what do you think accounts for Nikki's mindless acceptance of Jayne, despite attacking aisleyne and jennie with no justification?

Jub

I was wondering this too, and I think it's Jayne's attention to Nikki. She panders to her attention needs and Nikki rewards her by being her friend. Sad really.

That's certainly a part of the story, but do you remember Nikki threw her arms around Jayne the second she saw her and started blathering on about Jayne being a 'real person' before she knew a thing about her?

maybe she sensed that Jayne was not going to go after Pete - though God knows how.

They seem to have a fair amount in common though - both 'maaaad!!' both individuals who 'don't give a fuck what other people think!' both almost pathologically insecure - why, they could almost be sisters, and there's enough of a (physical) age gap for neither to be a threat to the other.

Both hate Aisleyne, and Jayne's not gonna pretend otherwise. That's what I'm getting from it, anyway- Nikki's fine letting Jayne get the Ais-hating going for her.

www.thisisbigbrother.com has an online poll showing votes cast for Nikki at 38%, with Susie at 20% and Aisleyne at 15%, which is encouraging.

Jayne went fishing for Allies on her first or second day in the main house with her 'Hands up who didn't like Aislyne' line of questions. Nikki was the only one as i remember that took the bait- and ended up as Jaynes buddy as a result.

Yes - all reasons that make sense. I was genuinely moved by Emma's upset and having to turf out Jonathan, and couldn't believe that tantrum-girl and crude oil were laughing at her distress. tantrum-girl's desire to find a house mother/father up to now has been tempered by the fear that a relationship with such a person might bring her too far in line with reality. I guess with crude oil there's no threat of that.

Idiot-dar. Forsooth, I like this term, and anticipate the justification of its usage on many a future occasion.

Yes, these nicknames get a little confusing. "crude oil"? Got i, but it took me a while. Likewise with the Vern stuff upthread a loooong way.

I’m not sure I really get ‘crude oil’. I understand from the context that it’s Jayne, but why Crude Oil? Because she’s crude and, err, oily? Or is it a complicated Popeye reference, or even (god help me) another Invisibles thing?

Peach Pie
15:49 / 14.07.06

she's crude. that's about as far as it goes.

This is one of those “blink” type character assessments: after seeing only a few minutes (if that) of Jayne not long after she went into the main house: she reminds me of “the Freak” character from Prisoner Cell Block H (but without so much power), both in looks and actions. I have not been able to watch much BB over the last week so have not been able to verify my initial assumption, am I being too unfair in my assessment?

Oh fucking hairy tits. How can Nicki be out before Imogen?

It's so pathetic. At least Nicki actually had a personality.

I'd have preferred Susie to go, but considering the three heavy votees this week I'm glad to settle for a Nikki departure.

Hahahahaha. Then why does it feel so good?

Oh, Dickiepaws.

I wouldn't 'Yay' about it at all.

Nicki created some interesting scenes in that house, and however much you may hate Jane, with Nicki there she was exposing herself by talking. By removin g Nicki you possibly remove Jane's source of confidence and so you end up not knowing what she's thinking.

Has Ganesh gone on holiday now? I miss him. Can we make him come back?

It's quite sad the way their reaction is that something must have gone wrong; that this must be a trick, or reversal; that there has to be a third secret house, or a jet to Australia waiting outside. They're convincing themselves they misheard Davina, that the rules have been altered, that they've been lied to, that no means yes; anything, but Nikki can't have been evicted.

Unless they're just telling her that, to keep her head from melting.

Even without Jayne, there are plenty of reasons to "yay!" about it. Nikki's tendency to go on and on about Aisleyne's hostility to her - cue Aisleyne wandering in, saying "Awright Nik?" in a concerned voice, THE BIG BULLY - had long outstayed its welcome. As had everything else about the absurd child.

That was pretty amazing telly, that exit. She had a real Sally Field moment there, didn't she? It must be pretty surreal though, as I think she was expecting mega-boos and then to come out to a reaction like that. Dear God, is she Jade mk II? Another career in the sinuey continuity of the celeb-rags? Oooh, I can hardly wait...

20:11 / 14.07.06
Yeah, what Flyboy said. Nikki may have a 'personality' but it's a deeply egocentric, spoiled, selfish and paranoid one.

And I don't think that Jayne is likely to lapse into silence, somehow.

what happened there? i didn't do that?

She's candid as hell but her mind wanders like a butterfly. I have a horrible feeling that she will indeed be the new Jade.

I'm ever so glad that physical insults are not below us.

Re: Aisleyne and the Barbelove, it appears that she is fast becoming One Who Can Do No Wrong. Is there nothing she does that is slightly suspect or is she the one true original nicer than nice housemate?

Regrettable Juvenilia
20:33 / 14.07.06
I almost liked her again when reminded of some of her best bits.

Basically I blame Jayne for all this - in the sense that Nikki's troubled relationship with Aisleyne would probably have played out a little differently had Mrs David Brent not been there to make it a little bit nastier, a little bit more distorted, a little bit more relentless and tedious.

Be interesting to see what happens next.

Hippychick, you seem to want to make a fairly obvious point with your bolding of specific letters in names.

I have noticed that you know how to spell their names (well done, you are very clever) and I have noted that I got it wrong. Fear no more.

It's not that Aisleyne can do no wrong it's just that she has done no wrong (except for, perhaps, cheating at spin the bottle). It was nice to see Nikki realised eventually (after the very distressing eviction announcement, that was horrible) that people did like her but she needs to calm it down a bit.

No reason to watch this without Nikki, is there? Or at least, the attraction of the show becomes seriously diminished. The only positive thing to come from Nikki's eviction is the possibility that housemates who may have felt dwarfed or overshadowed by the continuing Nikki/Aisleyne/Pete/Jayne drrama, might become a lot more interesting. I'm hoping that Michael will become a more interesting housemate now, but what's likely to happen is that he'll become a sounding board for Jayne's bullshit.

So, does anyone know the percentage that Nikki received?

Regrettable Juvenilia
20:43 / 14.07.06
Aisleyne has done wrong, I'm sure, but the point is that the actual instances of this are dwarfed by the endless claims of bullying, intimidation, falseness, thinking she's all that, etc. that have been directed her way.

I also like Richard, Pete (when he's not being an invertebrate) and Jennie; and to a lesser extent Glynn, and even Immikee now and again...

Olulabelle - if your remark above was addressed at me, I called Nikki 'monkeyface' because she indeed has a face like a monkey. Small, big-eyed, furrowed of brow. It was actually a term of endearment in the context of my post - I found myself warming to her in her exit interview.

Also: re the spelling thing, this was initially Ganesh's vibe but I do find it a bit lazy when you are watching a show which has the participants' names printed up, and everyone in the thread and on the various linked forums is using the correct spelling, that you don't then bother to do so yourself. Unless you're doing some clever riff or variant, obv.
