I'm not sure what upsets me about Eugene more; his social awkwardness or the glazed smiles he gets from everyone else in the house.

I have just decided that Kemal must win. I have my reasons. I may even vote this year to ensure it.

I have my reasons.

Quite agree with lulabelle. Derek is going to teach Science how to be a gentleman. What larks!

Quite liking Science and Derek's little heart to hearts throughout the last week complete with paternal little back pats. Particularly in contrast to the previous week when Derek made the BNP comment.

Eugene should not do impressions.

Thank you very much Ganesh for bothering to post all that from TMO, it was quite fascinating!

I also think she was more hurt by Anthony's perceived rejection/betrayal than is immediately apparent, which probably has some bearing on her relationship with Team Saskia generally.

I absolutely agree with this, as per her 'Would you shag her for the crack?' comments this evening. It made me feel very uncomfortable when Anthony started trying to explain to Makosi that she was attractive but Orlaith(sp?) for him was...

And Makosi clearly just wanted him to shut up before he said, '...much better than you'.

I like Makosi. I liked her comments to Anthony when he was railing about how Saskia didn't deserve to go, and she said, "Well who does 'deserve' to go then Anthony?" She really quizzed him about what he was actually saying. She muddles people but she does it gently, without them realising and I quite admire her for that.

Eugene should not do impressions.

Or constantly tell long-winded dull stories. It's either very clever editing or pure response, but I love the way that whenever Eugene talks they show the listening housemates blank, glazed looks and stifled yawns.

I suggest we rename a member of the house to 'the curse of Craig' because clearly hanging around Craig is a curse of the highest order. He's too stupid to be worth nominating but he's so awful that it reflects on everyone around him. Would Team Saskia be in this position if he had not stretched the attention of the core three intitally? Am I going to far in my theorising?

23:01 / 30.06.05
I don't know Nina. Craig is awful, malicious and prone to the odd snivelling fit but I think it was some of the other Team Saskia members that truly alienated the group. Saskia herself obviously who had little time for anyone outside her immmediate TS.
I also think people eventually would have found some of Maxwell's comments a little hard to digest ,and to agree with Derek, his cheeky chap routine belies some pretty nasty views.

Craig: Oh yeh, of all the people in the house I think [Saxwell] are great and I'd never slate them or say anything bad about them evah.

Anthony: Um, well, like

Craig: Exactly.

God, they're not even in the same room, Craig. Give over.

But the question is would they have alienated the group without Craig's devilish little voice in their ear? Hmmmm? I think Satan has a g*m*pl*n for Craig.

And frankly Maxwell's an engineer, Derek wrote speeches professionally for Thatcher. Nasty views indeed!

I think Satan has a g*m*pl*n for Craig

If Beelzebub is using Craig as a vessel to seduce housemates to the Dark Side, surely he could have given him better hair. And a better personality. And a proper voice. Or something attractive with which to seduce, really.

Typical Beelzebub, spending all his effort on getting the arousing man breasts right and forgetting the rest.

Ah Kemal. At last, I can like him as much as I wanted to.

Think that everyone should have the benefit of one of Alex's posts from TMO :

Christ... She's going to tear his heart out isn't she, that girl ? Poor Maxwell. He's going to stsgger out of the house in a couple of weeks, looking for love, having been cock-blocked by Orlaith, only to find himself lost in a world of men's mag parties he won't understand.

He'll be standing there getting pissed in the corner while Saskia's being fab with the editors of Front, Nuts and Zoo, just wanting to be alone with her, having built up their time together into something it never was, in his mind.

'Saskia, I lo...'

'Stay away from me, Maxwell.'

'But babe, I...'

'Unless there is a photographer present, just. Stay. Away.'

'But I thought...'

'Maxwell, you are boring me now.'

-but I'm not sure that Saskia would make it known in front of cameras that she is snogging someone lower down the food chain, and the conversation might be even worse for Maxwell :

'Sakia, I got you a can of cider and I lo...'

'Maxwell, I am carrying a knife. Never speak to me again.'

