Well done reflect!

And the board was spared by my inability to find a free computer (we have two hundred in the school!! and not one free!!) from Crisses of Infinite Mapping Of Navel when I thought that my resit of a paper where I got 17 marks out of 105 had resulted in... 5 out of 105. But it's OK! My teachers are just arseholes and so read it off a printout that only printed double figures buyt they didn't tell me that, and just told me the 5! And it was four hours until I could try and check what was going on... to find out I'd gotten 105 out of 105.

Then I got drunk. Joy!

Fortean Times had an article this week headlined "Picnic Table Mocks Christ", which I liked.

Today a man said to me, among other things:

"so we'll peel back your gum"

"that's a big cyst"

"it's likely you're going to have to lose the tooth anyway"

and

"you're okay with this all being done under local anaesthetic, aren't you?"

Which would have been mildly disturbing had he not been a dentist, but since he *was* it was - well, on one level less disturbing, I'll admit, but on another, probably more. I don't care just yet because I have to go on a waiting list for months, but in a few months I suspect I shall care very, very deeply. (What kind of sick bastard peels back someone's gum?)

Ouch. OUCH. Hugs, hon.

and what's the fetish for local anaesthetic, this is the second tale i've heard recently about having l.a. for someting you'd probably much rather be knocked on the head for...

is it cheaper or something? are they saving the good stuff for their Christmas parties?

23:15 / 13.03.03
Safer. And although obviously local anaesthetic is a vile idea, I don't like the idea of general much (you're unconscious and there's always a small risk that you'll die). thanks for the hugs!

now I am going to bed to spend as much time as I can with my tooth, before I become a crone. night-night dear.

OIC. I guess that makes sense.

I hope you've got some days out planned for you and yr tooth; take it to the seaside, win it a cuddly toy at the fair. Fill its last days with happiness...

N'night.

(rereading my own post, should probably get some sleep m'self)

AAARGGHHH!!! Well, Deva, I can safely say that I am now not going to finally get round to getting my teeth sorted next week as planned.

The Return Of Rothkoid

Ooch. My mother had that done - infected jawbone. She's terrified of needles, so she had it done without anaesthetic.

Jesus.

bip: I think dentists tend not to use generals (in terms of knockout gas) because isn't there meant to be a higher incidence of going-to-sleep-and-never-waking-up under that form of anaesthesia? There's some newish super-weird thing that they tend to use in wisdom teeth procedures now; like a cross between sodium pentathol and some obscenely strong dopey stuff, 'cos you can't feel anything but you spill your guts...

If you can avoid getting your wisdom teeth taken out, do, it sucks. It's expensive and painful and it's a waste of two weeks.

That sounds completely foul, good luck! *shudder*

Mine are gonna have to get yanked soon. Three years' stalling is enough. I'm just waiting for the moment I get nerve damage and fall on the floor in a quivering heap because of Rogue Teeth.

Wisdom teeth: some wisdom:

Peeling back the gum is normal procedure, you won't even notice it. I had mine done under general and was terrified they'd be levering them out with pliers and scar the roof of my mouth, so I asked the guy before he did it "look, what are you going to do?". Basically, they peel down the gum, drill the tooth out from the bottom up, splitting it if necessary. It's all clean and the gum rolls back no probs.

I had all four out, they weren't overcomplicated but weren't exactly perfect given they needed out, and in a week I'd recovered from the anaesthetic and was onto every solid known to man. Hell, I was eating normally pretty much from day one, just slightly slower than normal, and the swelling really isn't so bad. You just go slowly - and realise that your wisdoms are so far back you never really know them.

The new thing is IV; it's a bit stronger than local, but you stay conscious and alert, just not aware of pain. I was offered that. I chose local. And a mouth full of bloody rags afterwards.

Oh, and watching Power Rangers Time Force on general is so much fun. Trust me.

It's not a wisdom tooth, it's one I had crowned about ten years ago. It will probably show when I smile (it's the second fat one from the front after all the thin ones) and I will be A GAP-TOOTHED HAG: but I am very pleased to know that I won't notice the peeling back of my gum, at least: thanks paleface. Though they won't be going in from the bottom of the tooth, in this case, because they want to look at the tip and see whether the infection is at the root, in which case they take that out, fill it, & rebuild the crown, or whether there's a fracture halfway up, in which case they dig the tooth out.

Of my living flesh.

Oh no, that's horrible, Anna. What shits.

I've just got home from Germany, but unfortunately my suitcase didn't follow me and it's languishing somewhere in Brussels. It should get sent to me 'tomorrow. Afternoon. Maybe'. Well, thanks.

Oh no! Lost luggage - always a bad thing! It better reach you OK but if it doesn't please tell me! The wrath of the aerial may be unleashed on your behalf... I'm just raring for the yelling!

Why do you want pictures of Justin _pin?

Ariadne
22:52 / 14.03.03
Excellent, the wrath of Anna's aerial may be just the thing to get them to find my case.
At least I'm at home, not sitting in a hotel room wondering how many days I can get by with the same clothes.
