Hmm... I notice that Neeson's wearing Batgloves - with the three little spike things along the forarms - during the sword-training shots in the trailer. I wonder if Ducard is going to help Bruce design the Batsuit?
It's hard to say from the trailers thus far whether I'm excited about this or not. It certainly looks Batman, which is a huge plus; the brief shot of Batman on the rooftop with his cloak swirling about him is cool, as the lack of big swirly capes is one of the things that made the previous Batman movie costumes look so stiff and strange. I also like the wintry blues and rusty sepiatones of the photography, and Bale is rocking a suitably "preppy-barely-managing-to-subdue-violent-rage" look. Rather more so than, say, Adam West did, although I fear it may be harder than I hoped to separate the buffed-up crimefighting Bale of Batman Begins from the buffed-up serial-killing Bale of American Psycho. Hopefully his performance will put those thoughts to rest.
I'm markedly less keen on the big explodeyness towards the end, although since nowadays the grammar of trailer cutting seems to dictate inclusion of at least five seconds' worth of footage of things blowing up per trailer, this may not be reflected in the film itself. Hopefully. Also, "are you ready to begin?" is, uh, a little heavy-handed. It's the title! DO YOU SEE?
It looks like it's being made with all the right comic-book references in mind, but then so did Daredevil... I admit that my judgement may also be affected by an acute case of "grim Batman" fatigue brought on by the Batman's sci-fi closet in JLA Classified . Is it too much to hope for the Rainbow Batman to make an appearance in the sequel...? |
