I don't know if this has been mentioned anywhere else, but I just noticed something while flipping thorough my copy of Seven Soldiers 0. On page 22, in the bottom right panel where we see the photograph of the original Seven Soldiers, is that the original/pre-Crisis Sir Justin there in the picture? I didn't notice him there when I read this the first time because i'd never read anything with the original Sir Justing in it. But looking at this again after having read the recent issue of Justice League Unlimited that he showed up in, the resemblance is spot on. It must be him.
Every little clue and connection in this story keeps growing it exponentially larger, and with pre and post Crisis Sir Justin existing in the same universe this adds a whole new layer of cosmic/hyper-time madness to the whole series.
I love how the tangled continuity universe cross-overs of the DC universe has been embraced as part of the story of the DC universe, with all these crazy philosophies and events to theorize/explain how it all comes together. Alternate realities, alternate Earths, crisis, hypertime. Even the bleed now that Wildstorm has merged with DC.
Back to Seven Soldiers: On pages 18 & 19 of issues 0, when they're doing the intos to all the heroes on the team, there's a giant blue and green face hanging in a picture fram on the wall between Boy Blue and Dyno-Mite Dan. Its covered in circuitry and looks very familiar. I'd swear that i've seen it somewhere before, in some other comic. Does anybody know who it is? It could be just background but its very very prominantly placed and really jumps out at you.
I also noticed that the Whip is biting herself and making herslef bleed on pages 9 and 10. I think i'm going to have to read this issue again to figure that one out. ("Why all the symbolism?" asks the magazine she's reading).
Has anybody looked closely at the preview image for the cover of Manhattan Guardian #4? The bottom half of the cover is the line up either the Newsboy Army or another incarnation of the Seven Soldiers (only six of them again). . . could that be a younger version of Gimmix standing there next to the young Ali-Kazoom? (assuming that that is Ali-Kazoom)
Okay, just one more before i log off, this one personally blew me away, and is a good bit of evidence for those of us in the Castle Revolving = Outer Church camp (assuming its not just me, lol). I was reading the trade paper back for Finder: King of Cats (God I love Finder) and while i was reading through the annotations in the back i came across this little piece of info:
"Mesnie Harlequin is a name used in France for the Wild Hunt. Some sources say "harlequin" or "helliquin" is derived from "hell king" and denotes a minor demon. Mesnie Harlequin is believed to be a portent of disaster, plague, and war, and was reported to have darkened the sun twice before the outbreak of the Revolution. The Wild Hunt is said to capture harmless and benevolent spirits, changing their natures to demonic ones and adding them to their ranks."
Nebuloh and the Wild Hunt = the Harlequinade? I love it! |
