According to the solicits, Ronin is going to be Captain America's entry into the team (much as Wolvie was Iron Man's).
Fuck yeah! Batroc's gonna be an Avenger! (hopefully)

Oh, God, please.

Batroc the Leaper... Avenger.

It's probably Someone incredibly lame, though (no, Batroc is NOT lame... blasphemer). Diamondback, anyone?

Jack Denfeld
04:59 / 19.08.05
No dude. Not Diamondback. She is lame. Batroc! He swore to go on the straight and narrow when he thought Cap was dying. He's always been Cap's most honorable foe. From scanning some of the villians in that raft breakout in issue 1 I think Bendis has some serious Marvel geek in him too. And. Batroc knows how to use numchucks.

Fuck nunchucks, Batroc could kill you with a toothbrush. He's that hardcore.

I really, really want it to be Batroc. I would actually buy the book if he was in it.

Got this from Batroc's homepage.
Captain America #359

Batroc: Well, Baron, if zey mean to sacrifice us, at least our greatest enemy weel die weeth us!
Baron Zemo: Oh, Shut up Batroc!

New question: Whatever happened to Baron Zemo? He had the coolest purple ski mask.

Bendis does a really good Spiderman.

It's funny, I can never, ever get into Ultimate Spiderman, but Bendis really does write the grown-up version better than anyone else I can think of who's had the chance recently. His Spiderman was just as good when he showed up in an issue of Daredevil.

"Oopsie, broke my tricycle!"

I find New Av totally boring and Bendis's dialogue increasingly irritating, but that line was good.

Fabian Niceza has been doing all kinds of stuff with Baron Zemo (I think it's the son who's active now) in the post-Kurt Busiek Thunderbolts, the miniseries years ago Citizen V and the V Battalion' and the New Thunderbolts series...first had the son as some sort of 'is he evil or is he good' character...then implied it was the father in a new body...I really didn't follow it all and lost interest in Thunderbolts pretty much a few months after Busiek left.

>> Ronin is going to be Captain America's entry into the team

Weeeird.... I have no idea what to guess or expect. Maybe the 'reformed' Bucky aka The Winter Solider from Brubaker's current run, once Cap talks some sense into him...?

The Winter Soldier stuff is going to go on for a long time, apparently.... the plot is going to wind between Cap, Wolverine and New Avengers for at least a year, apparently.

and as to Zemo, he's currently back to deformed hood-wearing villian status (at the end of Avengers vs. Thunderbolts) after a brief stint as a morally ambiguous, handsome hero-type. He had decided to try and save the world, simply because it would be something that his father never could have done. It's worth noting that he got disfigured again by saving Captain America.

He's crazy, yo.

"Ronin"'s suit is very reminiscent of Iron Fist's costume. I don't think that's a mistake.

One of the 1st few issues Cap let's that SHIELD lady he has authorization to form any kind of team with any group of people. This made me think it would be cool if (bear with me, Cap is my favorite superhero of all time) anytime Cap was fighting with anyone, they automatically became the Avengers. Like if the U.S. president decided to catch a TWA flight, that would automatically be Air Force 1, so if Cap ended up fighting some baddies with Razorback and Peepers because he just happened to be in the same shopping mall as them, then they would aoutomatically be the Avengers for that fight.

It would be cool if the "Avengers" actually had to "Avenge" something.

Yes. Did you read New Avengers #6? I think that's sort of the point of Bendis' long-term story arc here.

"We'll find out who did this. And then we'll avenge it."

someone recently pointed out that Spider-Man's arm is broken in the events of #1 or 2 or whatever and then the next day it's fine, not even in a sling. That bugged me too, Spidey even mentions this injury later on in the Savage Land, but I let it go and just said 'ahh whatever.' Still, it would have been nice to address this. Super-fast healing isn't a Spidey thing.

It is now. Ultimate Bendis Spidey has his arm broken every other month.

I think Marvel tried to address this some years back. While the healers , like Wolverine and DEadpool etc regenerate in seconds or minuites depedant on wounds etc.

