Ganesh, do you think Shahbaz has any sort of true personality disorder, or do you just think that he's a bit of a cunt?

Well, the two are hardly mutually exclusive. Categorical classification of personality is pretty controversial; the various personality disorder diagnoses are approximations, with most people combining traits of all of them.

Having said all of which he's definitely Cluster B-heavy (scroll down a bit). None of this necessarily diminishes the likelihood that he's had a shitty life, has rock-bottom self-esteem and now has an entrenched tendency to self-sabotage at every turn.

I think he's also a bit of a cunt.

Reaction to Big Brother's Big Brain by myself and one other member of the manor: "that's not Ganesh. Where's Ganesh?"

I think he's stretching quite a bit on Lisa. And the forming-storming-norming-performing is becoming something of a BB cliche.

Yes, the assumption that people should be comfortable hugging people that they've known for ten seconds is a bit much.

I was interested by this article, especially when they played back the video of Nikki with Dawn in the Diary Room sobbing for bottled water, and she said something like that she felt obscene or something to that effect.

Perhaps there's something more to her petulant outbursts than just being a spoiled child.

The psychotherapist was good with the 'family' stuff: I'd got Dawn as reluctant mother figure, but not Lea. Lea's dependence on costumes and labels ("I've got £3000 worth of clothes in that case") was worth highlighting. Not sure I liked her formulation of Richard being "outgayed" by Shahbaz, though, which would seem to reduce the concept of 'gay' to shrieking, pawing overfamiliarity.

According to Nikki's somewhat melodramatic friend (who joined Nikki in a "mutual struggle against anorexia" eight years back), the problem with the drinking water was that "lots of anorexics have trouble with tap water, there's the assumption that it contains impurities and might make them fatter".

Call me Mr CynicalTrousers, but I haven't seen a great deal of classically eating-disordered behaviour from Nikki since she entered the House - certainly nothing in the same league as avoiding tap water - and I rather suspect her friend is projecting her own interpretation onto events there. And possibly enjoying her own moment of press attention just a tad.

Ahh, cross-posted. While there could be underlying anorexic anxieties, H1ppychick, I do think Nikki's friend is rather cranking up the drrrama for her own ends. In my own experience, individuals with eating disorders don't do terribly well when they join together in a "mutual struggle" against anorexia. It can all get somewhat competitive.

I think Pete will refuse to join in with the (somewhat deserved) ostracizing of Shahbaz. Pete was bullied in the past and the result is that he will blanket refuse to bully somebody else, regardless of how deserved it might be.

Unrelated, I know somebody who went to the same school as Imogen. Apparently all of the teachers adored her (enjoyed her, even) and she rarely put a foot out of place. Will try to get something more remotely interesting out of this person soon.

I don't think it's simply a case of people having been bullied in the past and refusing to take part in bullying - because Shahbaz himself has been bullying those he feels he can bully. I suspect it's more about Pete tending to be on the margins of groups himself - ki-i-ind of accepted but not hugely engaged with (I've yet to see Pete having an in-depth conversation with anyone, as opposed to sitting there mutely while others talk) - and that degree of non-engagement (objectification, even) meaning he's never been fixed on by Shahbaz as a target. He also seems happy enough to sit quietly with Shahbaz, indulging his "poor me" histrionics, and if Shahbaz appreciates anything, it's a silent audience.

A repose from the mayhem of the current thread...

Snapshot from a phone conversation Thursday night:

ME: "Hello my short little friend..."
FRIEND: "Are you at home?
ME: "Yes?"
FRIEND: " Put Channel Four on now!"
ME: "OK"
FRIEND: "See the car pulling up?"
ME: "Yes..."
FRIEND: "See who's getting out?"
ME: "A tall black woman..."
FRIEND: "That's Dawn!!"
ME: "Dawn?"
FRIEND : "DAWN!!!"
ME: "The Dawn?"
FRIEND: "Yes!!!"
ME: "Fucking hell!"

So I find myself in the wierd space that I know a housemate in the BB house. She was head of the college I completed my City & Guild Journalism course at.

So what inside information can I impart to the more loyal BB watchers (because you're more than fan's who simply sit and watch aren't you). Lots really. She's a self-interested, self-imposing, self-aggenderising BITCH. And those are her plus points.

And as for Pete my housemate pointed out while he's in the house the usual Friday night cry of "Big Brother house this is Davina. You are live on Channel 4. Please try not to swear" is going to be a tad redundant.

We now return you to the mayhem...

Self-aggrandising, maybe - or did you mean to suggest something to do with gender, there?

