Also even if that's true, water does not 'belong' to anyone. You may think it does because it's in 'your' country, but dude, the water you once owned flowed away a long time ago. Trying to own water is like trying to own the sky!
Olulabelle, I don't believe anyone said we actually "own" the water. I don't think that is the point. However, I doubt that your argument would be welcome on Parliment Hill. If it falls on our country, I bet they will want to keep it - Great Lakes, included - polluted or otherwise.
You see, when it comes to responsiblity, someone has to own it.
I get your point, though, and I think the Indigenous People of Canada get it too. However, I think the point that Hawthorn was making is quite the same as yours.
