Alex's Grandma

Well, quite, Alex; I believe that's a variant of last night's joke.

My burning ears ...

I'd guess Pete was worried about the speech on account of a combination of his quasi-mystical thinking about his win tomorrow, and the fact that Nikki's been telling him for the past week that the prize is in the bag, unless anyone stitches him up. The latter more than the former seems like the reason for his paranoia, but Aisleyne's speech must have seemed like a bad 'sign.'

Richard on the other hand just seemed bored and pissed off. He could have gone easier on Aisleyne this evening, I suppose, but he's not going to win, and knows it, and must be feeling fairly tired out by all the drama by now. Not to drag in any stupid stereotypes, hopefully, but Richard's plight increasingly recalls Dan's at the end of series five - he's just knackered, really, by the impossible role of older-gay-male-house-mediator.

I have voted for him though.

I don't know that Richard is bored/pissed off generally. I don't think that's why he was so direct with Aisleyne, anyway. I think he's been irritated by the fact that she's appeared grumpy and can't-be-arsed-anymore at various points in the past few days (particularly during tasks) and he saw her odd giggly turn at the lectern as another example of that. That's what the "you ought to be going out on a high" stuff was about.

Pete: It's my final night. I'm not gonna be her puppy.

Well, it'd be nice to see you try that at least once before you leave.

Not all of them, no. I guess it's possible that Jenny or Pete or Glyn collapsed in giggles, hid behind the lectern and suddenly came over unable to talk sincerely in 'public'.

You make a valid point, though I'd say it's not entirely outwith the realms of possibility that Glyn is rubbish at public speaking.

It's also a good point that the speeches probably weren't much longer than we were shown. I had this idea in my head that they were several minutes apiece, but to be honest I have no idea why I thought this.

I think they were meant to be three minutes long. Much of Aisleyne's was spent talking about how difficult it was talking. It came across as weirdly out of character for her too, and I can see why the more insecure/paranoid Housemates interpreted it as some sort of resistance to the idea of 'supporting' Pete. I don't know that it was, particularly, but it was certainly a bit pathetic.

I think Alex is probably correct in saying it's Pete's woolly quasi-mystical bollockery that's causing him to view this as a Bad Omen. Problem is, that quasi-mystical bollockery comes across, at times, as entitlement - as if Pete reckons it's merely in the natural order of things that he should win.

Oh, no argument from me on that point.

And just for the record, I don't actually dislike Richard- I was just a little disappointed by my perception of last night's events (which clearly differs somewhat from yours, G). Had it been Nikki I wouldn't have batted an eyelid, because it's what I'd have expected. In much the same way as I'm finding Pete increasingly unbearable, even though he's being far less of a dick than, say, well, Nikki again, purely because I'd have hoped he was better than that.

i don't know what to make of ais's speech. i thought pete was perhaps being unreasonable for the first time i'd seen in the house.

Never mind, Pete. If it all goes apeshit on Friday, it'll all be fine by Sunday, on the third day.

From the D*ily St*r:

Her family and supporters say text and phone votes for her are failing to register – or are going to Pete instead.

while i'm sceptical of most everything this rag says, I had the same experience twice when I tried to text for Aisleyne. I was charged a quid, yet Big Brother couldn't recognise the word "Aisleyne".

Probably not helped by the fact that she has a harder name to spell than does Pete. I've not had any problems as yet myself; I've been texting equal numbers of votes to Ais and Dickie.

Yes i thought that might be it. still suspicious that her voted are going to Pete, IF that's what is happening...

Grace/endemol connection?

... according to Popbitch:

This is probably old but found out this weekend from someone at Endemol.....Grace was given such an easy ride during her eviction interview becasue of a call from Mariella Frostrup (Grace's godmother) to Davina personally asking her to go easy as there were terrible family situations brewing that Grace would be upset by and she worried she wouldn't cope if she was told off too. Grace's mum had begged Mariella to pull as many strings as she could....Also Grace wasn't on BBLB yesterday as she and Mikey were at their two day OK! interview and shoot. £55,000 each.

I can see that Ais votes might be 'spoilt' by misspelling, etc. but I don't understand how they could conceivably go to Pete...

Surely anyone who was sufficiently motivated to text for Aisleyne to win would do it more than once, and enter the word in their phone's dictionary.

One would imagine so, but hey ho.

Has anyone got a "special BB night" prepared. On one of my other boards, the girls are listing everything they've stocked up on and arranged around themselves for the night's viewing, from Veuve Clicot and Baileys to face masks and manicure kits. (This is not some chicklitty exaggeration from my own mind: the lists also include "Ben & Jerry's Low Fat chocolate fudge Brownie yoghurt.")

Christ I really showed my lack of class there with that spelling of "Cliquot".

I think it's when you have this tight group of friends who are kind of bitchy about any "outsiders". Veuve Cliquot would be a group of old friends I suppose.

Ganesh
18:14 / 18.08.06
Or even Clicquot.

We're sprawled upon leather pouffes (just for a change) with Mme LaBombe, supping fine wines (the champagne is on ice) and lining our stomachs with, erm, pizza.

I think Aisleyne's problem here is that she couldn't find 3 minutes of interesting information on Pete and didn't realise that the best way to resolve this problem was to talk... really........ slowly.

I'm lying on the sofa watching from my usual comfortable position, phone in one hand redialling for Ashaleeeen! and being pestered by Messenger contacts who think it's a good time to chat.

Slobbing out in front of the box with a beer if that counts as special?

If Pete wins, we riot.

I think Aisleyne's problem here is that she couldn't find 3 minutes of interesting information on Pete

That would've done. She didn't have to be interesting, just coherent.

*gasp*

Where's Sezer????

Someone tell Richard his label's sticking out.

Jenneeeee! Unsurprisingly.

She looks quite relieved to be out, which fits with her being a grumpy little grumpster this last week. Bad shorts, though.

Alright h1ppychick?

Jennie seems to walk very badly in heels. She has awful posture, and bad eyeliner also.

h1ppychick
18:37 / 18.08.06
All right all?

When I think of what I used to wear when I was 18, Jennie's not doing badly, I think.

Well, yes indeed. I was being deliberately hurhur there.

Aisleyne's getting a lot of boos tonight, which is a bit depressing. Loooads of fucking Saint Pete footage...
