The email I received when I joined (Nov 2005) read..

"If you wish to introduce yourself to the board in general, then there is normally an 'Introductions' thread running in The Conversation at any given time (and if there isn't, then maybe you should start one).

Has it changed since then? If not, it's more that understandable why new users start fresh introduction threads..

Yes, the welcome e-mail DOES say that if you can't find a handy introductions thread, you can start one yourself. That's what I did. It's nice to meet everyone...

Lots of new threads isn't all bad. It gives an opportunity to kindly point newcomers in the right direction, if nothing else.

ONLY NICE THINGS

Yes, but that doesn't seem to have happened here, exactly.

Oh, stuff it. Could somebody PM me the text of their "welcome aboard" letter? I'll edit it and propose the changes.

can't find mine, but as far as I recall I wrote my first couple posts not knowing there was either a wiki or a search function [um, i'm very very unobservant]. If those were mentioned, rather than a direct link to the thread itself, maybe that could be helpful while not attracting bugs?

Done.

Jack Denfeld
22:10 / 12.03.07
Hey. I'm Jack Denfeld. I like the Nas song I Can. I don't think it's silly, I've absorbed it to where I take it as a serious uplifting song.

Been a little afraid to post on Barbelith, partly because I'm very shy, and partly because I don't like attention.

I'm looking at you.

Ha! Gotcha! (I do like that Nas song though)

Sole Eater

Hmm, can it be played backwards and exhort you to place your head in a plastic bag while humming warpigs through a mouthful of chocolate custard? If so I want to hear it. (I get such little new music away from the madding crwd here).

Woo-hoo! I'm posting on Barbelith! I am a new poster, having just received my welcome email. It didn't take nearly as long to get through the door as I'd thought - maybe only a couple of weeks since I asked to join? Anyway, I expect I'll mostly be posting in the Temple, which is where I've done the vast majority of my lurking, up until now.

Welcome, Lucida. We, the hive mind appreciate the fact that you posted for the very first time in the Introductions thread, and in an established thread at that!

If you have anything to say on the subject of Tricksters, as one Temple lurker to another I might advise you to get your skates on, as that wagon is leaving town at a rate of knots.

(Damn, Boboss beat me to that gag.)

Actually, I wanted to tell you all about my work with a powerful syncretic Trickster avatar, namely, Triumph the Insult Dog. The cigar, of course, links him to Legba, while his irreverent mocking of celebrity recalls the Holy Fool, and his catch phrase, “nice for me to poop on” is clearly a praise offering to the rich fertility of Gaia.

Oh, just kidding.

Hello, everyone.

At some point I will think of something witty and insightful to say, but for now I'll just wave and grin.

Hey everyone,
Boy, does it feel good to be new...Kind of impressed but i guess everything will be fine
I'm 25, french, i mostly write songs and read books, and i feel like i have been a student all my life (which seems fit as far as approaching magic is concerned).
I'm currently writing a post-grad thesis on Romanticism, magic and pop culture in the 20th century Western World...i know it sounds kind of corny but believe me, most people around here have never heard of R.A.W.
Ooh, i'm also trying to conquer my corner of the world with my band nation all dust (you can always check us out on our Murdoch-owned space)
Anyways, after a long time spent lurking around i can finally properly post it:
thank you all for being here, Barbelites!!!!

Hi there, Just joined yesterday. Thought i'd introduce myself. I'm 25, have a degree in Film Studies and have been invited by the man who calls himself YO!. I live in London and work for a Media company that handles the material for a few different television channels. My tastes are pretty varied and i'll be posting a lot in Film, Books and Music probably. Looking forward to talking to you all...

Welcome, both of you, (and Lucida et al prior to that).

Have fun!

Remember. The wise man mocks the man; the mocked man mocks the mocker.

Uh-oh, civil war brewing.

Welcome bandini. Any friend of the one called YO! is at least tangentially a friend of mine.

Just don't make any disparaging comments about hip-hop or anime and you'll be fiiine.

Not sure of the etiquette of introduction here, but, well, hi.

Erm, research and teach critical theory, performance artist, intermittently published writer, musician, magician, witch, queer and various other things. Occasionally have a tendency to look at my schedule and wonder why I agree to do any of these things...

Barbelith looked like fun, though I confess a certain degree of trepidation about posting here, much like others on this thread. I'm sure it'll go away.

AHAHAHAHAH. (Not yet.)

Hi, welcome. You sound like good folks. Apparently the latest thing not to do is mess with bandini and incur YO!s wrath thereby.

Actually, the trepidation never goes away. In fact,it only gets worse, specially in the morning, before your first fix of the day.

Anyways, it`s too late now. Welcome

Good er'n, I'm Cathryn Setz, new to Barbelith and looking for discussions about literature. I'm 24, postgrad in London studying contemporary British/American fiction, moving into a PhD in the Autumn, Brightonian by birth (and spiritual void), a bit isolated debate-wise so keen to get involved. Discovered Barbelith via two friends. Warm hello to all. Regrds, CS.

Hello, Cathryn, nice to have you on board. Liked your post in Books, 'tis a shame I have nothing to add to it.
