ONLY NICE THINGS
15:20 / 13.03.05
I'm not sure if that's significant.

Well, the original Seven Soldiers didn't have superpowers - but Zatanna and Klarion *do* have superpowers, no matter how they came by them...

Yeah, it was reaching a bit.

Well, I'm assuming this is just the general Seven Soldiers thread for the time-being, so...

Covers have been leaked for Klarion #2 (here), Zatanna #2(here), and Shining Knight #3(here).

Those covers are beautiful - thanks for the links! that Klarion cover is especially intense.

Oh, so very dinner!

Y'know, I have to admit to a dislike of getting The Ultimates out in public. The covers are so gross - terrible design - but this stuff, It all looks so great.

Just a thought today whilst shearing DNA...Are the Ultramarines downloaded into the Qwewq reality to protect the infant universe (our own?)that then becomes the hyperkindtime storytelling universe of 7 soldiers and each Ultramarine has a chance to redeem theirselves as a new character ie one of the new 7 soldiers(Shining Knight=Squire, Zatanna=The Guy who rewrites reality,Warmaker 1= Frankenstien, Cyril=The Guardian,Jack-o-Lantern=MR Miracle etc? Maybe not enough sleep

Shearing DNA? Is that what you kids call it these days?

I like the whole reincarnation angle. Seven Soldiers, Seven Mystery Men, Seven Knights. Seven Seven Seven. It seems to me their are seven key hero essences or destinies floating about, managed by - or, more likely, a part of - the Seven Mystery Men. The Seven Mystery Morrisons all look the same because they need to incarnate in real-time as flesh and blood heroes.

Unfortunately, equating them directly to the seven Ultramarines is spurious at best. What do you base the comparison on? Visual appearence? Sex? Power set? Nothing matches up completely.

I really wonder if the whole 'ultramarines in Qweuqzz' (spelling, whatever) / Neb-uh-Loh thing from JLA will be significantly referenced here. i.e. will the Ultramarines pop out of Neb-uh-Loh to do some cool thing in the final bookend issue?

The Falcon
22:37 / 15.03.05
I'd think and hope not.

While the Class(ified) arc was a prologue, I know folks who didn't buy it (more fool them, I know.) and it would kind've spoil the self-containedness of what they're calling 'comic first megaseries'.

Oh man that Shining Kight cover is just the SEX, isn't it?

Hmmm, but they will have to be referenced somehow, Duncan. It's a bit of a huge loose end.

I understand your worries, Dunc. If the Ultramarines triumphantly leap out of Nebby, fists aglow and grinning, I will have to cry "deus ex machina".

That said, Pappuce has a point. It WON'T be left hanging.

The Falcon
20:27 / 16.03.05
It wouldn't really be a Deus Ex, given the prior mention.

I expect oblique ref, make no mistake.

But he's put the chaps on hold once before, and this - if it ain't part of the whole sentientialise the DCU (full marks for ambition there) - smacked of doing so again (+ commentary on realist superheroes/Mark Millar's work.)

The Natural Way
21:57 / 16.03.05
What "prior mention"? If S7 is to be a self-contained series, they can't just detonate that love-bomb without it looking a little suss. Equally, they can't just be left in Limbo. How, the JLA Classified reader will ask, did Nebby turn to the dark-side inspite of all their best efforts?

Though, TBH, I'm not Flowers and co., so I'm hardly losing sleep over this'n.

Yeah, but it will *feel* that way.

does anyone else think that giving the ultramarines qweewq was about as stupid a thing as the jla could possibly do? 'well, we can't stand you frankly, you're powerful and reckless and prone to nimby fascism, here, have a whole universe to yourself where you'll be as powerful as gods.'

supes' assumption that it was a few grains of gas from black hand (or whatever he's called) that turned the innocent wee fella into the wild huntiverse, and not the militaristic nobody-likes-us-we-don't-care superheroes they send in to clean up, was as dumb as this.

huh... Zatanna soon to be a DC film...?

---------------------

Davis Conjures Zatanna

Writer Hadley Davis told SCI FI Wire that she is drafting the script for a movie adaptation of Zatanna, the venerable DC Comics sorceress, with an update for a teen audience. "It's sort of an obscure DC Comic book," Davis said in an interview. "Well, I say that, and then people who know comic books know the comic. It has existed for years and years, but she is a female magician. It's for Warner Brothers and [producer] Denise DiNovi, and we've made her sort of a teen magician."

Full story at link below; be warned, the column gives plot information for the Zatanna mini coming up from Morisson's 7 Soldiers project.

It's not like that though; Superman goes: "You want to be realistic heroes, then? Here's a job, go and be a covert JLA (or Q, whatever.)"

knowing full well that one way or another they were going to fuck it and nebuloh was gonna be the result. supes has been dealing with time loops for long enough to know when to back off and leave things alone.

err, i don't think he does mate. seriously, the last time i had to deal with a time loop, did my actions result in two bookends and seven four-part miniseries of 'oh shit this entire universe is coming to kill us all'? no. no they didn't.

I prefer the first edition cover.

Interesting how the 2nd edition cover's 'faces' (of the "new" Seven Soliders) aren't actually new art but just shots from various the covers pasted together.

Maybe the 3rd printing (if they do one) will be the Manhattan Guardian holding the dead body of one of the lot from SEVEN SOLDIERS #0 as a bunch of obscure 4th-rate DC heroes look on in horror.

Has anybody noticed any Seven Soldiers graffiti?

There's this one guy/gang who leaves distinctive tags all up and down I-95 -- either "Normel" or "YNOT," with a few other initials and things mixed in. Some of it's really lovely, detailed multicolor work, and some of it is kind of hasty but in unexpected places, like a sign hanging over the freeway, or a big "YNOT" on the side of a truck doing construction work along the median. (Bet *that* driver was happy to be working that day....)

Anyway, at least three weeks ago, I noticed Normel had hit one of the soundproofing walls they put up along the highway not far from where I live.

Along with the usual couple of tags (written really large) was a new one: "SeVen Soliders."

And a few miles further down, on the side of an old warehouse I noticed a "7S" next to some YNOT tags.

Is it just that the graffitistes in South Florida are comics-savvy, is it a coincidence, or is this series being embraced by a different segment of the population than one might expect?

Yeah, my graffiti-doing French mate gets a mag of all the shit round Europe, and therein I found a diorama of various New X-Men (inc. the Sublime Beast) whupping some monster.

Fortress of Solitude?

This one?

I've tried to pay attention to graffiti around here for a while now, and never noticed anything comics-related before (although I might not recognize some comics stuff at all).

I've noticed a few more "7S" tags, less elaborate than the others, always around some "YNOT" tags. Makes my commute more fun.