Still on the Knowing A Housemate tip, Richard's ex-flatmate is posting on Digital Spy:

Yeah..-Richard used to be my flatmate a coupla years ago. i evicted him, although i can't for the life of me remember why...I agree with the above and more, although one thing i do remember is that he was *incredibly* anal..Alphabeticised CD's and dust sheets over everything in his room..drove me up the wall...And yeah..-he did used to go Trade, but he was the only one in there *not* on drugs because "Oh, -i can get hight on just the music alone" ..-ike, Okay mate, good for you....whatever.

-We used to work at planet hollywood back then, fiddling the customers and stealing drinks and it's interesting to note he's *still* a waiter...

and the rather more kiss 'n' tell(ish)

lol @ richard having 'standards' .....-i'd like to remind him of a bloke he once brought home from trade who left his underwear in the bathroom that showed, erm....let's just say, a poor grasp of 'hygene'....

Apparently Big Dick has a Gaydar profile from wayyy back, but 'Max The Max' is being coy about doing quite that much bean-spilling. I'm very tempted to go a-searchin' for it myself...

The Big Brother house is so stressful that Shabhaz claims it's turning him straight.

Pulled off Digital Spy.

Appearing fed up, Shahbaz suggested that the group had lost their "sense of humour"

Once again Shahbaz reminds me of a Barbelith troll-attack.

I thought that too EC. Especially his excuses for his behaviour . . . you just don't understand me . . . I'm too much for you to take . . . why is everyone picking on me . . . you [expletive] . . . etc.

He is the BB troll.

As flyboy said above, I think Pete has shown himself to be a good guy by not joining in the schoolground bullying, and trying to help Shahbaz from further alienating himself.

It's only a matter of time until he starts telling everyone him being annoying/offensive is them misunderstanding him, and it's his job as a Pooka/Coyote to stir things up.

I'm hoping that Lisa doesn't end up taking a swing at Shahbaz. I quite like her.

Swishy, I'll be interested to see whether your take on Dawn actually plays out.
How well did you know her? I ask because it's pretty easy - but often unfair - to describe people who have authority over you as arseholes.

"Bitch" probably wasn't the word to use on Barbelith

She does sound uncannily like him.

Pete has shown himself to be a good guy by not joining in the schoolground bullying

Nah, I think he's just very sensitised to those cast out from the group. That is admirable in many ways but it's unsustainable in the case of someone like Shahbaz and doing him no favours. What Shabba needs is firm boundary setting and clear direction about acceptable behaviours. He's not a small boy, he's a man of 37. He has to take responsibility for himself or he'll have pissed his whole life away in this self destructive cycle.

I have to hand it to Endemol. They've managed to pick a whole bunch of people out of whom the guy with Tourette's is the least offensive.

Early days yet, I know, but I like Pete so far. Sezer would probably be okay if the misognyny were removed- but I'm not sure he'd survive the process.

Lisa's extended impression of Shahbaz (especially when she was just parading up and down in the background- whoever was choosing the cameras for the feeds at that point had a wicked sense of staging) was the best thing I've ever seen on telly with the possible exception of Nikki's "who fancies who" monologue, which I've just seen again and which really does bear up to repeated viewings. Difference being I was laughing AT Nikki...

Not sure I liked her formulation of Richard being "outgayed" by Shahbaz, though, which would seem to reduce the concept of 'gay' to shrieking, pawing overfamiliarity.

I'm pretty sure that she was focusing very much on Richard's response rather than the concept of 'gay' but she did express herself particularly badly. The thing that I don't like is the way they popularise on the psychology shows, there's no need to friendly-friendly it up in the way they do. It's like all of the people have been instructed that they must smile or over-emphasise at all times. I've never actually met a psych of any kind who did that (of the ologists, otherapists, oanalysts, iatrists, iciatric nurses).

Oh, I'm aware she wasn't intentionally generalising, but using 'gay' as a verb in that way was ill-advised in the extreme.

And Shahbaz is out. I wonder whether that'll put tonight's show (and assumed Shahbaz-orientated fights) in a different light.

19:09 / 23.05.06
Wow. He's been removed. Well, he's succeeded in establishing himself as hated outsider in double-quick time - despite the best attempts of several Housemates to shift him from his determined self-destruction. He was continuing to up the ante; I suspect Endemol got cold feet about the speed at which his acting-out was escalating.

"One simple question, Grace: was there mint and basil in the shopping?" ---> supposed 'apology' ---> way of admitting, apropos of nothing, that he'd wiped Lisa's list and substituted his own ---> drama plus "I'm so ashamed - I have to leave" ---> (please stop me).

Is Davina going to even attempt an interview, I wonder? She certainly won't do so live, I wouldn't have thought...

No Shabba-you-moron because Big Brother removed 14 items from your shopping.

Yeah, I missed that description. Probably looking at the hair and those weird eyes.