People with superhuman strenght and stamina still heal a darn site quicker then normal people . So say Spidey can heal a broken arm (or at least have it useable) in say 2 days ?

So the entire world's memory of the Sentry (and the Void) was erased by none other than Mastermind, the Marvel villain who psyched many of us out years back into thinking Madeline Pryor was Jean Grey reborn. But Mastermind was aided in this Sentry brainwashing by a mystery villain...any guesses who? (the only visual guess in the issue is that the character seems to be wearing a hat like a policeman's cap)

Now, this is comics. Superhero longunderwear comics from Marvel. But, still, I have to: Isn't Thunderbolt Ross dead. Like, twice in the last ten years?

Yeah but, supposedly this shit happened a long time ago.

So here we have a Marvel hero that is as strong as Superman, with more energy powers than Superman AND has telepathic abilities and no aversion to any substances—earthly or otherwise. He can create unstoppable monsters from the power of his sheer angst. And it seems his biggest weakness, being a little touched in the head, is about to be fixed.

We need the rest of the team because......

Triplets

Because he doesn't have SALES POWER!

You could ask the same about Martian Manhunter and the answer is: because he can't support his own book.

Imaginary Mongoose Solutions

Because on his bad days he's an agorophobic paranoid schizophrenic with memory implants. (Wait, does that mean he has a hard time reading comics?) And given that he was once convinced that he had an evil darkside and was then convinced that he needed to expunge his memory from the world to stop said dark side from killing everyone... hell, the Avengers are sort of in a "oops, look what we let out of the box" situation.

New Avengers #11 spoliers:

So, Ronin:

Isn't Daredevil.
Isn't somebody Cap knows.
Is somebody Daredevil trusts absolutely.
Is somebody who is an expert on the Yak and the Hand and has the same training as Daredevil.
Is somebody who is connected to the Kingpin.
Has long black hair.
Had to be asked by Cap to refrain from killing.
Is the subject of a lot of careful gender wording. The only person who refers to them as a "he" is Cap and that's before he meets them. And the book makes a point of stressing that.

I'd think Stone except for the hair (he's bald) and the Fisk part... stone has no tie to Fisk.

All other clues point to Elektra but he really dosen't act like her. And I can't imagine Cap hiring her.

Mark Parsons
05:51 / 29.09.05
Wasn't Elektra sort of working for SHIELD during Millar's Wilverine arc which would nix her due to Cap's line to Murdock about not wanting to work with Fury and company.

FinderWolf
13:10 / 29.09.05
If it's not Elektra, some have theorized that it's obscure Marvel kung-fu legend Shang-Chi, Master of Kung Fu.

But it looks like Elektra, esp. given history with the Kingpin. This is a fun little mystery Bendis has given us, though. New Avengers has turned out to be a lot more fun than I thought it would be.

well Luke Cage asks "who's that?" when RONIN makes an appearance. I doubt he would be in the dark about his long time friend's joining he team.

Elektra in drag?

Didn't Stone die some time ago (amidst Elektra's first resurection)? Could it be one of stick's other students? Seems a bit too obscure.

Mario
16:00 / 29.09.05
It's probably Slver Samurai

Triplets
16:37 / 29.09.05
It's Wolverine.

Cap finally figured out the guy can be in two places at once.

Mark Parsons
18:26 / 29.09.05
A ronin is a masterless samurai, which is a Japanese thing, so Iron Fist and Shang Chi are out as candidates, being from other Asian countries/disciplines.

I'm hoping it's not Elektra and that the surprise is actually surprising...

Imaginary Mongoose Solutions
18:39 / 29.09.05
Stone has come back several times... and yeah, he is comparatively pretty obscure. He also has no ties to Wilson Fisk and is bald.

Elektra is the only person who really fits all the current given evidence... but she also makes the lease sense. I hope it's not her.

But who else has Daredevil's training, his absolute trust, his knowledge of the hand and the yaks, has long dark hair, and has been tied to the Kingpin?
