yeah, Boboss, those are probably masks worn by the Joker's gang in an interesting robbery scene that Film Ick has reviewd from the script here [contains minor spoilers].

Sorry for the enormo-pic, but this should be the first decent pic of Heath Ledger as The Joker.

A little bit Joker, a little bit Kakihara from Ichi The Killer, a lot junkie. Also his nose and chin should be a lot more pointy.

if this is not a fake make-up test [why would it portray WBs logo in the bottom? what about the extra finger?] - it's a picture of a picture, still not proper lighting and all... could not even be Ledger.

and I actually hope it's not him. doesn't look good to me =/

too Crow-y

What is up with that hand? Jokermutations?

Y'know, I'd by a TPB of an 'Eight-fingered Joker' story. Even if it just meant Batman is going to hold down his hands one at a time and shoot his thumbs off.

Then again, everything that looks bad in a photograph, in life, or on video, is somehow perfect for film, given the right lighting and choice angles and shot-speed.

come to think of it... he does look like an younger nicholson at this point. for better or worse.

I wonder if the 'scars on the cheeks that connect to the mouth' has any relation to Grant Morrison's "new" version of the Joker having the same scars in his recent Batman stuff...?

It's just a makeup test shot, hardly indicative of how he looks in actual performance. Looks ok to me. The performance, camera angles, lighting in the actual film etc. will be the real barometer. If you showed people a picture of Christian Bale's bat-suit with crappy lighting 6 months before BATMAN BEGINS premiere, it would like have met with apprehensive reactions as well (and if memory serves, it did).

*lol* at the extra finger... maybe it is indeed fake, and the WB logo is there to convince people it's real.

plus, why is this new Joker playing with a Rubik's cube?

[that's a joke, folks; I know what the thing is]

Cheek-scars are, I would presume, a reference to 'Ichi the Killer'. The Miike film, most like, rather than the comic. Which, is appropriate, since that is one of the best Batman/Joker lovestories ever done.

[tell me, then!]

the extra finger seems to be jut some chubby piece of flesh from Heath's hand. But it does make you pause, does it not?

Hm. The more I keep coming back to the picture, the more I like it. It's very much got the grounded tone the new movies are going for.

Remember when the Batesuit first got revealed? Everyone hate hate hated it. Then they saw it moving, under the right light (as DecDay says) and it was great.

oh, if you're serious - that thing is a color test thingie. Used to make sure colors are accurate, used to gauge those primary 'color wheel' colors against the colors in the pic...it's a technical photography thing.

I could see where the 'extra finger' is just his palm, as many are theorizing -- the '6th finger' effect could just be because of some shadows that make it appear as such.

Heck you can see responses to the costume from the last flick just by hitting the midpoint of this thread. And people suggesting the 'Dead End' guy should've been given the cinematic reins. Seriously, so long as this film avoids any whine whine daddy! whine business with Joker and Bruce, it's all good. If it includes goosing a tightass, it's better.

Do you think we could be so lucky as to have actual goosing?

Given it's Ledger and Bale? They kinda owe it to the audience. Imagine: Day of DVD release, and all across the globe people are getting their slashtastic supertights jollies with a simple freeze-frame and magnification.

And I'm all for less Killing Joke and more A Serious House on Serious Earth

WB needs to release a decently shot professional pic soon before the fans sour that Joker look early.

Whilst, for obvious reasons, I'm loathe to get involved with any discussion about he merits or faults of any design, make-up or costume choices outside of the context of the actual movie, I'd frankly be very surprised if the Joker doesn't look something like that. Nolan likes to ground everything, and a scarred, face painted version seems rather likely given that fact.

Nah, the scars and makeup don't bother me so much as the lack of a rictus grin.

Gwynplaine please.

And look at that... with the swiftness of the Webtubes comes word that 'test shot' is entirely fan-made.

Details here.

I liked it, being still a test or already definitive.

(I'll refrain from saying anything else, and keep myself contained on the contrary to my huge-ass long post that it was my first intent)

I liked it. Very much like Miller's Bowie Joker from Dark Knight Returns with little Midnight Clown/Ichi the Scar-Face Killer for flavour.

Excited again.

I would be utterly thrilled if they used Miike's version of Kakihara as a template for the Joker.

The manga and live action Kakiharas are quite different... Miike's is much more of an insane rock star. Awesomeness abounds.

then he'd be a bit like the Punisher's Jigsaw, wouldn't he?...

I just came back from watching CANDY at the local arthouse. there are no 'he goes mad with laughter' moment there, but I believe more now than I did before that Ledger can pull off a convincing Joker.
