Is this for real? GARY OLDMAN!?!?!?!?

Bizarre....just cause he's famous and a great actor doesn't mean he's right for the role of Jim Gordon. Oldman looks a little too bizarre or has too bizarre a vibe for Jim Gordon, I think. I much preferred the Meg Ryan's ex-husband casting idea the producers were looking at - what is his name - he was in that baseball movie a while ago....aw man, I can't remember it.

But I want Oldman to win me over, no doubt.

Dennis Quaid. Whatever, I think Oldman could convince me he was a black women if he wanted to, that's how amazing he is as an actor. Gordon will be a cake walk for him.

Dennis Quaid.

Also, how is the fiftysomething oldman going to look like a YOUNG cop?

Some comments from aintitcoolnews:

>> Gary Oldman is a great actor, but he is the quintessential eccentric. Jim Gordon is the wrong character for him to play in this movie. Gordon is the ultimate everyman in the Batman mythos. He is a smart regular guy who is a solid cop. He is the opposite of eccentric. Why was Oldman cast as this character? It doesn't make any sense to me.

Oldman can play ANY role, just wait. He will pull it off.

I think he's sort of too weird-looking/old/kinda ugly to play a young Jim Gordon. But, I do have faith in his acting ability.

Some people are concerned that the film is becoming too top-heavy with stars (in small and larger roles). What do you all think?

I have faith in Nolan & Co., despite my reservations...

Oldman would do a great Riddler, Two-Face, or even Joker - not in this continuity, though - but Gordon?

let's hope.

They might as well just extend this latest gem of a title to "Batman Begins Another Shitty String Of Movies".

I think it will be a suprise this one, but as long as it's a little darker.

It's got the writer of (i think it has anyway) Dark City and Insomnia, and it has Christian Bale, Gary Oldman, Micheal Cane, Liam Neeson.....it can do it. I hope.

Yes i really hope.

Let's cast sigils for Batman!!!!!

that true romance thing is a joke right? the bit where he's the white rasta, cramming the scenery down his throat as fast as he can grab it?

nah, unless we can cast sigils in order to make money out of it they don't need us - or we can use Batman as a sigil for ourpurposes. other than that not worth the effort.

Bombs away!!!!!!!
Surprise, surprise, once again another shitty casting decision!

This:
>> Gary Oldman is a great actor, but he is the quintessential eccentric. Jim Gordon is the wrong character for him to play in this movie. Gordon is the ultimate everyman in the Batman mythos. is right on the money.

Dennis Quaid was the obvious choice and no he's not too old. Gordon in Batman Year One would've definitely been in his mid to late forties as he had served in the millitary and been a staple in the Chicago PD. In the current run of Batman he's already retired putting his age somewhere around 65. If the continuity of DC comics is still the same and the Batman has been around for "roughly ten years", this would put Gordon's age around 50-55 in Year One.

...Holy fuck I can't believe:
a. I just felt the compelling need to post that last snippet.
b. I actually did so.

Holy fuck, that's pretty damn cool. This is a great coincidence, since I was just thinking yesterday, "I bet they'll release photos of either the new Batmobile or Bale in the Bat-suit in the next few days." Where did you get these? Aint It Cool News??

Where is this movie set? Is it going to be strictly Gotham City (like all the other bat-films) or will there be globe hopping? I know they're shooting in Iceland and Ra's al Ghul it not based in America... so it might me cool to see Batman flying all over the world like say Indiana Jones or James Bond.

Niiiiiiice. I knew they were going more for a military/industrial vibe with the design but that blows anything I expected out of the way. Totally steeps this film more in reality than smug-elegant Deco stylings.

I was rather exited at first but... eh...

it looks rather intimidating, which is good for what it's for, but its front is a bit ugly. the back looks good, though - with the fire ass and everything [except for the wingies]. maybe by the end of the movie it will have other things added. too much Humvee to my tastes. could have gone for the Lamborghini look.

to me the Batman movies' tone is early reflected on the Batmobile design. so this is bound to be efficient and 'realistic', in a boring way. I don't know, can those monster tires help reach great speeds? producers have been raving about the CGI-free chase scene for a while now.

and is it really supposed to morph into a cube or am I just crazy?

Am I a freak for thinking "Gosh, I picture Bruce Wayne as having black or really dark brown hair, and Bale has medium brown hair that they obviously didn't make darker at all?"

I think I am.

From Super Hero Hype, an interview with Christian Bale:

--------

Best of all though, he rather angrily denied that he was making a "comic book movie" and said that that was actually an insult to the millions of fans out there. He said "We're making a film based on a much loved graphic novel. I think to use the term 'comic book' really under values the source material!"

And at the interview's end, Bale said that he cannot say much at all about the project but that if he had to describe it, he would say - and get this for uber-coolness - it "is a cross between Serpico and The French Connection mixed with a really fucking cool samurai, kung fu movie, and there's like some really strong 70s conspiracy movie vibes in their too! It is definitely not a Batman that you've seen on screen before."

Also, from Comic Book Resources, some interesting bits from Rutger Hauer:

-------

Rutger Hauer is yapping it up at his official site, discussing working with Morgan Freeman, Liam Neeson and Michael Caine. "I was going to work today with Morgan Freeman who I think is one of the best colleagues to have, ever. Never met him. So the moment he arrived I grabbed and hugged him telling him what a pleasure I thought it was. He agreed. I had met Liam Neeson earlier on the day I had arrived a few weeks ago just before going into my first meeting with the director and getting the part. As I walked through the hotel corridor I literally bumped into him as he came out the door. I said, 'Hi Liam. Nice to meet you.' He said' yes, same here.' And I said we may be working together. He said, 'Great. Nice. Lovely.' He had just come back from Iceland and told me the director was wonderful. After Morgan and I rehearsed we did our little scene with smile behind teeth and eyes. Short and sweet but with many different angles. nI am still on the look-out for Gary Oldman. Never met him either. Just good to say hello. Michael Caine knocked on the door of my trailer and stepped in. We embraced furiously and he was just as happy to see me as I was to see him. We worked in Kenya in pffft '75. What a nice man he is. Told him I was happy for him in the gem of a role he's playing. So it was a great heart warming day."

Verrry innnteresting....looks ok. Something gave me the idea they were going to go with small bat-ears this time, but I guess not, those still look pretty long. The cowl looks ok - kinda sculpted very similar to the previous Bat-movies.

I was exited to hear that they've also got the Scarecrow in. However, I am skeptical that they've got Cillian Murphy. I would've perferred Jeffery Combs.

If Nolan doesn't completely fuck up, this movie will kick some major ass. There was a script leaked a few weeks ago, and I read a bit of it. It has, I believe, been pretty much taken off the web by this point, though.

The movie takes place in a variety of locations, and follows not only the bat's early adventures, but his training in Asia, in a parallel converging story with the main one, a la Godfather Pt. II. Rhas and co. have a part in his training. The dialogue is very much Year one, and a major issue in the movie is bats' psycholigical desire for revenge conflicting with his sense of justice. There are a number of scenes that are IMHO, pretty much perfect. There is a scene toward the end that provides some great in for a sequel, as well as being kick-ass (its alot like the last scene in Year One). Im going to leave it at that for fear of divulging more than I should. Suffice it to say this should be good. They really landed the mix of dark and comic-y, while at the same time maintaining a fair amount of psychological content.
