I'm one of the new people. It took me 4 months to get in the site, having applied in October 2005 and being accepted February 2006. I don't think that it is so bad that I had to wait that long, especially considering I self-nominated myself. I agree however that there is more risk to the community from accepting new people like me who came to the board from their own discovery of barbelith, rather than those who are known and trusted by at least medium-term existing members. There should be some sort of fast track progress for them.
Now i'm too new here to really know the history of this board, but I do know that it is rare compared to the state of messageboards across the internet, at least as far as its maturity is concerned. I even feel that it is a fragile kind of beauty, and new members, while important as energy infusers, are also a potential source of problems. Having people wait for a while to get in isn't such a bad idea, because those who appreciate the beauty and fragility of this site will have more respect for their position when they do gain entry, I know that I do. |
