I think it is funny how all the women and Craig are visibly turned off by Eugene. Contempt almost. What has the guy done apart from be uncool? He is a nice chap.

"Nice" doesn't necessarily translate into "turn on" or "fun to be around". I think there's a lack of connection there, because Eugene's consuming passions overlap so little with the interests of others in the group.

The way his anecdotes are sometimes not even remotely tangental to the conversation could have something to do with it too.

Yes. Got my first proper view of him today - telling some incredibly boring 'story' about cars and what struck me wasn't so much 'barbelithian/geek' as:

Now you've mentioned it, GGM, I'm sooo seeing it. Eugene also seems a bit of a weird throwback to previous generations of maleness: he seems fascinated by things one's Dad - or even grandad - would talk about, makes of car, circuitry, Match of the Day...

I suspect (or, at least, I'm hoping) this week's nominees will be Vanetha and A N Other, prefererably Orlaith or Eugene. Newbies never last long, and these ones are peripheral; they don't add much to the mix. Vanetha seems to have little social function other than that of 'reactive stirrer': agree which whoever's currently gossiping to her, and amp it up.

The Craig/Anthony relationship seems to be entering middle age, in terms of comfortable sniping 'n' griping. One suspects that if Anthony were less good-natured or Craig more pushy (in terms of expecting actual sex as opposed to platonic 'rough-housing'), things would've fallen apart before now. As it is, it seems like a gay relationship nearing its sell-by date.

In decades past, Craig's evident attraction to seriously rough trade would've seen him beaten to death in an East End alleyway...

It's so booooring. Do something, you dreary numbskulls! Re-enact the Lord of the Flies with Craig as Piggy. Anything! Build a Wicker Man and put him in it.

Eugene isn't currently doing what it looks like he's doing, is he ?

I'm not sure anyone should have to look at that, if he is.

Bad Eugene.

(I really don't think I'm being a prude about this.)

EUGH stop rubbing cream into Craig's hand! And was that tipping Craig upside down into the pool earlier?

I'm won over to popular house analysis. Anthony is totally gay.

What was Eugene doing? Choking Kojak? His taxes?

What?

It looked a bit too close to the former for comfort, Ms T.

The girls on Australian Big Brother had a fanny farting competition.

I just thought I'd share that with you.

"I truly think I've been possessed by an evil spirit all week, and that's why I nominated Makosi..."

*sigh*

It's been so difficult to consistently warm to any one housemate this year. Every time one starts to think "X is the best of a bad bunch", they say or do something so twattish you start to despise them again...

The rather convoluted nomination/eviction twist this week seems to have gone down well. Who do we want out now? Vanessa?

Christ, it sounds like someone rode a bike into a flock of geese.

My favourite character is, and remains, the deadpan Big Brother

Kemal: Hello, babydoll
BB: Hello, Kemal

Anthony: How much love is in this diary room, right now?
BB: There's a lot of love in that diary room

Hee.

I txt'd for Vanessa, personally.

I *loved* the evil spirit thing.

It's gotta be Vanetha. Eugene bearing up well judging my the cheers. And I've become increasingly keen to see Craig and Anthony stay together. All shaping up nicely.

I really don't see the reason behind the Orla and Vanessa hate. Can anyone enlighten me?

Check the other pages, dude. But, basically, she's a creeping, vile, vicious, nasty, hateful, vapid piece of work. She's spent her entire time in the house sliming her way around those who she thinks have power because she has absolutely nothing of her own to offer.

Spatula Clarke
20:11 / 15.07.05
Oops. Vanessa that is.

That was... brutal. Science acting like a stroppy 5 year old as always.

BB: Science, will you please confirm your decision
Sci: Why y'doin' that, man?
BB: Please confirm your-
Sci: VAAANESSAAAAA! ALRIGHT!

Nice going, Science.

Undecided, my good half says they should've called it in once they got the 4 votes needed to get rid of Vanessa on grounds of torture, but my bad (possessed!) half loved it.

Oh, and bigger appreciation for Anthony! He took being the first voter incredibly stoically.

Well, that felt cruel and unusual. Excellent television, though.

Surprised to see how Kemal was the only one to offer some kind of sympathy vote.
I wonder if BB thought through how cruel that set up would be if everything conspired to evict Vanessa.

Ganesh
20:22 / 15.07.05
Having nominated Makosi for eviction in the Diary Room, Kemal really had to follow through. Glad he did.

Spatula Clarke
20:23 / 15.07.05
Yeah, but the voices told him to do that.

Triplets
20:25 / 15.07.05
Well it was clear once they had four votes that everyone else (even %morally outraged% Science) was going to vote for Vanessa anyway, just to avoid antagonising Makosi (which could make or break a nomination now it's down to six)

Ganesh
20:27 / 15.07.05
Good old Davina (looking tres Head Girl this evening), doing her usual 'comforting the shell-shocked' schtick - and still managing to prod Vanetha slightly on the anti-Kemal bitching.

Vanessa hate. Can anyone enlighten me?

Basically, she's like one of those fish that attach to the bellies of other fish and feed off them without giving anything back. Also, her voice is very irritating.

It did occur to me that it would be entertaining if Makosi went and Vanessa had to get by without her, but not funny enough to warrant sadness that she's left. I missed the eviction though, and just saw the last 'best of Vanessa' five minutes.

Five seconds, shurely?

Can a human being really be as stupid as Vanessa? Her housemates don't like her, the public can't stand her. Davina can bearly conceal her entirely justified contempt. But ooh look! Cameras! Flashing lights! Me am famous! She is as dumb as a post. She is as simple as plankton and the best thing is, I feel no guilt in sayinng this because she is also a nasty bit of work for whom self-awaria is a distant rumour.

Right! Now to see off Craig.

I was really hoping for someone, probably Science, to scream out "No I won't choose Fuck You".

I think it is fair to say, despite Kemal's solid follow through, we can expect conciliatory whisperings along the lines of "You know I voted Vanessa so she would have at least one vote to stay, you know I really love you Makosi" etc.

Smoothly
21:08 / 15.07.05
I'd have thought that once it got to the point where Vanessa votes had reached a majority (Ie. after halfway round the table), the decent thing to do would have been to vote Makosi (or, as Cistern says, abstain). Makosi would have understood that it was out of kindness, and it would have been something to mitigate Vanessa's humiliation.

I wonder if this will generate any complaints. You'd have to hate Vanessa like Flyboy not to grimace slightly for her.

Well, sure, that's a given. What else is Kemal gonna say to his remaining confidante? "I voted for Vanessa to stay because I liked her better than I like you?" Not likely.
