductions thread too.

But that's probably just me.

> get ember.

You can't get that without burning your fingers!

*Grins* Perhaps not, since that's why I was given the name Ember as a teenager.

(I mean, not because it reminded people of Adventure, but because I had a warm personality and a hot temper. I've since gotten over the reflex to hit people for touching me without permission, though.)

That's ironic - I took that as facitious, not provoking. But I'm used to that particular style of pointing out linguistic errors (i.e. I used an absoloute where it didn't literally apply).

But if I'm going to be held to that level of extreme precision, I must admit that I misquoted myself. When I'm on base, it's "Base Clear". I only answer "One Eight Clear" when I'm roving. I'm sure that's very important here.

--Ember--

I'm glad you didnt take it as rude mate, I was just being facetious/trolling. For the record I'm not as a rule a fan of sigs, but one word with a couple of little dashes is fine by me.

Alex's Grandma
20:05 / 28.08.06
Hello.

I gather that some of you are familiar with recent sordid developments in the life of my family. For those of you who are, my great nephew Alex (I mean that strictly in the legal sense - there is nothing 'great' about that boy otherwise, in my considered opinion) has now gone to Portugal in 'a last ditch effort to quit the drugs,' or, if you'd prefer, as I do, to 'try and secure an invitation to Kate Moss and Peter Doherty's wedding.'

Well that was to be expected, I suppose - I despaired of the lad years ago.

What is of more concern is the sad fate of my sister, Alex's grandmother, who has recently entered The Priory for reasons to do with 'nervous exhaustion' and so on. She was apparently having 'musical differences' with the fridge, by the end, and appeared to be lost in a world of gin during the intervention - I knew this 'new lease of life' she claimed to have discovered when the Twilight Home purchased a broadband connection would only end in tears, but I didn't expect to be proved correct (as I have been, and often, during my career as a 'stern dinner companion') in such short order.

She's frankly a shambles now, my sister. She sits there chain-smoking in the lavish gardens, her eyes pouring out black water every time anyone mentions anything to do with 'the house' - for some reason she believes that 'the little people' have 'destroyed the house finally, like termites,' but as far as I know, sitting in her three up two down in London, it's still all right. Although for those of you familiar with 'drug paraphernelia,' there seems to be a lot of it lying around.

Anyway, to introduce myself, and seeing as I seem to have 'de facto' inherited the internet user ID, along with all the other alarming evidence of lives gone to seed in this worrying place, I hold these truths to be self-evident;

1) If after a hard day at the office spent punishing other people, you feel the need to be punished in return, I've been in the trade since the early Seventies.

2) I'm fair, but firm

3) You can trust me. I'm not like the others.

Welcome aboard, Auntie! Let Alex's Grandma know we miss her, and give our best to Alex if/when he makes it out of detox.

Good to have you on board, Auntie. It's especially heartening to have someone around the place who understands the importance of discipline, as standards have been slipping lately, and there are several young whippersnappers who could do with being taken in hand.

Yes. Yes it does, John.

Unless one is on the 'naughty step' that is, in which case time crawls by like ... like a worm, I suppose.

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
21:51 / 28.08.06
I'm not entirely convinced that worms crawl, you know. I'm fairly certain that crawling requires limbs.

Anyhoo, welcome, Auntie. Pardon my language should I swear.

22:04 / 28.08.06
I don't anticipate any problems, Mr Stoat. I gather from my sister and disgraced nephew that you read 'The Daily Mail' every day, and that's good enough for me.

It's a bloody good paper, that, don't you find?

So many of the other voices one hears these days are such milquetoasts when it comes to the question of discipline ... And they shouldn't be.

Hearing voices, eh? I suppose that you'll be a perfect replacement for Alex's Grandma while she recuperates then.

After trawling the various Introduction threads for the current one - I finally ended up here. It may be a bit early for me to be making recommendations, but some sort of consolidation is definitely required.

As to me...I'm a 32yr old brit working in telecoms engineering, with a background in physics and "lots of other stuff I did when I was younger".

I read quite a bit (mainly Sc-fi/fantasy) and enjoy playing computer games of various genres (when I get time around work and family ) - Currently playing GalCivII, Urban Dead, Freelancer, BF2 and Maple Story(Broa) - as Rayvern in the Online ones - in case you play and want to look out for me .

I've been online since my Uni Days (back in the early 90s on EW-IIs such as Surfers and Caves) and have gone by the name of Lowen, Calis and Rayvern - though I only use the latter now.

I have the distinct (mis?) fortune of knowing Evil Scientist irl, and have known him for many, many, many,....a long time. I can testify to the fact that he is a scientist and he does have regular Evil episodes (I think my son (who will one day rule the world) has him reserved to be the Top Evil Scientist in his future Global Empire - kind of like an Age of Apocalypse Beast )

Duuuuuuuuuuude!

Happy to have you here, welcome to the second happiest place on Earth. I look forward to violently disagreeing with everything you stand for.

But I hate to tell you that your kid is not, in fact going to rule the world.

Age and deceit always beat youth and exuberance.

Mwoo ha haa!

when Evil Scientist moves on to bigger and better things.

Well, a Time War is always an option but I think a load of second-rate world conquerors tried that a while back.

Still anything to boost Kali's chance of being the new Doctor's assistant.

Who is your military advisor? You can't jump from global empiricism to temporal conflict. It's an untenable overextension of forces and logistics.

What you need to do is step up by at least pan-galactic archimandrite status first and probably even multisectoral domination in order to establish a feasible diversification of base operations.

I appreciate the pressing strain of megalomania and understand that a certain amount of pandering to your deranged desires is paramount to my position and survival, but please take a moment to consider the little people, upon whom the success of all of your plans rest. It will benefit you immensely.

It would be preferable if the term "applied" were used, my leige. It allows your minions to retain confidence in your ability to appoint on grounds of merit rather than convenience. No point in risking an uprising at such a delicat point in the expansion of ones demense.

it doesn't strike you that liking v.sush is in fact one of the ideal listings of things to like for a trojan 'lith implant? And/or a cute mammal picture?

...and I resent the zero to mild paranoia assertion. I'll have you know I operate at a steady mid range level of paranoia tempered only by my constant state of SQUEE.

Paranoia that can only be tempered by David Boreanaz's dancing?

I think vegetarian sushi-loving is a good thing. But that's just my opinion, and I have many, as does everyone else... But maybe we should ssh. We might be scaring people away, and I want people to think I'm a comedy clutzy Ritz-brothers type instead of a whispery-vegetarian-sushi-merits-debating shadowy-deep-throat-(x-files, in case any of you perverts too that the wrong way)-type.

In a nutshell.