In case anyone missed it, that Maxwell/Kemal exchange in full:

Scene: the bedroom. Maxwell and Saskia slurping away at each other in not-at-all-desperate-or-forced snogathon. Kemal in the next bed.

Kemal: Is this ordeal ever going to end so we can get some bloody sleep? I'm sure you've secured your magazine deal.

Maxwell: You're the biggest prick in the world!

*Maxwell throws glass of water over supine Kemal*

Maxwell: There's your fucking ordeal!

Kemal: At least somebody got wet tonight...and it wasn't Saskia.

Ba ba ba ba baaah. I'm lovin' him.

I wonder if Maxwell is going to be pulled up over that. He was certainly being no less threatening than Roberto was when he tipped noodles over him. Maybe they'll store it up in case they want to manipulate the nominations again next week.
It's funny how things start to turn around a bit in week 5. Kemal seems to be striking a more watchable balance between his various modes, and I'm even warming to Science. He sky-rocketed in my estimations during his nominations last week - pointedly not nominating Anthony despite the tweedle-dumb slag-fest immediately before, and nominating Craig for his false-consciousness in aligning himself with TS. He said as much to his face last night in an argument where Craig gave away more than he might have intended to.
"My whole life I've defended people who don't defend me back. I'm used to it."

He's the bullied kid who wants to be the bully, isn't he. He admires TS for the power they have, even though that power is asserted at his expense.

Euegene I like. I think he might be just what Derek needs (someone intelligent, politically informed and on the left) and I hope as Eugene's confidence builds he'll start digging around all the things that make Derek a peculiar and interesting character. Things that the rest of the house seem to find totally unremarkable. A gay, black Tory? What's a Tory?

Eugene will win, I betcha.

What possibly reason is there to like Eugene? He is a relentlessly tedious, 'wacky', 'keraaazy', Colin Hunt-alike who clearly owns a Star Trek uniform.

If he wins it will sound the deathknell for all that is good in Britain. We will enter a new dark age in which everyone is forced to memorise Monty Python sketches, deliver long and rambling stories about LCDs, and masturbate furiously over pictures of that Vulcan woman from Enterprise.

I like him. He's completely guileless as far as I can tell, hasn't engaged in any self-serving bitchiness (in contrast to Orlaith), seems considerate and well-meaning and I think he's kind of appealing. *shrug*

I think 'geek' is far too broad a term here.

I know I'm not being entirely rational here, but I find Eugene to be a real fingernails-on-a-chalkboard kind of guy. I know some people feel this way about Science, but at least if you were stuck in a lift with him he might SHUT UP every now and again.

(Also, we must not forget Science's "Tweedledee, Tweedledum and Tweedletwat" remark, which was classic.)

Remove the conversations about LCDs and replace them with conversations about RPGs and you've essentially described my life.

Fascinating alteration in house dynamics over the course of The 'Lith Crash.

I've been liking Saskia's and Maxwell's confusion about being voted. They honestly don't seem to get how the system works.

Piss off majority of people in house. Get nominated.

Apparently the budding romance between Craig and Anthony is not only obvious to us at Barbelith.
Orlaith then asked Craig whom his love interest is, only for him to reply: "Hmm, that's the question."

"He's obsessed with attention," Anthony bitched, as Craig whined that it wasn't true and the pair of them started bickering like an old married couple, lost on their way to the Mardi Gras.

See Orlaith? It's perfectly clear...

It seems to me that Craig contrives to find any way possible to have physical contact with Anthony even to the extent of ordering him to come and sit next to him, which Anthony duly does.

I'm liking Orlaith a lot since her arrival into the house proper (as does Anthony) and no it ain't cos she showers topless.

Eugene is somewhat annoying but I don't think it is his fault, I could be wrong but he appears to me to have all the classic signs of Asperger's Syndrome. The most obvious are that he doesn't notice that his stories are boring others and he exhibits echolalia. I can't recall any particular incidents of compulsive arm or hand movement but I have a feeling he exhibits this also.

Confusingly Saskia's friends and family say that she is single which contradicts the tabloid stories about her boyfriend seeing a shrink.
