Greetings all, I've been lurking about, skimming the archives here for a few months, keeping my fingers crossed for open registration or something (policy has been good reading lately!) and I'm happy to finally be able to participate.

I'll just get this out of the way: I devoured the Invisibles shortly after finding Barbelith, and it was great, but this site is infinitely more fascinating because it's real and alive. Thanks for opening the door!

Hey all, first post, as is commonly the way around here. Short version: I'm nineteen, Irish, a total geek and studying archeology in Australia. Mostly here for the Temple and to see if I can poke around and learn anything (don't all dash my hopes at once).

Looking forward to seeing how this influences me, so if you'll excuse me, I'll be looking for something to talk about.

Welcome, and have fun - worth reading through a few of the threads in the Policy too, and having a poke around on the wiki (assuming you've not been lurking and doing just that for months, of course).

Hello

Yes, like the man says, have a look at the Policy and the wiki.

I am a quasi evil American lawyer who greatly admires Barbelith and has learned much....Little concerned that chaos magick has been eliminated as a major discussion. Practices Tibetan Buddhism, without, of course, the pesky practice of non-attachment. Gracias.

Hey, what's up, DD? Hello, and ditto Quad and Boboss' post above yours.

that chaos magick has been eliminated as a major discussion

nah we talk about it all the time. we were just talking about it and the issue of cultural misappropriation last week. C'mon over to the Temple and have your say.

Ah, the intro post - a fine, lost art. Well, lost to me, anyway. I'm awful at introductions. I always end up feeling like I've just written a singles add.

"Female who likes reading, music, enlightened debate, being educated, and long stretches of computer gaming seeks friends for same."

In any case, here I am. It's not often I meet people I can have intelligent conversations with in my neck of the woods, so this'll be a nice change of pace. Glad to be here, and I hope I don't screw up too terribly badly while I get my feet under me.

Hello mad Barbelith peoples. Phew...feels like I just went through some kind of right of passage just finding a proper introductions thread. I've been registered here for quite awhile...haven't been lurking, I'm just flaky about commiting myself to online communities. Now though, I'm liking the idea of having a steady spot to gravitate to. This should be fun. Looking forward to digging into this with you all

Here's a couple links to show you where I'm at/what I'm into:

I'm a media artist/electronic musician: Skerror Myspace

I sell things through my "Future Oddities Emporium": Skerror's Future Oddities Emporium

Hello,
I'm Jo and I'm new around here. I'm 27 and live in Wellington, New Zealand.
I'm a Flickr addict and photography enthusiast, I've had a website of some shape or form since late 1995 and I manage website content for a living.

I imagine I'll be most active in the music, books and television type of topics.

Welcome, young devil! Half Aruban, Half Serb, guess that makes you pretty unique.

What an overflowing selection of introductions threads to choose from. Clearly some new users are too absurd to notice the search function at the bottom of the page.

My name is Natalia, I am a Russian Supermodel from Russia. I'm sure we will all get on like a house of fire. I can perform an arabesque at two paces and I have a team of fire-fighting cats, simply called The Cats.

To be fair, the search function will give you a lot of options.

I found choosing the top option surprisingly effective. Perhaps I am not rebel enough for this space?

Wow. Not just a model, but a supermodel.
As for searching, I've found this function to be most effective, and also this one. They are both mentioned elsewhere, but it can't hurt to put them around more, they're a little hard to find. Try searching for them.

Anna de Logardiere

No sweetheart, my point was that the only thing you can find with the search function is an introductions thread.

Tsuga
22:20 / 07.03.08
It's the only thing you can find? I'm sorry sugar, I don't see where you made that point. My point was that there are better search functions available than that shit one on the front page.

Come on folks lets play nice this is intro's plenty of time for deconstruction later.

Thank you Tsuga but maybe rather than putting links there you should put that in the wiki which I understood to be the official help resource of barbelith? I have read it and didn't find anything about searching there. "Clearly some new users are too absurd to notice the search function at the bottom of the page." This was a comment on the idea that while I have been waiting to use barbelith I have noticed lots of people fail to find the thread I post to now. If you don't like that maybe you were too stupid to find one too?

Anna de Logardiere

Alex's Grandma, are you really Alex's grandma? Is that Alex from Blur's grandma or somebody else's grandma? I am confused.

Anna de Logardiere
10:01 / 08.03.08
... wait I just found it. Those side by side links don't work from a useability point of view if you're searching for something specific. Does anyone have a problem with me changing the layout of the page?

Lama glama

Natalia, there's another search function that's much more effective:

Hello there,

4 years after finding this website (as i recall - sitting in an airport internet cafe googling the author China Mieville) I have finally signed up.

I am a 35 year old London born teacher; living in Norwich, UK and 3 weeks away from emigrating with my family to Toowoomba (nr Brisbane), Australia.

So, no more staring at the natty homepage and wondering whether I should contribute; I'm here now and quite chuffed, as Barbelith has come to be one of my first ports of call for ideas, thoughts and cultural musings.
