I felt really sorry for Glyn when he was confronting Shahbaz. The guy has an obviously sketchy grasp of English and instead of letting him compose and express himself Shahbaz talked over him and was far too quick to jump to accusations of homophobia. Has the man never heard of personal space? And the fact that some people don't like being touched by people they don't really know.
I'm sure there are things to be said about Glyn growing up in a (presumably) straight environment and not being too familiar with face-to-face contact with gay people, rather thin his hating them (he's probably quite similar to last year's Anthony in that regard). You can't shake out 20-odd years worth of social conditioning overnight. It doesn't make him a bad person if he's uncomfortable when a gay guy displays affection towards him, does it? I mean, remembering the circles I grew up in, most straight 19-year-old guys would consider that ther worst nightmare (not that I'm saying this position is a very healthy one to adopt, I'm just trying to see where Glyn is coming from).
Next time Shahbaz touches him, he should thump him on the arm, playground style - "How do you like being touched, Mr feely?" (on a side note, one of the women should do this to Sezer or the Vernon-a-like too) |
