The Return Of Rothkoid
12:34 / 09.03.03
Well, I'm still up. It's 1:30ish in the morning and I'm making myself some tea before I finish a fuck-off sized blogpost about my weekend. I have had a really good couple of days with an old friend who's leaving the country, so it was cool but sad, also. I'm sitting around in that post-visit haze, looking at things in an unfocussed way and wondering if this ache in my chest (actual, physical, rather than metaphorical) is Something Bad. Coupled with my persistend not-a-tumour headache, it makes me worry.

I've also been making Paleface envious with photos of my kitchen. As you do.

Well, I was up until 4am. Which is kinda late. Who's up now?

I am, trying to avoid working on my miniscule midterm essay, due tomorrow.

I'm up and bored out of my skull. I've actually been busy the past week what with school and work (yes, someone actually gave me a job), so now I'm at loose ends since this is the beginning of spring break and I don't work tonight.

Up, exhausted, and fucked off with my computer which is tempramental to say the least. Spent the evening reviewing singles and gigs on a radio show. Am now very tired. Have masses to do before the week is out.

I want a cat.

Hey. Garlic and herb pittas with cheese, soft low lighting, Lift to Experience on the stereo. Evening all.

Mmm, nummy. What sort of cheese?

Seth
21:53 / 09.03.03
Tesco's Irish Medium Cheddar, improved immeasurably by slight melting. Still hungry though. Monster Munch.

Have just been to see Adaptation, had a Chinese and been to the seaside this afternoon. Oh and got up at 10.30am - very weird!

Sounds like a good day, Anna. Did you enjoy the movie?

I hate hate hate Microsoft Word 2002. Hate it Hate it Hate it. Hate it like I hate Ted Hughes.

(Excellent, someone else hates Ted Hughes!)

I really enjoyed the film, particularly the bits that made me jump, beautifully self- referential and the opening sequences were fan- bloody- tastic... and all that after Crispy Duck. Mmmmmmm.

What flavour Monster Munch??

Seth
22:09 / 09.03.03
It's got to be Flaming Hot. I've slept for hours and seen Vanilla Sky today (for the second time, with many pauses to explain it to Snapping Turtle. She's wonderful, but can't handle texts that deal with any kind of abnormal reality).

Tryphena Absent

Aah, you have fantastic monster munch taste!

Haus, what's it doing? Bar its inability to handle large documents, do booklets, and bugger up indices, Word 2000 isn't bad.

Not bad != good, though.

The Return Of Rothkoid
22:15 / 09.03.03
Ooh, cheese. I got a sandwich press from a friend, yesterday, and spent last night grilling things... cafe-style.

We just had a fire drill at work. Which cemented for me the idea that working on the top floor of a 12-storey building will see me burnt to death before I attain salvation.

Bummer.

I would like a cat, too. Although I don't think my place allows them. Grr. A cat is what Chez Smooth is in dire need of, for armchair-guarding purposes.

How long has it been since I tried Monster Munch, I ask myself? A decade or more, I imagine...

Word 2002 is insisting on asking for the install disk whenever it checks my mail spelling (now removed that functionality) and at various other odd moments, and then tells me that I have no OFFICE1.CAB file on my install disk. Which is quite true, but I don't feel it makes me a bad person. I want to uninstall it and reinstall, but there's a decent chance I won't be able to reinstall it.

At which point I just start using OpenOffice all the time, but chanign the files irritates me.

A decade! That's atrocious, I think you should buy a packet of flaming hot tomorrow, you have no idea just how yummy they are!

Goodnight everybody!

The cat that should be Rothkoid's. (Bottom left of top panel.)

I too long for a cat. Two actually. But I'm broke, and so I'm waiting until I have some bills paid off so that I can actually afford to feed and clothe them and such.

Haus, the only consolation I can offer is that you could be getting bitched by the Lotus Notes instead.

Fuck. Bottom right side of the panel, rather.

Bleh. Slightly braindead in a simultaneously 'want to sleep' and 'want to stay awake' way, after a rather full weekend. Antwerp good, Janssen-Cilag bad; Belgian chocolate good, 48 hours with colleagues bad; 'Far From Heaven' good, imminent-war-related crankiness bad.

That's definitely Rothkoid's cat, though, innit?

Mazarine
23:15 / 09.03.03
Sure 'nuff is. I'm not sure if you could train a cat to use a bubble-pipe, though. My future mother in law has plans to get a small yippy dog which she intends to carry around in a purse at all times. Thus, I will need a cat large enough to terrify said dog into a coma. Or perhaps persuade my fiance to go the road of the crazy shut in with me (we're like 3/4 of the way there) and get like twenty of them.

The Return Of Rothkoid

Must. Train. Cats.

I always picture cats as wearing smoking jackets, though. Don't know why.

In other news, work has installed internet filtering software. So I think there'll be circumspect browsing here now... gah.

I like the theory from Matt Ruff's "Fool on the Hill" that cats can read and dogs can't.

Low lighting, Morton Feldman on the stereo, drinking leftover Fosters from my party until I'm sleepy.

Swapped shifts tomorrow so I can attend a hospital appointment. Six AM start.

Hello chaps

Typo - that came out as 'Hellp chaps' which is just about right - yet another blind panic session with lovely Access setting in. Getting really into the idea of spaces being important for early modern communities though - v interesting, thread in the offing perhaps... and more to the point, only a few days until I shut up about this for good

Day was OK - was so knackered in the morning that I went to sleep in the common room at the IHR while all the eminent academics had their eminent coffee. Then I did lots of useful work, and then I met the director of the Centre for Metropolitan History who was ever so nice and gave me some very useful tips. Then I left my wallet there and only realised halfway to Marble Arch (on foot). Chiz moan drone etc.

I owe you many thanks, BiP... how you?

& hugs for you reflect.

no worries, sweetheart.

and this

. Getting really into the idea of spaces being important for early modern communities though

sounds really interesting, care to expand? d'you mean social spaces? geographical/architectural spaces? legal/ettiquette-abbsed spaces?

Or perhpas its a little late for this, I'm just waiting for my cheese toasties (as, care of the elf, now have a proper toastie machine) and then orf to bed. God. I've progressed %so much% since being a student.

I'm cool. lot more chilled than previously, bit tired, but that's from a good manic w/e and unplanned drinks with Tez tointe.

how you, apart from teh Access/panic (have muchly admiration, that kind of thing would drive me in-sane)

Reflect- I'm with BiP, hope it's nothing serious and GO TO BED!

I'm bored as hell. Listening to all my music in rotation, skipping over anything depressing, wishing that I had a job in which I could do whatever I pleased to my hair while browsing what colors Manic Panic still has to offer.

Anyone else doing anything fun?

I'm OK, just sporadically a bundle of nerves when I consider the horror of the upcoming seminar paper... cold sweat, etc. Glad you're calm...

Yeah, spaces - physical and social, really, and alos cultural - they're all enmeshed together - you have the communities clustered in x parish which overlaps with the merchant community who are parish members but who also interact with each other at the Royal Exchange and the coffee houses, and since the Royal Society is based round there you get this kind of intellectual/cultural/financial ferment which is located in specific areas of London and which probably wouldn't have occurred in the same way had those spatial arrangements been different. Rant rant :-)

Cheese toasties good...

hi hon.

what colo(u)r do you fancy most? I still get a chldish amount of glee out of being able (as dolescum, having done corporate stuff at times) to do silly hair things...

Have been red/black for a while now, but am thinking about blue/black...
